What are some good apps that I would need to be rooted for to use.
Preferebly something that would let me delete factory installed apps
Or do i still need to flash a custom rom to do that?

I successfully installed Unrevoked3. It was a breeze on a MAC.The main reason I did this install was to run Wireless Tether for Root Users. This is my first Android based device. What else will having Unrevoked3 installed allow me to do?

I have recently purchased an unlocked HTC Desire. As you may or may not know, here in Australia the only carrier of the Desire is Telstra. However I use 3 mobile so that's the reason I purchased an unlocked device.
My problem is that my phone has about a dozen or more apps which are installed by Telstra and uninstallable. Most of them are 100% useless because I'm not even on their network and I'd like them out of my applications list.
I've had a read around and I saw something about being able to remove them by deleting the file and then uninstalling them using a command prompt program.
Would anyone please be able to give me detailed instructions on how to do this because I'm not sure how to find the system/apps folder and I'm also not sure on how to get the command prompt thing to work.
Has anyone noticed that when you install an application manually vs a downloaded one from the market it doesn't update when a newer version comes out?

And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?

Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
anyone know any good school apps, college is starting up again tomorrow and i want something that can store my schedule, track assignments, contact info, due dates and stuff. Iv been looking but have not been able to find one that can do this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf this has already been posted i looked at the search windows to see if there where some related ones and didn't find any. i was wounding if there was any good SMS/MMS apps out there that don't make your phone laggy and is there a way to make it so like Chomp or Handcent comes up in Advanced Task Killer instead of stock messaging. in other words can i make it so my stock messaging app donesnt even start up and my Market app is there. also is there a good keyboard app that is better than the stock one and again doesn't make my phone laggy.

Surprise surprise, it doesn't appear that I have this option on ANY of the 15 or so apps I've downloaded.I've read that developers need to unlock this option when they create their app - I guess most of the apps available today just don't support it? This has been happening recently with mine and my wifes EVOs. I will go to open WHERE and it says that it is not installed even though it is. When I go to the Market it shows as installed, but in order to resolve the issue I have to uninstall and reinstall the app. The same happens with Qik on my wifes phone. After the reinstall it works fine for a few days and then reverts back to the original issue.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am looking at a good way to hide apps from the list. I want the apps to be able to run (like Email) and do the sync, but not to display the icons in the list. I have seen that ICS comes with a "Disable" function for system apps, but it doesn't work for me because it also prevents the app from running.
I also want a way to launch the apps myself (through a hidden menu or command) at will.
I have tried things like Application Protection, which allows you to password protect the apps you want. However, since the icons are still there, it is still tempting for my kind to click and ask for the password.
I have looked all over and still can't find it. If it is in here somewhere, please forgive me. I did the unrevoked3 for my EVO. Now what? I am getting the triangle with the exclamation point on the status bar. How to I get the hotspot to work? Is there an app I have to open that was installed already?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working on an app that will be shipped on some phones. I have been thinking about how to update them once a new version is ready. How that would work for a pre-installed app? As an initial thought I think I could pop up a message letting the user know there is a new version ready, but if I could avoid unnecessary request to the server it would be better. If a google engineer comes across this please give me a hint as you do this for Google Maps.
