Motorola Droid X :: Cannot Use While Charging
Sep 10, 2010
Can't the Droid X be used while charging? Mine is charging right now and it shows me the screen and allows to unlock but as soon I try to click on something or change the screen, it does nothing. On the top, it shows this message in a baloon Touch & hold an empty spot to add shortcuts or widgets So basically can't the X be used while charging?

I got home at 9 PM and my battery was at 50%. I've had it connected to my PC in Charge Only mode this whole time. It's 12:37 AM and it is still at 50% charging.Does this happen to anybody else?

Has anybody else experienced when charging the phone with a non-motorola charger (got it from ebay for like $5), you really can't operate the phone. I then used it with the charger that came with the phone and everything is fine.

Charges fine with wall charger. Just plugged it into computer and 'no charging'. It did go thru 'usb connect', did NOT load driver, and is 'not charging'?USB symbol at top of screen(Launcher Pro), screen stays on but no moving charger symbol.Am I actually charging?Does the battery icon just not move with USB connect with Launcher Pro?Will find out one way or the other EDIT: OK. I changed the 'USB connection' setting from "PC Mode" to "Charge Only" and the battery symbol now shows charging. That is weird.

I've got a Motorola Droid, and a cd player in my car that has a USB drive (which I usually use to plug in my thumbdrive to play MP3 music right off the thumb drive). Does anyone know if I can safely charge my Droid via the USB port in my car's stereo? It's an aftermarket stereo, Pioneer I belive it is. Will this harm either my phone or the stereo? Will it work? Or will it simply do nothing at all?

I came from the incredible which had a battery bug, where if you charged it while it was on you wouldn't get a full charge. Does the droid x have this problem. I seem to get better life if i charge it up off and over night then when i charge it at work with it on.

I have a Motorola Droid, the original.I got this phone back in May or June, my battery life has always been normal, i.e. 12+ hours on normal use throughout the day.I have a non-OEM charger, I have since I got the phone, and it has never affected the phone or the battery life. Recently in the past few weeks I've noticed that my phone's battery has been draining much more frequently, i'm now getting 8+ hours on normal use. Also I have noticed when I plug my phone in to the charger it says it's charging, but when I wake up it's only at 50-60% and I have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to go to full 100%. I've been trying to research why it is doing this, but i'm coming up with no answers.

Recently my car charger has stopped working. When you plug it in the phone says charging, and the red light on the adapter goes on when plugged in, but the battery percentage only decreases over time and the little light on the left that normally goes on does not. Has this happened to anyone before? I switched out the USB cable but it's still not charging. The next obvious idea is to buy a new charger but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas before I did. Also, if need be, anyone know of cheap places online to buy one?

How can there be no mention of the LED at all in the user guide?
All I know is:
1) There obviously is an LED
2) It can do multiple colors
3) There is NO LED on when charging (WTF?)

I had the original droid and now a droid X. Normally when charging either of them it takes like 2+ hours to fully charge from a low charge. Tonight I was at a friends house and I took out this new cord I bought at walmart that came with a universal usb car charger. My droid was on 20% and within 20-30 minutes it charged to full! I'm almost positive the computer was charging it via usb 2.0. Now I have usb 2.0 on my home computers but it always takes 2-3 hours to charge. I went home and went from a 70% charge to 100% in minutes via this "new" cord and not using the cord that came with the droid. Is it possible the cord with the droid only will charge at a certain rate and this new cord is charging much much faster or enabling usb 2.0 instead of 1.0 or 1.1? It would be great to not have to charge my droid all night long all the time. Also is there a way to know if your droid is charging via usb 1.0, 1.1, or 2.0 or even usb 3.0? Does this make a difference with charging times?

Just a question about charging this phone, do you guys see that it takes longer to charge this through the PC rather than the wall? Also about how long should it take for a full charge? Lastly is there harm to overcharging the battery?

I purchased some additional microUSB cables for use with my Droid at work and home so I'm not carrying one around all the time. I've found that the third party cables will not charge the Droid when plugged into the AC plug. The cable supplied by Motorola works fine, so I know it's not the AC plug. The cables do work as data connections when plugged into my laptop. Did I just buy crappy cables, or is there something special about the Moto cable?

Was there no addition of a battery charging Indicator in the OTA? I only get a solid red light when my battery is below 15%, blinking green for notifications and a solid blue light for missed calls.

Don't see this reported anywhere yet, but my LED doesn't show any battery charging status. Its a little bit annoying, since I don't know if the phone is charging or not until i turn it on. Any clue what's going on, or if there's a hack/setting to fix it?

Has anyone had problems with their Moto Droid overheating while navigating and charging. I noticed that it really was not charging so I went out to my battery app and it showed the temp being 135. I immediately unplugged the phone, shut it off and took the battery out to hold up to the AC vent. I cooled it to below 90 then plugged it back in and it started to charge to completion (100%) without navigation turned on. The problem is if it is not plugged in the screen blanks out without going into the settings to change it. So I removed SETCPU just in case that was the cause and I tried it on my way home from work(20min). When I got home it was at about 118 to 120. So my question is has anyone else experienced this navigating while charging heat thing? Should I be worried about that high of a temperature? Also would you happen to know at what temp your phone fails to charge anymore because of the heat?

Well so after a cross country meet I had my Droid 2 in my backpack and I was going to call my dad. It wouldn't turn on, so I thought that it was just because my battery died. When I got home the next day, I charged it for a while and then turned it on, but it still wouldn't charge. I'm thinking that it is dead, but the charger is messed up because I didn't see anything on the Droid that was blinking, so I think that means its not charging. Can someone please help me?

I am wondering what the charging port type is on the droid? I just noticed that my droid car mount will slide onto my motorcycle TomTom mount. The problem is I wired my bike with the standard USB charger. The droid uses some different type of usb connector. What do they call it? Do they make an adaptor to go from the Droid connector to the standard USB connector?

Ive noticed that my phone runs at 500-550mhz regardless of what profile i have setcpu set for charging. At first i thought it was usb debugging but when i have it on my wall or car charger it ramps up to 500-500mhz. I have tried setting my phone with setcpu to run 250/250/ when charging at it goes straight to 500-550mhz. I confirmed this with system panel as well. This happens in both bugless beast v.04 and kangerade 5.0.3. I even removed setcpu and notice the phone going to 500-550mhz. Is anyone having this same issue? I had my phone on the car charger with 70% with the scren on during a trip with no programs running. At the end of the trip the phone was at 40% and running hot. Not exactly what i want when its suppoe to be charging.

My Droid X wont charge when its turned off. When I plug it in the green charge light comes on then the phone boots up and shows its charging, but if you shut the phone off while its plugged in, it wont charge. The green light stays lit but no charge in the morning. So if you boot it up, it will charge when turned on. With my DINC it was best to charge the phone when it was turned off. This is all pluged in and charging from my computer. I am getting about 12 hours on a full charge, thats about 4 more hours than I was getting from my DINC.

Is it okay to partially charge the battery (i.e. to not completely charge to full)? I ask because I have the car dock which includes a power connection. Now, whenever I dock my phone, it'll get charged, but I'm hardly ever in my car long enough for the phone to get fully charged, so I end up taking the phone off the dock before a full charge. Is this okay for the battery?

I'd like to use my Moto Droid in my car using as few as cables as possible. Does anyone know if there is way to connect just the USB cable so I can charge the droid and get analog audio too? I would like to connect one cable to the droid when I get in my car and not mess with the 3.5 audio connector or an FM modulator etc. I was thinking there may be a cable that connects to the droids usb and can charge the droid and have a 3.5 auxiliary audio output to plug into my stereo.
I read a few of the threads on the forum but couldn't locate the answer and it doesnt seem any of the similar 3-1 or 2-1 products I find list the moto Droid as an approved device. (HTC Multifunction Audio Adapter for CellularSouth HTC Hero / HTC Hero / Sprint Hero / T-Mobile myTouch 3G, myTouch 3G Fender / Verizon HTC Droid Eris - Phandroid Store)
