Android :: Speed Dialer Needed For Use While Driving
Dec 26, 2008I know, you can make short cuts, but they are a real pain (and unsafe) to use while driving. It would be great to long press on any number in the dialer and dial a selected number. By the way, I'm sure you've noticed if you select a number on the dialer, then press # a contact number on your SIM card appears. Not sure what the hell they were thinking of with that one...

Mar 25, 2010Can anyone confirm if the dialer has been fixed? I am specifically interested in hearing from people who have re-installed all of their apps/widgets from the original 2.1 leak. I know the phone runs snappier when its been wiped, but most bugs seem to creep in after most apps are restored. My current dialer (original 2.1 leak) is a steaming pile of fail. I know I am not alone!

Dec 14, 2009OK I see there are a few threads on this so called "voice dialer".However, if you're driving along and activate voice dialer (which is simple enough, no problem there) what's the point of having to say "Call Robert Smith" and then have to look at the screen, see if it's got the correct name and touch it to make the call?Doesn't this defeat the purpose of voice activated dialing?My older Motorola Krave had a real touch free voice dialer that responded to you and asked if it's choice was correct at which point you could say "yes" and it would dial it.Now we have the latest greatest Androids that can't do that.Whoever developed this app had no clue about the dysfunction and potential hazards involved with this "feature".I love my Eris but was completely disappointed with this app.

Dec 1, 2009I've searched the forums but haven't found a fix for this yet. I like to call people on my way home from work. I used to tap my bluetooth, have my phone in my purse and say 'Call Bob Mobile' and woosh - it calls Bob on his mobile. I've tried the voice dialer that came with the phone and it can't understand a work I say even when I'm holding it right next to me. It's driving me nuts. Are there any apps that will make my bluetooth call Bob when I tap it?

Feb 12, 2010Iv had my Eris for about a month now and love it.It's easily the best phone I've had (my previous were all dumb phones). However, this is the frist phone I have had where the voice recognition actually works. Google voice search is incredible. The wierd thing is though, my voice dialer doesnt work AT ALL. I thought it was maybe becuase I was running ATM, but I stopped like 2 weeks ago and it still isn't working. I mean it wont recognize anything- not even redial or open calendar.

May 21, 2010I am looking for a way to replace the Eris dialer for the GV dialer. When you first make a call with GV selected it pulls up the GV dialer google_voice_android_1.jpg.Then it switches the the Eris dialer.Does anyone know if/how the GV dialer could be used instead of the Eris'?I really like the look of the GV dialer much better than that of the Eris.

What I do like is the dialer on the Samsung Moment. I like the tabs to switch between the call log, contacts and favorites.

HTC Droid Eris :: Slow WiFi Speed On Droid Eris 1.5
Mar 15, 2010My Eris does not seem to be taking advantage of the WiFi speed capabilities of my home network. I just tested my network in multiple ways. I'm getting good connection speeds on all devices EXCEPT my Eris. Here's what I did:
1. I went to Speakeasy.net and tested the hard wired internet connection speed to my PC. The result was 22 mbps down.
2. I tested the wireless connection speed to my laptop, also via Speakeasy.net. Again, 22 mbps.
3. I tested the wireless connection speed to my wife's iMac, also via Speakeasy.net. Once again, 22 mbps
4. I tested the connection speed on my Eris (repeatedly) via a speed test app that I downloaded from the Market. Only 2.5 mbps.
5. I loaded the Speakeasy.net website in my Eris' Android browser and ran the same test. Only 2.9 mbps. So, all wired and wireless devices in the house are getting ~ 22 mbps, while my Eris is getting significantly less. Specifications:
-Eris is running default Android 1.5 OS
- Home wireless router is a Netgear Wireless-N Router model # WNR2000 running in WPA-PSK [AES] security mode. "Mode" is set to the highest -- "Up to 300 mbps."

May 21, 2010Before the OTA I was able to select which apllication was used when the large "phone" button was pushed on the homepage. I think what used to happen was that when you downloaded a new phone dialer and then pressed the phone button the first time you were given an option as to what app you want to use for this action. Once you chose an app it was always activated when you pressed the phone button. I don't see this happening anymore.

On more than one occasion it will ring and when I answer the call, there's no sound, likewise when I place a call, it won't even ring. If it helps, here are the apps I've downloaded and installed:

xScope (the paid version)
Barcode Scanner
Compass
Johnson Bubble Level
Metal Detector
I've set my modem slot to 1 but it hasn't fixed the issue, I have disabled haptic feedback and cleared the call log (which is usually pretty empty anyways).
HTC Droid Eris :: Unable To Change Default Dialer With 2.1
May 15, 2010I just got the 2.1 update and I'm just trying to figure everything out.The one thing that I'm having a problem with is changing the default dialer.I had this problem before using aContacts, but was able to fix it in 1.5.But now that I have the 2.1 update,I cannot change the default dialer, which hasn't changed at all. uninstalled and reinstalled aContacts but it did not work. I never got the popup asking which app I want to use as the default.If anyone can help,it would be appreciated.Maybe it's a glitch - I don't know.

Dec 5, 2009What kind of download speed should I expect with my Droid ERIS? Using my 802.11g wireless router I get around 2mb/sec according to spreedtest.net. I get around 1mb/sec using 3G. My laptop gets around 15mb/s over my 802.11g network. I'm guessing that the difference might be because my laptop has 4gb ram and a dual core and the ERIS doesn't.

May 4, 2010Every week or so my Eris won't dial out. I get a long silence followed by a network busy error. I go to manage applications/dialer and clear dialer storage and it works fine...as long as I do that or reboot the phone every few days. I found this solution on another forum, but couldn't find much discussion or analysis of the problem.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any long term solutions? It's happened since I got the phone months ago and I have very few apps... almost none when it first started. Not using Google Voice. Still running 1.5.
HTC Droid Eris :: Turn Vibrate On Press Off / Silence Emergency Dialer?
Apr 20, 2010Did a little searching and got nothing on this.
Is there a way I can turn the vibrate on press off for the dialer? I think that is causing some of the lag. Nothing on my phone vibrates except when receiving a call and when dialing. It's much more responsive with vibrate on press turned off. Also is there a way to silence the emergency dialer?
