I was just looking over at the apps section of androidforums and found a link for the Need for Speed Shift apk. Has anybody tried it on the Eris to see if it works? I assume the processor can't handle it, but thought I would ask.

My Eris does not seem to be taking advantage of the WiFi speed capabilities of my home network. I just tested my network in multiple ways. I'm getting good connection speeds on all devices EXCEPT my Eris. Here's what I did:
1. I went to Speakeasy.net and tested the hard wired internet connection speed to my PC. The result was 22 mbps down.
2. I tested the wireless connection speed to my laptop, also via Speakeasy.net. Again, 22 mbps.
3. I tested the wireless connection speed to my wife's iMac, also via Speakeasy.net. Once again, 22 mbps
4. I tested the connection speed on my Eris (repeatedly) via a speed test app that I downloaded from the Market. Only 2.5 mbps.
5. I loaded the Speakeasy.net website in my Eris' Android browser and ran the same test. Only 2.9 mbps. So, all wired and wireless devices in the house are getting ~ 22 mbps, while my Eris is getting significantly less. Specifications:
-Eris is running default Android 1.5 OS
- Home wireless router is a Netgear Wireless-N Router model # WNR2000 running in WPA-PSK [AES] security mode. "Mode" is set to the highest -- "Up to 300 mbps."
Assuming the "Better Terminal Emulator" selling for $3.99 in the marketplace works, are there any other terminal apps that work with the Eris that people are using? I tried the free "Terminal Emulator" but it appears a virtual keyboard does not work.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently activated my old Blackberry Curve because of my frustration with certain features on my Eris. I thought that I would still be able to browse the Internet on my Eris using wifi only but it's not really working. The reason I say "not really" is because I can do a Google search and look at Google News, etc, but I can't really go anywhere else. If I click on a link, or select one of my bookmarks, it just sits there and eventually times out. Does anyone understand why this won't work? When my Eris was activated, I could use wifi in areas where I had no cell coverage. I may reactivate my Eris soon.... I do miss the fun of it. Also the call quality is somewhat better than my Curve - although the Curve gets better reception in marginal signal areas. Love my Curve for push email and the real keyboard. When it's time for an upgrade, I am going to have a hard time deciding whether to go with the latest Blackberry or Android phone. If they come out with a top of the line android phone with a good physical keyboard (not like the Droid's) I will be very tempted.

I was just looking at a newly released video of the Nexus One and I wondered if the ERis gets updated to 2.1 would it be able to handle the movement of the background images. I noticed with Beautiful Widgets, before it was laid to rest, that if you clicked on the weather when it was cloudy you could see the clouds moving in the background. But will the constant moving images on 2.1 slow up the processor on the Eris.

I get around 1mb/sec using 3G. My laptop gets around 15mb/s over my 802.11g network. I'm guessing that the difference might be because my laptop has 4gb ram and a dual core and the ERIS doesn't.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wife's stock 1.5 Eris got the 2.1 update the other day. Since then she cannot setup her speed dials. It goes through like it works, but there are still no speed dials in the list. I cleared cache and data from Dialer and the two People apps in the manager, but it hasn't resolved it. VZW support last night had me do a battery pull, but that also didn't help.
So other than the Factory Reset option, is there anything I can do? Are there any apps specific to Speed Dials? I'd like to avoid the reset at all costs, if possible.
I charge it from the wall outlet, my home PC, my work laptop, and also my car cigarette lighter. I kinda feel like they charge at different rates, but I have a hunch that's not true.

I heard that there were issues with several gvoice updates, so I haven't updated google voice since 0.2.8 and it is working just fine- every call connects, no problems. Past 2 days the wireless has been down due to a storm and I was forced to use phone for internet after not using it for months. Its slow almost dial up slow, even tho the phone shows its in 3G the browsing and download speeds are painfully slow. By the way I am using easy tether.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne thing that has kind of always urked me about this phone when comparing it to the evil iPhone is the transitions between pages. Why is it that there is always a little jerk here and there on transitioning from one page to the next? I noticed that lists are often even worse! I mean, how hard is it to render some scrolling text? At the moment, I am running IC3, and it seems to have sped things up quite a bit, but I think the transition issue is an issue with the core O.S. itself? I am just thinking that a nice, smooth transition would give me warm fuzzies (which is kind of what I was expecting when going root). I know it's minor, but I've always been curious.
Also, I bought SetCPU, and I haven't been able to quite figure out how to overclock this phone yet... I tried raising the min speed, and it locked up the phone. The top speed is set at 880k by default, but it always reads "526" for the current frequency. I was kind of expecting it to have two simple sliders One for low frequency (idle) and one for high that were self explanatory, but that does not appear to be the case. I've been thinking about throwing JIT on it as well since everyone has been talking about it, but I just haven't had the time to really dig into the reading yet.

Kind of confused about the CPU speed. Right now i have it set 710max and 245min and on ondemand, is that what i should be doing?
Well, I rooted my Eris to 2.1, mainly for the Navigator option, and all seems to be alright EXCEPT Google maps & Navigation. I get a exception message and only option is a Forced Close.
Have tried the Manage Apps-Filter--Do not get option to delete Updates--only choice is to clear data.
If I do that, where will I re download the google maps app?
