Jul 9, 2010Sometimes when I reboot my phone, I first see the 3 androids on skateboards and then it goes to a pic of phone with the red exclamation point in a triangle (same as the failed recovery error). I can pull my battery but that does not help. My phone is useless for at least 30-45 minutes. I have pulled my battery up to 20 consecutive times to fix with no avail.
The variables: This is a refurb phone with 2.1 pre-installed. I have tried to root my phone with the whole timing trick, pull card, insert card. This was done a week or two ago. I do not have that file on my card, nor was my rooting successful. I am thinking that my problem is due to the refurb. My dialer lag is way worse than my previous phone. I can make one phone call every hour or so and I can forget calling someone right back if I missed their call. Does the red triangle/exclamation point show an attempt at rooting?

Nov 17, 2010I had Swype, all was good. Then it started freezing my screen, or misguiding the touch to the point that removing the battery was the only option. It was not a phone issue, because I factory reset and it works now. I had to because disabling Swype did not solve the problem. Is there any beta or anything out there?I CAN'T GO BACK TO TOUCH INPUT!

Jun 3, 2010This may be really dumb, but how do I turn off the phone? Or know that it is off? I don't get many calls or texts and want to have the battery last by turning the phone off. I push the "off" button and the screen darkens, but the phone stays very warm. Is this normal for the off state?

Sep 2, 2010okay so i downloaded skype mobile and it download but got stuck on the installing screen so i turned the phone off and back on and now it just is stuck in this endless loop of turning off and on. i tried holding down the volume up key while pressing the end call button to do a reset and it just says "cache error". any ideas? maybe skype gave me a virus?

Mar 15, 2010I recently bought an Eris from Craigslist. It had 2.1 on it. I recently got my number ported and activated on the eris on pageplus. Although the weird thing, and this happened before the activation. Is after i used the wifi widget and the 3g turned off the mobile network wont turn on. I tried using the widget toggle as well as in the menu. Its just always stuck as " Turning On".Do i have to do anything to fix this? I thought i saw a thread about this the other night but now i cant find it. I also did a hard reset thinking that would fix the problem before i did OTA Activation.

Jan 7, 2010All of a sudden I can't figure out how to disable the notification sound (like when I get a new email). I have gone into sounds and selected notification sound and expected there to be an option for silent among the other sounds but no dice. And I don't see any other way to turn it off. I know that you can turn off haptic feedback for the screen, but on the eris, i have yet to find a way to turn off the haptic feedback for those specific keys at the bottom. Mar 24, 2010I've had my Eros about a week. It's not a bad piece of equipment, but boy do I find it hard to figure out to get it to do what I want.
The notification feature is driving me nuts.
I can't choose which applications send me a notification nor how frequently it updates. I'd actually be happy if I could turn off notications all together. The only way I've found to do this is put the phone on airplane mode- which then turns off the phone, too.
Can anyone give me some simple tips for how modify or turn off notifications from apps?
HTC Droid Eris : Beautiful Widgets Turning Themselves Off
Feb 27, 2010I was having issues with the home clock/weather thingy on my Eris so I downloaded Beautiful Widgets - my husband is running it on his Moto Droid and loves it. Anyway, ever since I installed it two days ago the widgets keep turning themselves off and on.This morning I put the phone in vibrate mode and several hours later (after I missed a call) I looked and phone was in silent mode with vibrate mode still turned on. Also, twice now my mobile connection has turned off by itself. (I have the HTC widget installed on one of my homescreens.) I only discovered this when I tried to browse a webpage. Who knows at what point the mobile network was turned off. I don't exactly know how beautiful widgets turns itself off but it's concerning to me that it could also turn the mobile network off somehow too. (I have to assume BW is causing the issue as it had never happened before it was installed.)Help? Ideas?

Jan 9, 2010I've recently been having an issue where my Mobile Data randomly does not work. When I go to settings, it is checked as enabled. I have to uncheck and recheck this to get it to 'turn back on' or refresh.I haven't been able to see a pattern yet for why it's turning off, but it seems to sometimes do it after it goes to sleep. I have tried enabling 'Always On' for the data connection, but this doesn't help.

Feb 16, 2010yes, it is . I charged it up Sunday night. Monday evening I still had over 60%. Monday night I did not plug it in, I tuned off 3G though. This morning the battery status still showed ~60%. So what did I do (or what did I NOT do)?
(1) I did not do the battery discharge-recharge thingy. BTW, if you really *fully* discharge a Li-ion battery you will kill it.
(2) I did not download any task killer/manager. This is supposed to be a smart phone to kill things when needed.
(3) I do not use the Home button at all. I always use the back button. my awake time is about 10%
(4) I do autosync, but my WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS is off.
I admit I am not a heavy user, though I have used up about 50 Mb data in 2 days. Peter

Apr 6, 2010I've been attempting to root my Eris, following the sticky at the top of the forum. It has proven to be impossible. I can not get by the USB driver portion of the tutorial. My phone is in debugging mode, but will not show up with an exclamation point no matter what I do, and Windows will not allow me to use the USB driver. I don't know if the tutorial is poorly explained or my phone is broken or corrupted but I've been having problems with it and was hoping the upgrade would fix said problems.

May 9, 2010I woke up this morning and noticed that my 3G was off - so I go into menu to turn it back on and it says "Turning on" so I sit there and watch it for like 5 minutes, still turning on, so I decided to leave it alone for a few hours. Still "turning on". By the way, at this point in time I was running the rooted leak #3 that jcase posted. So here are the steps I've taken to get this issue resolved, all to no avail:
1) reboot - when it booted back up, still said "turning on..."
2) factory data/dalvik clear - same. after setup, still "turning on..."
3) restore to previous NAND backup from a few days ago - still "turning on..."
4) factory data/dalvik wipe and flash new ROM (Ivan's 1.0 OC ROM) - same thing.. after setup, still "turning on..."
5) *228 program - phone rebooted with the 3G symbol showing, but no data connection could be found by any apps, including the browser. shortly after that, the 3G icon disappeared and we're back to "turning on..."
6) update PRL - same as above
7) flash Alltel/VZW Hybrid PRL - same as above
8) Turn on Airplane Mode - 3G went from "turning off..." to "off", but as soon as I took out of of Airplane mode, it went back to "turning off"
9) Battery pull - same thing.. rebooted, still "turning off..."
So now, I'm sitting here with Ivan's new 1.0 ROM but no data. Every now and then, the 3G icon will show up and in the settings, it tells me that mobile network is on, but the icon never shows that it's receiving data, only sending. Then the icon goes away and it's back to "turning on...". By the way, my radio is 2.41.04.02.02.

Now... I use Locale for the following:
- Turning the ringer down when I get to work (obviouse one)
- Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi on when I plug it in the phone (think car dock)
- Turn on Wifi when I get near my known hot spots.
- Turn off GPS/Bluetooth/wifi off and turn down brightness when my battery is low.
And the last one is a good one for me...
- I have a GV number. When I call my phone from that number, it turns the ringer volume all the way up and it turns on wifi and GPS. This is my "lost phone aid". It turns on the locating features so I can see where the phone is using iGoogle and Latitude, and I can hear the phone if it is "in the cushions" on vibrate.
Anyone else get creative with Locale?
