Nov 30, 2010I have an i9000M (Bell) Galaxy S that is unlocked. I have had different versions of Froyo on the phone in the last couple of months, Currently, I have JPO and it is working fine.
My first question is,
Is there a generic (Non Bell, Orange, Att, etc.) version of Android that works on any android phone? Also, what about a version that works on any brand of phone, sort of like WIndows on a PC. I know there are a sh*t load of different phones out there, but I was wondering if a generic version would work.

Can I flash a European version of Froyo onto my Canadian phone?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Warning - Kies To Install The Froyo Update
Oct 24, 2010I tried getting Kies to install the Froyo update on my Galaxy S (i live in the UK) using the registry hack that has been widely published. It didn't work and I ended up witha slightly newer version of 2.1 than I already had. Phone seemed to work fine, until I put my SIM card back in. It immediately restarted itself as soon as I tried to use 3G.
I went through all the settings, everything seemed to be the same as it was before the flash, but still it restarted everytime I connected to the 3G network.
Sooo, I decided to try and restore it to the previous firmware version again by changing the KIES regisrty values. Everything seemed to go well, phone downloaded the correct version, installed it fine etc and then KIES notified me that the firmware upgrade was succesful and the phone will now reboot.
Only it didnt.
It turned off and hasn't turned back on since
It doesn't get recognised when plugged into USB, it doesn't even show a charging logo when plugged into the mains. It does get VERY warm when I leave the battery in for 10 minutes or so though.
I've tried all the three button combos posted around, I've taken the battery out and in and out and in etc etc... nothing. It's a shiny 9mm thick brick now

I want to just custom recovery restore to the deodexed ROM here (Droid X 2.2 Froyo Deodexed and Ready For Themes) but cannot because I get the following error every time I try to restore a backup from custom recovery: "e:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 device or resource busy.I think I found out that it is because this Koush recovery is the original 2.1 version, so I need the 2.2 one.Two things:-Where do I get this 2.2 newer version? I was going to use some sort of film protector, such as Zagg invisible shield and a Flip Case. But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector.What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.

Dec 27, 2013I have a rooted Galaxy S3 running stock 4.1.2. My husband recently upgraded his unrooted S3 to 4.3 and I'm super jealous of his stock email app. I tried copying the apk from his phone to mine, but it didn't work.
A few days ago I successfully updated the email app on my phone to the version from 4.4, and I thought installing 4.3 would be as simple as renaming the old files and copying the new apks. But the 4.3 version isn't working. I tried with and without the corresponding odex files, renaming the apk from SecEmail_J.apk to email.apk, but nothing I've tried works. When I click on the email apk in Root Explorer, I tried to install, but it says problem parsing. I copied SecEmail_J.apk, SecEmail_J.odex, SecExchange.apk, and SecExchange.odex, rebooted, no stock email app. Then I tried just the two apks, rebooted, no stock email.

It's running smooth and I've not had any problems My question is, what is the difference between my existing version and the 'offical' Froyo 2.2 that will be released soon? Would I be able to update my firmware to the newer version since I'm already on 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6)?

Sep 25, 2010I recently upgraded to the htc desire after I couldn't bare with samsungs (lack of) support any longer. I am still running drakaz' latest nightly on it but as I am trying to sell I believe it would be a wise thing to bring it back to factory conditions, software wise. Would anyone here be able to point me in the right direction for the Croatian ROM of the galaxy, or the latest update for it? I never ever done anything else but rooting and custom roms so I completely lost touch on which version was actually running on it.

I went into a shop the other day to try out the Galaxy and had a quick look at Aldiko which comes pre-installed on it. I have the latest version but the one on the Galaxy appears to be an old/different version and did not seem as good as the version I. So my question is, can these pre-installed apps be completely removed (or upgraded from the market to the latest versions) or am I stuck with the pre-installed version forever (unless I root it).

Sep 26, 2010There is a new version of kies available 1.5.3.10093.31. I couldn't get it from the update within kies, so quite by accident I clicked on samsung widgets and it said I needed the latest version of kies, click ok to download. Am downloading right now and it's taking ages so haven't had a chance to see if its any better but will post back when I have had a chance to see. It has just finished installing and as soon as kies started it came up with a fatal error and closed down, so I think that just about says it all. Will report back later when I have had sometime to try and sort it out.

Oct 29, 2010I'm trying to install the leaked official 2.2 froyo update (I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low.exe) that I picked up from Cognition over on XDA but when I run the Odin one click downloader it hangs at <ID:0/006> Added!!

<ID:0/006> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
I removed the battery and restarted and flashed the factory ATT ROM and that worked fine. Why this is just hanging up on install. Seems everyone else who's downloaded it had no trouble. I've tried the file direct from design gears and also the mirror on multiupload.

Sep 13, 2010Not sure how long it's been up, but Samsung has released a new version of the task manager. Download it from Samsung apps (from your phone). Changes include a new tab called RAM. You can now clear up your RAM according to two levels. I recommend that you only use Level 1 since level 2 kills some essential apps (like your widgets), meaning that they have to be relaunched again, consuming power and CPU cycles.
