HTC EVO 4G :: Turning Off The Stock Messaging Notifications?
Aug 3, 2010When I first got my EVO, one of the first things I heard to do was get Chomp or Handcent... I got both and was getting triple notifications... So I said i'll bear with it for a bit till I see which one I like best... I though Chomp was a lil better than handcent so i went them...
Then I kept getting double notifications even when turning off the stock messaging notifications....
So I said lemme give the stock app another try.... I can't front, its nice! I think I might even run with it for a little while to see if I like it enough to use all the time...

Jun 3, 2010This may be really dumb, but how do I turn off the phone? Or know that it is off? I don't get many calls or texts and want to have the battery last by turning the phone off. I push the "off" button and the screen darkens, but the phone stays very warm. Is this normal for the off state?

Sep 2, 2010okay so i downloaded skype mobile and it download but got stuck on the installing screen so i turned the phone off and back on and now it just is stuck in this endless loop of turning off and on. i tried holding down the volume up key while pressing the end call button to do a reset and it just says "cache error". any ideas? maybe skype gave me a virus?

Oct 24, 2010I installed handcent and really really like it but how do I stop the default messaging app from popping up with alerts for new texts. It keeps popping up on the top bar whenever I get a text from anyone even after accessing that text in Handcent. It's not that big a deal but I need to go into my messaging app and view it to get rid of that notification. Is there a way to stop the notifications for the messaging app? Thank you.

Mar 15, 2010I recently bought an Eris from Craigslist. It had 2.1 on it. I recently got my number ported and activated on the eris on pageplus. Although the weird thing, and this happened before the activation. Is after i used the wifi widget and the 3g turned off the mobile network wont turn on. I tried using the widget toggle as well as in the menu. Its just always stuck as " Turning On".Do i have to do anything to fix this? I thought i saw a thread about this the other night but now i cant find it. I also did a hard reset thinking that would fix the problem before i did OTA Activation.

Jan 7, 2010All of a sudden I can't figure out how to disable the notification sound (like when I get a new email). I have gone into sounds and selected notification sound and expected there to be an option for silent among the other sounds but no dice. And I don't see any other way to turn it off. I know that you can turn off haptic feedback for the screen, but on the eris, i have yet to find a way to turn off the haptic feedback for those specific keys at the bottom. Mar 24, 2010I've had my Eros about a week. It's not a bad piece of equipment, but boy do I find it hard to figure out to get it to do what I want.
The notification feature is driving me nuts.
I can't choose which applications send me a notification nor how frequently it updates. I'd actually be happy if I could turn off notications all together. The only way I've found to do this is put the phone on airplane mode- which then turns off the phone, too.
Can anyone give me some simple tips for how modify or turn off notifications from apps?
HTC Droid Eris : Beautiful Widgets Turning Themselves Off
Feb 27, 2010I was having issues with the home clock/weather thingy on my Eris so I downloaded Beautiful Widgets - my husband is running it on his Moto Droid and loves it. Anyway, ever since I installed it two days ago the widgets keep turning themselves off and on.This morning I put the phone in vibrate mode and several hours later (after I missed a call) I looked and phone was in silent mode with vibrate mode still turned on. Also, twice now my mobile connection has turned off by itself. (I have the HTC widget installed on one of my homescreens.) I only discovered this when I tried to browse a webpage. Who knows at what point the mobile network was turned off. I don't exactly know how beautiful widgets turns itself off but it's concerning to me that it could also turn the mobile network off somehow too. (I have to assume BW is causing the issue as it had never happened before it was installed.)Help? Ideas?

Aug 8, 2010Handcent NEVER worked on my phone and ive been having troubles with chomp lately so i went back to stock. The things that bug me about the stock one are:
- When i receive a picture message, its displayed in a slideshow and only have 5 seconds to view it before it disappears.
HOW DO I DISABLE THAT OR ADD MORE TIME TO VIEW IT?
- I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to save a picture i receive,
HOW DO I SAVE THE PHOTOS?
Samsung Moment :: Stock Messaging App Won't Stop Notifications
Aug 27, 2010This may not be the best place for this, but I'm hoping someone else here has seen this. The stock messaging app won't stop notifications even if they're turned off...even if the app is deleted? If mms.apk is installed, it keeps notifying me even though it's notifications is turned off. If I remove mms.apk it keeps notifying me that I have 0 new messages. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling and removing. I'm running a sdx kitchen rom with meatkernel 2.0.9/no jit and I have ChompSMS installed. I don't understand how the app can keep notifying me if it's uninstalled? Other than this, the rom has been rock solid with good bat life, so I don't want to flash to stock and start all over for the 5th time this week.

Nov 29, 2012If someone sends me a group text, I usually end up with a bunch of replies from people I don't know. Same thing happens to everyone I send a group text to - they end up with a bunch of replies from people they don't know. This might be surprising to the software developers, but most of us have more than two friends, and those friends don't all know each other. It would be awesome if this feature could be turned off so that people aren't unnecessarily subjected to spam from others, who certainly don't intend for a large audience to see their replies.
This usually just results in confusion about who they're getting all these messages from, and I end up getting a bunch of "who is this" messages too. It's a really dopey feature because it definitely destroys privacy, and now my friends/family think they can't reply to my texts without others being able to read their responses.
Even I think twice about responding to a text now because I don't want a bunch of people who I don't know reading a response I intend only a friend to see, and I really don't want to end up with about 15 "who's this?" texts.
Is there any way to turn this off, or are we stuck with this "feature"?

May 28, 2010My battery keeps on over heating when i charge it. My battery started acting funny this week when i plugged it in to the charger and it would charge stop charge stop continuous. Should i take it up to Verizon and see what they say.

Jan 9, 2010I've recently been having an issue where my Mobile Data randomly does not work. When I go to settings, it is checked as enabled. I have to uncheck and recheck this to get it to 'turn back on' or refresh.I haven't been able to see a pattern yet for why it's turning off, but it seems to sometimes do it after it goes to sleep. I have tried enabling 'Always On' for the data connection, but this doesn't help.

Because if you download the stock messaging apk, it won't install because it is basically named the same thing as my HTC messaging app that comes stock. So if Handcent and all installs as seperate messaging apps, is there a way to make the stock Android messaging different so that it will install? If I can modify the Handcent apk, resign, and install it successfully, shouldn't there be a way to modify the stock Android messaging app and install it without root?

Aug 18, 2010I cant load any contacts while trying to send a text (i can but it takes FOREVER!!!like over a minute or 2) say im trying to text "tammie" i will type in "t" and it will load everyone and their mothers names that have a "t" anywhere in their name, then take a minute or 2 to FINALLY find "tammie"...and half the time i find "tammie" it will close out as soon as i tap the name.. even if i go into people/contacts, and try to send a text that way it takes forever their info to load to get into message them. the fastest way is to scroll through all of my old text messages and hopefully i have text that person before..any ideas whats going on?
i cleared my web history, cookies ect..tried deleting photos and videos, and deleted all of my old texts, thinking i was somehow short on memory, even though i have a ton left...

So is there anyway I can get it onto my phone without having to flash a different one? I know there was a port to of it for non root phones but supposedly it was having a bug that would make each message appear twice... so I don't want to deal with that.

Feb 16, 2010yes, it is . I charged it up Sunday night. Monday evening I still had over 60%. Monday night I did not plug it in, I tuned off 3G though. This morning the battery status still showed ~60%. So what did I do (or what did I NOT do)?
(1) I did not do the battery discharge-recharge thingy. BTW, if you really *fully* discharge a Li-ion battery you will kill it.
(2) I did not download any task killer/manager. This is supposed to be a smart phone to kill things when needed.
(3) I do not use the Home button at all. I always use the back button. my awake time is about 10%
(4) I do autosync, but my WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS is off.
I admit I am not a heavy user, though I have used up about 50 Mb data in 2 days. Peter
