HTC EVO 4G :: Rooted Using Unrevoked
Jun 6, 2010
I'm trying to remove some of the Sprint Apps preinstalled, I was able to find them using Astro File Manager in /system/app/ but when I went to delete the file, it said "Error deleting files". What can I do?

I rooted with Unrevoked 3.2 but I have not flashed a ROM yet. My biggest concerns are that I will loose everything. If I flash the new OTA ROM, do I loose all my settings, like my gmail accounts, checkbook balances, game scores etc? I did (at least I think I did) and Nandoid backup using ROM Manager, confirmed the filename that I chose was on the SD card. Does that mean that if I boot into recovery mode, I should see the file? And can I boot into recovery to verify that it's there and then back out? Sorry for the noobie questions, searching through the forums (which I did) can be very challenging.

I installed unrEVOked3. It says it was successful. I downloaded ROM manager, busybox, and Titanium Backup. Busybox says my phone is rooted. I have a USCC american HTC Desire. I tried to Install Defrost 5.7 when I try to install in it looks like all is well, then it goes to a white screen with green HTC logo. I then have to do a battery pull and restore to get back to my phone being usable. I am getting a list of saved backups because I have been trying repeatedly.

I put the bakedsnack1.9.evo.zip on the sd card, wiped data/factor rst and wiped cache partition as the notes say. I then went ahead and tried to install the rom off the sd card and i'm getting "can't open /sdcard/bakedsnack1.9.evo.zip bad) installation aborted.
Did I do something wrong when I rooted?
It may be the rom, I just tried to unzip and I'm getting an error. I'm going to redownload and open it on the pc to ensure it opens then send to sd card and try again.
Update. just redownloaded it from bakedsnack.com and that one also will not open.. Odd

2 If I do the leaked OTA 2.2 with radio update and the radio file is different with VZW2.2 will phone brick??
Just curious, should I unroot?? any thought son VZW OTA?My DI rocks, I dropped the iphone and feel I have stepped up to a whole new world.

I wasn't even planning on doing it last night; just wanted to get the drivers/programs/etc all in line and wait for the official release. But once I actually sat down at the computer to get everything together I realized there wasn't much of anything needed for this other than the unrEVOked program (beta from the IRC channel) and the appropriate drivers.Any suggestions on "must have" apps to use on my rooted, otherwise stock, Incredible?I'm currently playing with WiFi Tethering and LEDs Hack. Other than that, I'd love to hear what you'd recommend!

I havent seen a thread on this yet, and im sure this will help those of you wanting to flash a custom ROM (even a rooted version of Froyo!)after rooting your phone with unrevoked 3.1
Step ONE:
The first thing to do is to download and install Titanium Backup from the market, and backup all of your apps and user data.Once this is done, shut your phone off.
STEP TWO:
Press and hold your volume up button. then press and release your power key while continuing to hold your volume up button.
Your phone will boot into a white background menu that has green text at the top, followed by FASTBOOT highlighted in red, followed by text in orange, then 4 options. You can release your volume up key once this menu is up.

I'm rooted the 2GB pny way and have the unrevoked recovery system on my phone. When verizon decides to let the ota/froyo/maintrelease (or whatever it's being called) as reported on bgr and here, what exactly do I need to do to get this as I should over the OTA?I am assuming I need to unroot (but why?) and restore the Recovery System, as well as remove any root programs from the phone.

Just rooted last nite to be able to tether. Working great so far, and it got me curious about the FPS fix. How does one flash the fix? Is it noticable and worth the hassle?

I've looked around and it seems that everything is about the current OTA. I have a friend whose running OTA version 3.26.651.6 will Unrevoked 3.21 still work for rooting it? When I rooted (a while ago now) I ran Unrevoked and then Unrevoked Forever, if I want to root his phone + nand unlock, do we still have to run Unrevoked Forever? I read in several threads that you don't need to run it anymore with the update of 3.21, but I'd just like to make sure!

I'm getting some CONFLICTING information so I'm fresh-posting this simple question:I was wondering if I can root my EVO using unrEVOked with my computer which is a 15" Aluminum Powerbook G4 with a PowerPC (NON-Intel) processor running OS 10.4.11? Before I start something that I do NOT want to continue with, I just wanna see if my computer hardware and OS is up to the task.

I did the OTA update, then used Unrevoked, and seem to have gotten root. But when I went to flash a ROM with ROM Manager, I selected "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", confirmed my phone model, and then it told me an error occurred while flashing the recovery, without any more details.Anyone know an alternate method for getting another ROM on the Evo, post-OTA with Unrevoked?

Last night I rooted my phone using the unrevoked method and I installed fresh 0.1. I had an issue last night where my phone wouldn't see the SD card Has this issue been resolved with the newer versions of the fresh rom? How do I get this update applied so that I don't have any issues with my phone seeing my sd card? I've only had enough time to get 0.1 installed and I would like to have 0.3 up and running by tonight.

i have just gotten my HTC EVO 4G 5 gays ago and I AM LOVING IT !! But, as i was searching all over the internet, the word "Rooting" came up a lot. So i figured , "hey ! why not try it?!" I wanna try and use UnrEVOked but I know nothing about Rooting and such.
1) What will rooting do to my phone?
2) Will it void my warranty?
3) Is it only temporary?
4) Will it help me save battery life?
5) What are other features of rooting?

Back on 2.1 I broke down and rooted and used unrevoked 3 and unrevoked forever, then I went back to unrooted for the Froyo update. I left my S-OFF. I guess the question is can I just apply the new unrevoked for Froyo?
Its a stupid noob question, but its one that I'm not entirely clear on from reading the excellent posts and help guides.

I'm not sure how to do some of these things, I'm new to the rooting community, but here's my story:
I want to get the two OTA updates on my phone, but everytime I try to, it downloads it, restarts to install and as it is installing (after it shut down) it stops and I get the green man with a exclamation point...
then it locks up. I don't know what to do.

I don't know a ton about Android but I rooted my wife's EVO using Unrevoked (I think the 2nd rev of Unrevoked) earlier this year. I have been having her ignore the upgrade notice that keeps popping up until now - I'd like to upgrade her to 2.2 so we can have video chat w/ Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the update and went to install and got the Android guy w/ the Exclamation Mark triangle thing. I've read thru a bunch of posts and it seems like most people recommend either unrooting by various methods then doing OTA update, or flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM.
Most of these posts are a couple months old from when the OTA came out and I was just wondering if there was a better way to go about doing this now that I am not finding. Bascially I want to: Upgrade from rooted 2.1 to rooted, standard Sprint 2.2 without losing any data/apps. Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to do this or possibly a video walkthrough?

I just ran through the Unrevoked process, which ended in the software telling me, "This was a triumph". I am, however, unconvinced.I can not boot into any other recovery than the stock HTC recovery and therefore can not perform a Nand Back up or flash Unrevoked Forever.I'm running a newer Evo with 2.2, it has hboot 2.02 and is showing S-ON. Is this the problem?
