View 17 RepliesWhat possible reason could there be for you to code your apps so that they switch on in the background when the phone is turned on and use up precious battery life?
Or, why would you code your apps to stay on after I, the user, have hit the back button because I no longer want your app to run?
I mean, REALLY! Yes, I own up to being a newbie Android user, and what I don't know could fill the Library of Congress. Still, this is common sense we're talking about here. I've done some industrial app development and Enter/Exit, On/Off are basic pieces of logic in the main loop of an program in any language.
The only reason that we phone users need task killer apps is because you developers insist on creating apps that don't know when the f**k to turn themselves off.
And, it seems to me like you, the app developers, are one of the main reason why these phones have such crappy battery life. I mean, my Samsung Instinct, as bad as it was, got 18 to 24 hours of life off of one charge. With the Hero, I'm lucky if I can get 10 hours, and that's even with configuring my email download to only three times per day!
This is not hard, people. You code the app to stay off until, I, the user, manually turn it on. AND, you also code it to turn off when I, the user, hit the back button.
Yes, I understand that there are certain apps that it is advantageous to keep running in the background. So, fine, make it so those keep running. BUT, there is no possible reason for apps like Flashlight, or BBC News, or Camera, or SprintTV to have to run all the time in the background!
I am so tempted to just trash the lot of you. If I did, maybe I might not have as much functionality, but my teenager would be able to reach me late in the day because my phone battery would still have juice.
My HTC Desire no longer shuts down, I sometimes need to shut down just to help keep the phone working at its best but when I power off the spinning circle just keeps spinning saying shutting down. I have left it for a couple of hours before and its still stuck there, never used to have this problem with my phone when I first got it.I am running an Orange branded phone with Android 2.1. I really don't like this Orange 2.1, its pants and alot slower than a stock 2.1 or the new 2.2.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I realized after getting a calendar reminder, the lock screen just stays on until you dismiss it. So then I checked by just turning the EVO without a reminder to see if the lock screen would shut down and the backlight just stays on that way as well.. Can others test this out and see if there screen shuts off or is there a separate setting for the lock screen?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason whenever I now use the keyboard on my LG 4X HD the phone says aloud the key I'm pressing. I don't even know what it's called, perhaps "keypress vocals"? Can't find where to switch it off or even turn down the volume, which is really loud, very annoying as it does it even when the phone is on mute. Searched the settings, no luck. I'm going to be travelling a lot on planes and trains in the next few weeks and I really don't want people listening to what I type. I think on some forum somewhere mentioned that it could be a Driving Mode setting, but I can't find that anywhere either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've found that the stock clock/timer app alarm on my LG Eclipse running ICS 4.0.4 won't shut off if I leave the main app screen to go do something else on the phone while it ticks away in the background. The only way to get the alarm to stop seems to be to reboot the phone. If I leave the timer ticking in the foreground it shuts off normallyt when the acknowledge "ok" is pressed. I tried contacting LG about it, but haven't heard anything back.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat is the lowest % my battery will go on the EVO before the phone dies and is unable to power on until charged? I've ran it down to 20% but that isn't even close i'm hoping. My old palm pre would be very close to death and cut-out anywhere under 16%. I'd just like to know in-case I get into an emergency battery saving situation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I plug my phone into the charger the screen comes on and never turns off. Is this happening to anyone else ? It isn't a huge deal because it is on the charger but kind of annoying.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy desire takes ages to shut down, I'm talking like a couple of hours or more!! the only other person I know with one is having the same problem. I was watching a couple of threads on this subject with various solutions but nothing definative. I'm on Orange, not many apps installed really. This is the only problem i have with my desire, the phone is awesmoe otherwise. I would love it even more if I could turn it off when i wanted to tho
View 22 Replies View RelatedMy DroidX has been rooted for a couple of days now and I'm loving that new features that I can utilize. However, I didn't check my phone for a couple of hours and when I took it out to send a text I realized that my phone was shut off. Has anybody encountered this same issue? I didn't even have to hold my power button to start it back up. I simply pressed it like I was waking it up and it showed the power up symbol.Update: When starting up, it did not show the Motorola symbol but skipped ahead to the "Droid" sign.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post, so please be gentle. My Desire takes more than 5 minutes to shut down when I turn it off at night. Is this normal, or is it likely that a rogue app is preventing a speedy shut down?
View 49 Replies View RelatedThis is a new issue I am having; I've had my Eris since December and had no problems with it. My phone is no longer going to sleep itself. I set the 'Screen Time Out' all the way down to 15 seconds but if I don't hit the end button to manually put it to sleep, it would never sleep. This is really frustrating because since I was used to not having to do that, I'll put it in my pocket without hitting the end button and end up clicking a lot of stuff with my bottom. What is this problem? I've not downloaded any applications as of the last month and I use a task killer every time I put the phone down.
View 4 Replies View Relatedok before you all say "why shut it down, its better using wi-fi" i know that and i have my reasons. moving on, i have tried several times now to turn off the wi-fi on my droid, both thru the power control widget and also by going thru settings-wireless-wi-fi turn off wi-fi. but for some reason it keeps coming back on. is the droid set to automatically turn on the wife when ever there is one avail even if i dont want it too? is there some hidden setting i am not seeing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI think my Hero is on it's way out. It has decided to randomly shut itself off when it feels like it. I almost made my son late for school today because the alarm didn't go off because apparently the phone was off. It's done this a few times now. So my dilemma is... I'm due for an upgrade on Monday, thing is I don't care for any of the phones out right now. I don't really want to waste and upgrade on a phone I don't really want. I can get a new Hero with insurance for $100 but how many can you get a year cuz I don't really want to use it if it's my last one? I could stick it out or switch back to my berry until something good comes out but I think we would've heard about it by now.
View 14 Replies View RelatedDoes the virtual keyboard on the Moment have bigger keys than the HTC Hero? I ask this because looking at the display for the moment it appears to be wider than that of the Hero. Also, does the screen shut off when not in use? I have heard people say this as well as their face hits stuff on the screen when they are talking on it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to shut off the sound when the Moment goes in and out of roaming?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter 10 years of Blackberry I made the switch to a Droid X six days ago.
Twice in the last 6 days my phone has shut down and become completely unresponsive.
The first time was the first time I powered it off. When I attempted to power it on the phone would only show me the Motorola logo and do nothing else.
A battery pull fixed it.
The second time it went dead was as I unhooked it from my computer USB...it's a PC and I "dismounted" the phone manually first...but then...nothing....
A battery pull fixed it again.
So. That's a long way of asking: is two 'dead' experiences in 6 days leading to two battery pulls normal? Should I take it back while I can?
I have gotten all haptic touch set to off so it no longer vibrates when texting, emailing or touch the 4 lit up buttons on the bottom BUT it still vibrates when I dial a phone number or when I call a contact from my phone book, I hit the number and it vibrates once as it rings
