View 49 RepliesI don't know a ton about Android but I rooted my wife's EVO using Unrevoked (I think the 2nd rev of Unrevoked) earlier this year. I have been having her ignore the upgrade notice that keeps popping up until now - I'd like to upgrade her to 2.2 so we can have video chat w/ Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the update and went to install and got the Android guy w/ the Exclamation Mark triangle thing. I've read thru a bunch of posts and it seems like most people recommend either unrooting by various methods then doing OTA update, or flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM.
Most of these posts are a couple months old from when the OTA came out and I was just wondering if there was a better way to go about doing this now that I am not finding. Bascially I want to: Upgrade from rooted 2.1 to rooted, standard Sprint 2.2 without losing any data/apps. Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to do this or possibly a video walkthrough?
If you've lost your root due to upgrading to 2.2, you're most likely in luck.
Check out this link, [ROOT] unrEVOked 3.2: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading - xda-developers, then head over to ##unrevokedtest at freenode.net to get in on the testing.
For those wanting to root, you may want to wait for unRevoked 3.2. It is supposed to be 1-click root and requires no downgrading.

I just spent 2 hours rooting on Friday. Hope this helps folks avoid the hassle.
I installed unrEVOked3. It says it was successful. I downloaded ROM manager, busybox, and Titanium Backup. Busybox says my phone is rooted. I have a USCC american HTC Desire. I tried to Install Defrost 5.7 when I try to install in it looks like all is well, then it goes to a white screen with green HTC logo. I then have to do a battery pull and restore to get back to my phone being usable. I am getting a list of saved backups because I have been trying repeatedly.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI put the bakedsnack1.9.evo.zip on the sd card, wiped data/factor rst and wiped cache partition as the notes say. I then went ahead and tried to install the rom off the sd card and i'm getting "can't open /sdcard/bakedsnack1.9.evo.zip bad) installation aborted.
Did I do something wrong when I rooted?
It may be the rom, I just tried to unzip and I'm getting an error. I'm going to redownload and open it on the pc to ensure it opens then send to sd card and try again.
Update. just redownloaded it from bakedsnack.com and that one also will not open.. Odd
I rooted with unrevoked but idk how the heck to install the roms i want? and can you even install roms with unrevoked?? plus can i use rom manager? i used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just unrooted my evo because i was having issues with Fresh 1.0.1, i was unable to update to Fresh 3.0. I decided to unroot (i think i unrooted right) and once i did that i get the Froyo update pop up asking to update my software. When i click on ok to download the update it than ask to install, when i click install my Evo reboots and looks like its going to unpack but then i get an exclamation mark with the android robot. Anyone know how to fix this or know whats wrong?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to figure out how to upgrade to Froyo, if this is better than 2.1, however I have a question: I just picked up an EVO, which the seller said he rooted, and flashed to work on Metro PCS as well. I asked him what method did he use for rooting, he said he did it manually, the long method which allows for complete access, I'm a noob so not sure which method this would be. In anycase the phone attempted to do a "system update" as seen here
View 5 Replies View RelatedRight now I have a buggy (reboots suddenly and keeps on rebooting again n again) A60 credits to my brother who has deleted some system files. Phone is rooted using universalandroot (superuser being detected as virus by avast). I have already installed busy box (was required during rooting).
Now I want to upgrade to froyo. Saw that microfire give problem with bluetooth and has some bugs. So was looking for other ROM and found frozen-yogurt but that too is useless as there is no link on his third posts. Also when I connect my A 60 to my laptop I get this missing driver:

what I need to do at this point to get 2.2 installed properly? Will the OTA update work, or am I hosed? (Status 7) Installation Aborted.
A buddy of mine just got the Vibrant and he was asking me if there is a way to do a manual install of Froyo rather than wait for the update. Could somebody direct me to step by step instructions if they are available? Would he have to root? I searched for a bit but didn't find anything specifically for the Vibrant.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am a new member here, just joined a few days ago. I've had my HTC Incredible (Verizon) for about 2-3 weeks and so far I love it. I've been reading these forums every day, multiple times a day ever since I joined here a few days ago, but haven't posted anything yet. I remember the first day I joined here I saw a thread that was discussing a custom Froyo ROM that you could install on your phone that would NOT root your phone. However, I also saw one that allowed free hotspot tethering, that didn't accrue any charges from Verizon Wireless, unless I am mistaken, but I beleive I did read that someone where on here. I'm not looking for someone to walk me through how to install, or root the phone or anything like that, I understand all the inns and outs of doing that.....I provide PC technical support for a living, working on my B.S. degree in Computer Science, so I'm pretty fluent in the technical aspects of working the phone and rooting and all of that, I was just trying to have someone point me in the right direction to the Foryo update.zip/rom that you could install on your phone that would do the following two options:1. I would prefer the version that doesn't root the phone, but instead just installs, if I have to end up rooting the phone that's fine, I would just prefer not to only because of possibly voiding the warranty, not because I'm afraid of screwing it up haha, I feel perfectly comfortable doing it if I must.2. I read one of these allowed free hotspot tethering and also got rid of Verizon's bloatware as well, I don't know if all of these are found all in one custom rom, but if they are that would be great if you could point me in the direction where I can download it at.
