HTC Droid Eris :: Wi-Fi Manager App?

Feb 3, 2010

What WiFi manager do you use, if any? When out and about, I leave my wifi off typically, since it just sucks the battery dry. But, it's useful to be able to identify and use hotspots. Unfortunately, EVERY wifi app I've downloaded causes a force close.

HTC Droid Eris :: Which File Manager App Do You Use?

Feb 1, 2010

Now that I've had the phone a month I can see that I need a file manager app. Went out to the market and did a search on File Manager and a ton of them came up. Did a search here on the Forum and didn't find a whole lot about what people are using... just that they use them. So I'm wondering which one is the best.

HTC Droid Eris :: File Manager And SD Card

Feb 4, 2010

Just downloaded a file manager (two, actually - deciding which one I like best), but in accessing my SD card, I notices a bunch of folders with nothing in them. I'm wondering if this is possibly due to when I switched from my Motorola Droid, they allowed me to take that 16 gb card and put it in my Eris since I had some downloads and photos on it (and, yes, I had to buy a replacement 16 gb card for the Droid, so now I have an extra 8 gig card just laying around doing nothing). So I was wondering, does anyone else have these files? Are they safe to delete? Should I delete them or just leave them? Here is the "tree." I've indented sub folders five spaces and put in parenthesis if the folder/subfolder contains any files/info.

SD
.bookmark_thumb1 (empty)
.footprints thumbnails (empty) voices (empty)
.voicerecorder voices (empty)
Backgrounds (bunch of files I've downloaded. keeping this one)
Cellebrite (not a "folder" - has a "page" icon and when I select it, it gives me a message "file type vcf not found")
DCIM
.thumbnails (empty)
100ANDRO (empty)
100MEDIA (pictures I've taken)
Camera (empty)
LOST.DIR (empty)
download (.pdf I downloaded when I had my Droid. It's an instruction sheet for my jawbone headset) google_maps_navigation cache (7 .wav files and two other files. tilecache_ImageTileSt - both start with this, but I can't see the rest of the extension. One is 6KB, the other 163KB.) - When I play the .wav files, they give me "directions." I think it's to a place when I went when I had my Droid, but I don't remember and I certainly don't remember saving the location.

debug (empty)
LOST.DIR (empty)
prettyweather-googlecode-com
clock (clock-default.zip)
(bunch of other folders skins I think I downloaded when I owned the Droid and downloaded the BeautifulWidgets clock that looks like the one on the Eris)
rosie_scroll (empty)
tmp (empty)

I have had Audio Manager installed for a while now and every few days the settings move on me. Specifically the system volume. I like keeping it at 2, and it will default back to 7.

Not a huge deal, but it's annoying. I'm wondering what is causing it to change. Maybe an app? Anyone with audio manager experience this?

HTC Droid Eris :: Task Killer In Astro File Manager

Apr 3, 2010

I just noticed that Astro has a built-in task killer. (Please no more about if we NEED a task killer) What I like about the killer on astro is that it lets me see how much memory and cpu a task or process is actually using before I kill it. I rarely use a task killer. Only when a task seems to be hanging up. It looks like Astro has the functionality I need, so I will remove Advanced Task Killer.

HTC Droid Eris :: Advanced Task Manager Killing Home Screen

Anyway I can exclude Home from this. It doesn't appear to be an option in my Apps list when i open Advanced Task Manager

I have YET to receive a single email from androidforums.com when I use "Instant Email Notification" for thread replies.

1. what is the difference between a task killer and a task manager?

2. should we be using one of these apps or not?

3. when you look at the awake time if it is like 70% or 80% and you aren't using the phone a bunch I take it that means something is running, how can you find what is running.and is the awake time that big of deal?

HTC Eris :: Using Clockworkmod ROM Manager?

Apr 29, 2010

Searching here, it seems all results are from the Droid root forum, so I'm curious as to whether any rooted Eris users are using the ClockworkMod ROM Manager. I'm getting that itchy finger where I want to fool with things again, and it seems like a nice utility, but it's a little off-putting when I find few Eris-related results when researching the application. If it matters, I went the 1.5 -> rooted 2.1 route.

This is for all of you who are having troubles getting your application "Wireless Tether for Root Users" to work. I personally kept getting an error on which would say "Initializing WiFi Interface: Failed." I have since been able to get it to work. Here's how.

Steps:
1. Boot phone into Recovery by holding Volume Up + Power (End Button).
2. Wipe phone of all data.
3. Flash to the 0_3 rom, install Astro File Manager from the Market
4. Download and install file from below and place into phones SD card.
5. Install from Astro by opening it in App Manger, Open up application and enjoy!

Motorola Droid :: Unrooted Droid But Super User / ROM Manager Won't Delete

Sep 10, 2010

I searched on how to completely remove both of these and one method was using Terminal Emulate. When i tried this method and typed in su to start the process it would say "permission denied". Do i have to reroot my phone again in order to get rid of these two apps? I'm doing this in order to take my phone to verizon. Do you guys think its necessary to make it perfectly clean of any "rooted" things? It is now unrooted it just has those two icons!! so frustrating. read somewhere else that if these icons are still there that i am still rooted...is this true? also I do not care if i lose everything... I just want my phone restored to factory settings so i can take it in to verizon..

Motorola Droid :: When To Wipe Rom Manager?

Mar 29, 2010

When using rom manager when do you need to wipe and when don't you? So far, I have wiped data anytime I switch to a different rom. I am currently using Ultimate Droid. If I want to try some of the things offered in the ultimate droid customizer, do I need to wipe when changing any of those? Or how about cyanogenmod? I have a nandroid backup of 5.0.5.3. Can I restore that version (with a wipe of course), update to .4 (without a wipe because I have all my apps loaded and settings set the way I want), then try some of the kernals without wiping? Basically, with all the combinations, what are some examples of when you would and wouldn't wipe data?

Motorola Droid :: ROM Manager Not Working Right

I had the new Chevy SS rom installed on my phone but didnt like it as much as the JRummy one. So I reflashed the JRummy rom and installed it. I wanted to reinstall the chevy ulv 1.2ghz kernel on my phone. I usally used rom manager and would just use the option "install ROM from sd card." this has worked everytime since I rooted. But now when I choose to reboot into recovery and continue the installation it just shows the motorola logo and nothing happens until I do a battery pull then the phone starts up normal. I have tried flashing the clockworld mod recovery again and uninstalling and reinstalling rom manager. (I use premium)
