HTC Incredible :: Any Way To Shut Off Feedback On Phone Dialer Pad
May 2, 2010
I have gotten all haptic touch set to off so it no longer vibrates when texting, emailing or touch the 4 lit up buttons on the bottom BUT it still vibrates when I dial a phone number or when I call a contact from my phone book, I hit the number and it vibrates once as it rings

Seems to me you can't remove the haptic feedback on the phone dialer.I would hate to see that this is true, this is the best phone dialer I've had on an android device.

I am wondering if I have a software problem. I have tried everything to shut off the haptic feedback when dialing a number to make a call. Haptic is shut off for the 4 main buttons at the bottom of the screen and it is off for text typing, but it will just not shut off for dialing phone numbers. Am I missing something here?

I've put together an update that will remove the haptic feedback on the Eris when you press the dialer keys (it does still make the sounds though). It works great for me but I was wondering if someone else could test and let me know how it works for them. All the credit for the method goes to JsChiSurf at xda-developers who figured out how to do this for the Hero. I just decompiled the HtcDialer apk from the latest Eris 2.1 leak (Leak 4?) and applied JsChiSurf's method to it (adding a return-void to the vibration function). Just load the zip from your recovery image. This does not delete any of your data. However, please, please do a nandroid backup before you use this. This is my first attempt at creating this sort of thing. Comments and criticism welcome.

Is anyone else experiencing lag when using the phone dialer or when answering a phone call? When I go through my contacts and pick someone I want to call, I touch their name, and it takes a good 5-7 secs before it starts calling that person.Same thing when I receive a call. When my phone rings and I have an incoming call, when I swipe down, it'll take another 5-7 seconds after the swipe (since I guess this action lets you answer the call directly) before I am connected to that person.

Is it possible to theme the htc dialer to look more vanilla? i'd like to try a vanilla rom, but the htc dialer just annoys me with the way it runs up against the white notification bar (with the rounded edges that go into black corners).

How is everyone's haptic feedback? Mine seems to be less powerful than it should. It doesnt feel like when the phone vibrates on a call or message. It almost feels less powerful, and almost like its dying. Anyone else experiencing this have any ideas?

I recently noticed an issue with my Droid Incredible that no one has been able to fix. Whenever I press the "t" on my virtual keyboard, I am constantly getting the "r" or "y". Rarely am I getting the "t". It seems like sometimes I press the "t" and I don't get any haptic feedback. If I continuously press any other letter, I get that letter. But with the "t", it is mostly "r" and "y".
I went to the Verizon store and they noticed the problem, but said only that I should do a factory reset which I did after organizing apps I have downloaded, with no resolution. And the first thing out of their mouth was if you get a replacement, it won't be a new one. Being with Verizon for over 8 years, I understand that since I've had bad Blackberries in the past, but I have also found that the so called refurbished ones have worked flawlessly. I went ahead and had them send one out to me.

Got my Incredible yesterday and I have noticed a problem that is really bugging me. When I call people, at random my ear piece seems to give a noisy/scratchy feedback. The other party does not hear it, but I hear it through the ear piece. It is not when they speak, but only when I do, as if the microphone is producing feedback that comes through the speaker.
I have also noticed that I found myself asking what people say a lot, as if though they are muffled or using the speaker phone when they are, in fact, not.
I called Verizon and they are going to have me swap it out at the store tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this issue. Hopefully it is just a rare incident.
I feel Verizon has it out for me since they also ported my number when my phone was still with FedEx in Memphis. Either that, or I just have really bad luck.

While my sister was using the "Stool Scanner" app, it froze "scanning" her finger. I was unable to exit or force close the app, so I hit the power button and turned off the phone.
When the phone powered back up, I noticed that haptic feedback (the vibration you get when you touch the screen) was no longer working. It was still checked in Settings, so I tried un-checking, exiting settings, and then re-checking it. I even tried removing the battery. As a last resort, I factory-reset the phone under privacy settings. Still no haptic feedback...
Oddly enough, the row of capacitive buttons beneath the screen still vibrate. Also, when typing, the virtual keyboard still vibrates. But nothing else will vibrate, including any part of the Home screen or within any other app (ie: clicking a link in the browser).

I have the Haptic Feedback option unchecked in the phone's settings yet I still get haptic feedback when using other apps such as Handcent and Facebook. I did not see an option for haptic feedback in the Handcent options. What do I need to do to turn it off?

The other day when typing my haptic feedback kinda went clunk. Now I get no feedback whenever I move from one screen to another or select an icon on the home screen. I am sure that I got feedback when I pressed an icon before, I just want to make sure that it is supposed to do that.
So, can anyone confirm that they get the haptic feedback when they press an icon on the home screen?
I still get feedback from the softkeys, but it does not seem as strong, so I think by haptic motor has a problem.

Is there a way to shut down the screen while videotaping? If I lock the screen, it shuts down the video. When the phone is in a stable position, there is no need to use the screen as a view finder and run down the battery more.

What possible reason could there be for you to code your apps so that they switch on in the background when the phone is turned on and use up precious battery life?
Or, why would you code your apps to stay on after I, the user, have hit the back button because I no longer want your app to run?
I mean, REALLY! Yes, I own up to being a newbie Android user, and what I don't know could fill the Library of Congress. Still, this is common sense we're talking about here. I've done some industrial app development and Enter/Exit, On/Off are basic pieces of logic in the main loop of an program in any language.
The only reason that we phone users need task killer apps is because you developers insist on creating apps that don't know when the f**k to turn themselves off.
And, it seems to me like you, the app developers, are one of the main reason why these phones have such crappy battery life. I mean, my Samsung Instinct, as bad as it was, got 18 to 24 hours of life off of one charge. With the Hero, I'm lucky if I can get 10 hours, and that's even with configuring my email download to only three times per day!
This is not hard, people. You code the app to stay off until, I, the user, manually turn it on. AND, you also code it to turn off when I, the user, hit the back button.
Yes, I understand that there are certain apps that it is advantageous to keep running in the background. So, fine, make it so those keep running. BUT, there is no possible reason for apps like Flashlight, or BBC News, or Camera, or SprintTV to have to run all the time in the background!
I am so tempted to just trash the lot of you. If I did, maybe I might not have as much functionality, but my teenager would be able to reach me late in the day because my phone battery would still have juice.

This should go in the battery section perhaps but I'm in a hurry and wanna easily find it when I get home from work. My battery life is awful. I send txt messages and thats about it and my battery drains in a hurry. On days that I 'play' with the phone and use the hell out of it, it drains in fast forward. I read a couple pages of the battery life post and tips and tricks section and probably need to shut down or limit programs running on my phone. I have the power control widget on screen and most of the time have everything off. If surfing the web or whatever I turn wi-fi on, then off after use. If I do nothing with the phone for awhile then switch to task manager it will pull up a list of a dozen or so things running..thought this thing was supposed to kill these apps. Do I just go into each app or widget and find some options to limit everything? What about juice defender (is that right?)? Does it help? Seems like my phone is on the charger more often than not. I'm going to pick up a new battery but would like to learn how max battery life before I do.

Everything seemed perfect after I downloaded the update until the moment I turned on the stock music app. I use System Panel, and when I went to end the app it continued to play. I shut my phone down and re-booted only to find the problem still existed. I downloaded Advanced Task Killer with no luck. After a little bit of anguish over having to re-customize my phone I decided to do a Factory Data Reset. Still no luck! I spoke with a tech over at VZW and both reps I spoke with were completely baffled. They said since it's an HTC built app that they would have to fix the issue and to give it a couple of days.

This is a problem I've noticed lately that is just killing my battery life. My Incredible never dims on its own. If I press the power button the screen will shut off but lets say I get a text and then I hit the power button, the screen comes on. I respond to the text and then hit home and put my phone down on the desk. The screen will stay on indefinitely. Not charging, completely unplugged the screen will just stay on. Has anyone run accross this and does anyone have any ideas on how to get it to time out again?

I just installed the 2.2 update on my Incredible. Don't know if it's me but it seems a tad bit slower than the last OS. I'm also noticing on my Advance Task Killer that I have Skype, Amazon MP3, Slacker, Kik, and other applications open most of the time without even touching the apps. Also pressing KILL all applications does not do the job! I gotta hold the application and press force stop myself.
Also earlier today I noticed I got incoming and missed calls from people in my phonebook, but when checking my call logs, it doesnt show their name it just the number and thats it.
So if anyone else is experiencing this please or has a solution to this please reply back.

I am not sure how this is happening, however, my customer ringtone frequently changes to some other short stock ringtone. I discovered that if I shut the Inc off and turn it back on, my custom ringtone returns.
Anybody know what is causing this and how it can be stopped?
