HTC EVO 4G :: Battery Weaker Since Upgrading To 2.2
Aug 7, 2010
I updated my phone 2 days ago and like all the changes. Everything is good except my battery. Before the upgrade I was fine with my battery. Everything was good. Since I upgraded to 2.2 my battery has been horrible. Just horrible. I thought this was supposed to improve battery life. Is this just a glitch or something? Someone told me that some people were having problems and there should be a change within 3 or 4 days to fix the problem. Is this correct or is my phone the only one that got worse battery life since the upgrade?

I installed LauncherPro and loooove it. However, I noticed my battery life is even more pathetic than it was on sense. Since unplugging at 8:30, I'm down to 80% already. I even disabled live backgrounds because I thought that might be the culprit. Has anyone else found that battery performance with LauncherPro is weaker than Sense? Or am I just being sensitive?

I just traded in my Captivate earlier today, and maybe its my imagination, but I think my signal strength is weaker than the last phone. Maybe It just needs to warm up, or maybe I've elevated the last phone in my memory, but I seem to be getting less bars, even in open areas.

I just got the Captivate this weekend and I'm noticing at my house i am getting poor signal strength. It runs anywhere from around -100 to no service what so ever. I have been on AT&T for years and have had no trouble with my blackberry that gets around -75 to -80.
I bought the nexus one and had the same issue with that phone so i sent it back thinking it was a hardware issue.

I upgraded from a Moto Droid due to its dropping call constantly. I have a Dinc now but my Bluetooth skips a lot when I have the phone in my pocket while running. I am using Moto S305 headphones.
There were never any problems with the Moto Droid but I cannot use the same headphones without skipping unless I hold the Dinc in my hand.

I run into problems when creating the AVD. It says do this: Open a command-line (e.g.,"Command Prompt" application on Windows, or "Terminal" on Mac/Linux) and navigate to your SDK package's tools/ directory. First, you need to select a Deployment Target. To view available targets, execute: android list targets
From the terminal, I navigate into the directory of the SDK on a Mac and I call the command listed above: myMac:Mobile jaredfurgal$ cd android-sdk-mac_x86-1.5_r2 myMac:android-sdk-mac_x86-1.5_r2 jaredfurgal$ cd tools myMac:tools jaredfurgal$ android list targets -bash: android: command not found..........

I'm actually more disappointed than I am happy with the update. This is just a minor vent, ignore if you don't want to read. I'm coming from Windows Mobile. Having apps running or not, was a simple thing. With android, why does it have to be an annoyance? I understand Android handles programs in the background well esp Froyo. But why does it have to be a pain, esp for the OCD types, when you close apps you don't want running, they just open themselves again? You can go as far as going into the services, and shutting down that service, not only the app, and have that service restart itself. With 2.1, using Advanced Task Killer, the apps were closed and never really opened again. Unless I lost service or something, which for some reason triggers the internet related apps to open again.
Now I did a hard reset earlier hoping to fix some of the problems I'm having. It didn't really help at all. One problem I'm having is, my Evo NEVER sleeps. Currently synchronized at 0:52:xx Up/Awake times, restarted earlier hoping for change. 2.1, I never had this issue. And after hard resetting, I'd think it would be normal as it is the bare OS itself. Didn't work. Downloaded System Panel lite, forced closed some apps, also from settings-applications. Still same results. 2.1, I had a very good standby time when I wasn't using it.............

I don't know a ton about Android but I rooted my wife's EVO using Unrevoked (I think the 2nd rev of Unrevoked) earlier this year. I have been having her ignore the upgrade notice that keeps popping up until now - I'd like to upgrade her to 2.2 so we can have video chat w/ Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the update and went to install and got the Android guy w/ the Exclamation Mark triangle thing. I've read thru a bunch of posts and it seems like most people recommend either unrooting by various methods then doing OTA update, or flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM.
Most of these posts are a couple months old from when the OTA came out and I was just wondering if there was a better way to go about doing this now that I am not finding. Bascially I want to: Upgrade from rooted 2.1 to rooted, standard Sprint 2.2 without losing any data/apps. Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to do this or possibly a video walkthrough?

I currently have BB 0.9 and i want to upgrade to NexBeast 1.0. So my understanding is that NexBeast is based off of BB1.0. Does that mean I can upgrade to nexbeast 1.0 from BB 0.9? How is this different from installing a new rom? I have also never tried to upgrade from one build to the next, how would i go about doing this?

I'm trying to upgrade from VillainROM 5.4 to 10 but not having too much joy. Do I follow the same procedure as I did when going from the stock Orange/HTC ROM to 5.4 or is it a bit more in-depth? I am unable to run the Amon RA recovery image software as it says "backup failed: could not run command". Titanium Backup isn't doing anything apart from giving me an "SU request" notice (even when I've tried to d/l Busybox).

I tried the 2.2 root process. short and sweet is (oh an i am pretty new) downgrade 2.2 to 2.1.. bunch of command line stuff.. install usb drivers, open program to flash and it reboots the phone, then more command line stuff, then installs custom 2.2 and you are now rooted...
I got to where i install the custom usb drivers and open the reflash program.. all it does is go to the bootloader and sit there. i said screw it and was going to just reinstall 2.2 and be done with the ATTEMPT of rooting until a 1 click type came out.. problems is, now i cant even install 2.2... sits at the bootloader screen..
Called Sprint and they tried to help me do a factory reset by going to the phone app and typing ##87# or something. when i hit reset it was supposed to show a screen thats wiping and reinstalling or something. nothing happen.
Stuck at that frikin bootloader screen again
So here is what i think happened and i need help fixing it.. i installed a newer bootloader or older one or something and the new 2.2 is having a hard time getting past it or i just completely screwed it all up.
I am currently on 2.1 and all is working fine but i cant upgrade or anything.
What are my options and how do i get this back to 2.2? would love to try and root it and be done. or just plug it into the pc and reinstall everything back to factory but i am coming from the iPhone where that is possible and i guess you cant on HTC. fine with me.

With 2.1 update fairly imminent, I thought I'd take the opportunity to upgrade my SD card to a 4gb or even 8gb. I have had my Hero since November and love it, but I noticed recently I have just about filled my 2gb card with data.So ... what is the process involved? Is it simply a case of connecting to my PC, creating a folder and dragging the lot >>> swapping the card in the phone >> then dragging it all back onto the new card?

I've been thinking about upgrading to the X seeing as I epic failed finding the Missing phone in Boston after sitting right next to the guy who was giving it away before they gave out the final clue .
My upgrade date isn't until next year, if i call CS is there anychance they will allow me to upgrade at the $199 price or am I SOL? and if they do and i order it over the phone can I have them just add the cost to my next bill or will i have to pay over the phone? I've actually never upgraded my phone before, the first real cellphone i bought on my own was the iPhone 3G and didn't upgrade to the 3GS because it was crap and ended up switching to Verizon and the Droid when it was released...

So I was wondering if I'll be able to upgrade my phone if I'm out of my home state. I'm in Vegas right now for vacation and I'm going to call the Verizon store in the morning if they have any in stock. I just want to be prepared first.

Updated to stock 2.2 using the OTA update just now. Everything seems OK, with one exception - the screen timeout no longer works. Doesn't matter what I set it to, the screen just doesn't turn off.
I do have KeepScreen installed, so I shut off its service just in case it was interfering with something somehow. It makes no difference - the screen just doesn't time out.

I have a couple of questions for any Rom developers/experts on here regarding things that can be done with Android ROM's.
1) Is a parser Rom upgrade possible? So is it possible to change a small part of a ROM and then allow users to upgrade their ROM easily?
So can I change a part of a ROM and then a customer can upgrade to the newer ROM without having to be technically savvy and needing to root and flash their devices?
2) Can a change be burnt into a ROM so that when a user selects "Restore Factory Settings" that it doesn't remove the upgrade to the ROM?
3) So essentially I want to know if its possible (with a device manufacturers permission) to add to a ROM some small additional parts and then give this new ROM version as a firmware upgrade to the device so that a user only has to "upgrade" and not go through the process of rooting and flashing there device?

A few weeks ago, I received a notification saying I could upgrade to 2.2 but that I should backup my phone first. I did not upgrade at that time because I didn't know (and still don't know) how to backup my stuff. I cleared the notification and have not seen it since. 1. Ideally, I would like to backup my applications, music, and mail accounts so that I can easily reinstall them after upgrading to 2.2. What is the best way to do that, keeping in mind that I am a relative beginner at this stuff? 2. Since I cleared the notification, I do not see a way to upgrade to 2.2. I looked through "Settings" and a few other places, but haven't had any luck. What would I have to do to upgrade to 2.2? To be clear, what I'm trying to do is upgrade to 2.2 and not have to rebuild my list of applications, mail setup, etc.

I have to do a hard reset (wipe) to install the new ROM. When Motorola comes out with their update, will we need to wipe the phones then too? Or perhaps that's what is taking so long for them to get the update out?
