I just did the update to my EVO with the latest firmware. I no longer can connect to 4G consistly and if I do it lasts for 5 minutes. This started immediately after the upgrade.

I am in chicago and have a evo, now all of a sudden past couple days my 4g is trash and my 3g is jus in and out. also im not receiving calls. i also read on another thread that people are having issues with htc sense friend stream. by the way i am rooted so if i need to update .
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just traded in my Captivate earlier today, and maybe its my imagination, but I think my signal strength is weaker than the last phone. Maybe It just needs to warm up, or maybe I've elevated the last phone in my memory, but I seem to be getting less bars, even in open areas.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got the Captivate this weekend and I'm noticing at my house i am getting poor signal strength. It runs anywhere from around -100 to no service what so ever. I have been on AT&T for years and have had no trouble with my blackberry that gets around -75 to -80.
I bought the nexus one and had the same issue with that phone so i sent it back thinking it was a hardware issue.
I upgraded from a Moto Droid due to its dropping call constantly. I have a Dinc now but my Bluetooth skips a lot when I have the phone in my pocket while running. I am using Moto S305 headphones.
There were never any problems with the Moto Droid but I cannot use the same headphones without skipping unless I hold the Dinc in my hand.
I am not sure if anyone else has noticed this, I have searched around a bit so sorry if this has been covered before but this is my second Droid X to do this. When I lock the screen, my signal strength goes from 3-4 bars down to 1 bar after a few minutes. When I quickly tap the home button, but do NOT unlock the screen I can see that there is only 1 bar, and even sometimes the 3G icon is gone, (i.e. no data is transmitting, but I am getting a cell signal). Once I unlock the screen, I immediately will see the bars jump to either 3-4, depending on my location, and/or the 3G will pop back up (if it was missing in the first place).
My conclusions about this are that this is a reason why some devices crush the battery life and others don't. And, there is an issue with the phone hardware/software radio communications. If when the screen is locked it is losing signal and constantly going back and forth between 1x/3g/no data, that would explain why some people are having their battery dead within 5-6 hours. This phenomena is occurring on my second Droid X. I have yet to notify Motorola formally, other than through Verizon, but I wanted to see if anyone else out there is experiencing the same issues. Mind you, it is sometimes sporadic and others very consistent! There are times when the phone will be very hot in my pocket, and I suspect this is the reason. I know how to back out of applications and i can confirm that I do not have any running in the background that are sucking data.
Please keep in mind, I experience this with and without task killers and I live 5 minutes from Downtown Minneapolis where coverage is excellent. I also do not use Juice Defender or any other battery management program which may cut data when the screen is locked.
I am on my 3rd Evo and this one was perfect except that the 4g doesn't work, it simply keeps scanning. My previous two evos worked instantaneous. I was on the phone with a technician for an hour and still no luck. Anyone else experience this issue?
I've done everything from factory reset, updating profile, turning off phone, etc. Anyone in chicago 4g working fine?
I updated my phone 2 days ago and like all the changes. Everything is good except my battery. Before the upgrade I was fine with my battery. Everything was good. Since I upgraded to 2.2 my battery has been horrible. Just horrible. I thought this was supposed to improve battery life. Is this just a glitch or something? Someone told me that some people were having problems and there should be a change within 3 or 4 days to fix the problem. Is this correct or is my phone the only one that got worse battery life since the upgrade?

I want to reach out to others here before I take my Moment back to Best Buy to exchange it for another Moment.
My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
I installed LauncherPro and loooove it. However, I noticed my battery life is even more pathetic than it was on sense. Since unplugging at 8:30, I'm down to 80% already. I even disabled live backgrounds because I thought that might be the culprit. Has anyone else found that battery performance with LauncherPro is weaker than Sense? Or am I just being sensitive?

And when it does connect, it (a) either doesn't work at all (browser, speed test, nothing registers an internet connection) or (b) works for a minute, then (a) happens. I have an allegedly "good" 4g signal too. Tried soft reset and battery pulling, hoping that the problem will go away before resorting to a factory reset...
View 49 Replies View RelatedI can get a few minutes of 4G signal at my home per day, but when it drops out and 3G takes over, the signal will flatline and boot me offline. My 3G speeds are usually around 56-150Kbps or less, and my 4G speeds are around 2.5 Mbps What would cause this ? According to WiMax location sites online, my nearest 4G tower is .52 mile away. I would think that if I actually get 4G signal, then 3G would be constant. Turning off 4G doesn't help either. Is there some setting that I could have turned off that would cause this ? View 8 Replies View RelatedMy droid x signal pretty much always between -92dBm and -87dBm with 1-3 3g bars. My former droid eris would get -92dBm with 1 bar and also drain incredibly fast.
On the droid x, if I go into google maps, the circle of the cell tower appears and the place I live at is half way within the edge of the circle and the other half is outside of the circle. I always seem to be connected to this tower. Bad luck I guess that I'm on the outskirts of the circle.
Does anyone know how cell towers are distributed? Do they overlap sometimes?
I run pandora with the screen off for a half hour with the screen off and my battery is down to 70%. I have about 15% screen brightness and battery saving mode on.
yesterday, I was on meebo for an hour and 45 minutes and it was down to 60% from a full charge.
I'm writing an android application that collects cell signal strengths. I am having trouble getting the "current" cell signal strength, but I don't have any problem getting the "neighboring" cell signal strengths. To get the current cell signal strength, I created a PhoneStateListener and implemented the onSignalStrengthChanged callback. It works, but not very well. It seems like the signal strength hardly ever changes, and resolution jumps to only a few numbers. I would accept the answer that the resolution of the signal strength hardware is coarse, but when I use the TelephonyManager's getNeighboringCellInfo() method, it works much better. The signal strength readings from neighboring cells change frequently, and they have much better resolution.So, how can I get the current cell signal strength in the same way that I am getting the neighboring cell strengths? It seems odd to me that the functionality of the neighboring cells is better than the current cell. Am I missing something here?I would also like to directly call a method from the telephony manager to get current cell strength, as opposed to a listener, if possible. If anyone knows how, please let me know.

I am plan B and AVG security installed, both don't always work, I have pattern lock on the phone but even in pattern lock mode when i press and hold power button the phone gives me option to shutdown.
If someone steals my phone they will be able to shut it off without unlocking it since holding down power button still works. So is there a way to lock the power button from shutting off phone when the phone is in pattern unlock mode?

What I mean is that I need a phone lock for security reasons - however it is a pain to use it every time I turn the screen on. Is there a way to have it work only when you turn the phone on? Right now if yu don't have a phone/screen lock security set if someone steals your phone they take out the sim card and use the phone normally ... if you do have it, then you must use the password every time you want to use the phone (I hate it). I know the best thing is to have a secured access but I was just wandering if it was possible to do seomething different?

It seems she does not remember the lock pattern and we have not signed up yet for a gmail account. We have tried holding the left and center button then holding the right after a battery pull but when the progress bar comes up(grey) it goes a little over halfway then stops, it never finishes. I have done a search and came up with nothing else. She has 2.1 if that helps.

When i set my settings to GSM only i only get GPRS, WCDMA only i get H(signal) and when i set it at the GSM/WCDMA auto i also get the HSPA but can't get to 3G in anyone of them. Am I doing sth wrong or is it normal ? I got the 3G signal only once in my house but I can't seem to get the 3G signal again .

I've flashed the recovery using Allclockwork, backed up with Titanium (free version) and flashed my first ROM (Myn Warm twobytwo 11-05-2010 RLS3). Everything seems to work fine except 4G.
