I am having horrible signal problems. My old phone the ENV2 in the same exact seat I am in right now I had full signal strength. The Eris on the other hand, I have none, it flips from no bars to X all day long. I can not receive calls nor can I make a call. Has anyone had problems with theirs? Or what might I be able to do ?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI updated my Eris to 2.1 about a month ago, and it's been running fine up until about last week. Lately, the battery hasn't been lasting me more than 12 hours, and I've done everything I can to save battery life, plus the battery cover usually gets hot enough to cook some eggs on top of. The problems I've encountered lately is with making and receiving calls. When trying to call someone, it seems to take forever. I know my phone isn't the fastest Android, but it used to work fine. It takes a good 30 seconds just to type in a 10 digit number; the phone usually freezes a couple of times, its just generally laggy.
When I try to receive a call, the same basic thing happens. The phone freezes up while I am trying to slide the bar down on the lock screen, etc. Here's the main issue. After sifting through the freezing and lagging, and finally get to the call, I cannot hear anything, and they cannot hear me. The call is connected; I see the notification up top, and I have got the vibrate to tell me it's connected.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior?right before I make a voice call the droid will show 4 bars, when I place a voice call it will drop to 0 bars and the voice quality is pretty bad.In the phone settings you can see the DBm signal strengh and before I make a call it will show -96 and when I make a call it will go to -104.I have noticed this even when right on top of a cell tower.You actually don't notice it when the signal is very strong, but on my droid it does appear that the signal degraded significantly when doing a voice call.It also does the same thing when the Wifi is turned on, it's almost like it's switching to another antenna for the voice when wifi is on or you make a call.So far I have not been impressed with the phones voice quaility at all.
View 32 Replies View RelatedI rooted and installed kaosfroyo and now cannot make or receive calls because my mic is not working. Call can be made but the person on the other end does not hear me.
A few other things are that my wifi and verizon data are not working. When I plug the usb I can't mount the SD card.
On the lock screen it says Sprint in the upper right.
Greetings all. Another "long time lurker, first time poster."I am wondering if anyone else is experience dropped calls and occasionally dodgy reception with their Hero. Specifically I am having problems dropping calls in my apartment, which seems to be at the edge of three different towers (I will connect to all three just by walking from room to room...don't know if that is typical).I am new to Sprint, so I don't quite have a feel for what I should expect from the network, but my fiancee--also on Sprint but with a different phone--doesn't seem to have the same issues.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to the second 2.1 leak for the eris and my usually always shows that I have one or two bars of signal strength but when I go to about phone it shows that i have -89db signal strength, is that good and is there just something wong with the bar signal indicator or is that a bad signal and if so how can I increase my signal? I already tried using the *228 number thing to update my prl but that didn't help. Before the leak i would have three or for bars

I am noticing the bars will fluctuate wildly while sitting at my desk in an area that has great Verizon coverage! I am looking at my Signal Strength and it is flipping from 89 dBm 12 asu to 0 dBm 0 asu without even moving the phone! What is going on?? Do I have a bad device, or is this normal? View 13 Replies View RelatedCouldnt find my answer on the previous topics. But my phone on verizon hardly has full signal. Im running 2.1 on a brand new phone that i bought off a guy from craigslist. It seems my signal is only 1 to 2 bars most of the time, giving me around -86dbm. Sometimes it will be 3 bars, then it drops to one or none. Wondering if this is killing my battery too. Is there some update that fixes this? Or some test to perform if whats happeneing is normal or what?
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that my wifi signal strength is crap. I can be in the same room about 4 ft away from my router and my signal strength is 2 bars on my wifi. Also on my 3g coverage I am at 1-2 bars max. When I 1st got my phone never had this problem. Any ideas?

One theory is that the 2.1 signal values are different and thus report a difference in signal in the bars and in settings.
I was having issues with constant dropped calls from my house, which is in an area according to the Sprint coverage map that should have excellent coverage. I went to my Sprint store, which is a repair center, and they told me to go to menu>settings>Wireless controls>Mobile network settings>Roaming, and switch from Automatic to Sprint only. I did this, and have not dropped a call yet. The tech told me that depending on exactly where you are and where the nearest Sprint tower is compared to the nearest say Verizon tower, the phone will continuously try to switch between the two towers for the best signal when set to Automatic, and that can cause dropped calls, static calls etc. Ever since I switched this setting I have not dropped one single call or gotten any static, even with 0-1 bars for signal strength. He told me only use Automatic if you are in an area where your phone has no service due to no nearby Sprint tower.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had my Incredible since the 29th (yes, I had to wait) and it is been fantastic except for one important thing - call quality.I know everyone in here has been discussing signal strength and bars, but I've been experiencing very poor quality in calls. It only seems to be the audio I'm hearing (people on the other end say I sound fine) that is bad - with everything from little 1 second "scuffs" (sounds like someone blowing on the phone mic), to 1 second moments of silence while someone is talking, to what sounds like auto-tune on the person's voice. When there isn't distortion the person sounds kind of muffled. Many times even the audio of the ringing cuts out a couple times or sounds distorted when calling someone.Anyone on here experiencing a similar issue? I stopped by my local VZW store to which the technician didn't feel there was a problem and refused to replace my phone (although they had no new phones anyways). I've done a hard reset to remove any apps that may be interfering with the calls and it's still the same. Also have tested at least 50 calls in several areas of Rochester, NY (30ish mile radius) over the past 4 days.

At my house my phone shows 2-3 bars and between 84-93db most of the time. Is that good? what should be a standard for evaluating signal strength? Sorry if this has already been done. In past threads i've seen posts re: decibals but none i've ever seen has stated what the norm/standard is or what a person should expect. As far as flashing a new radio I know its trial and error. I was just wanting to know what I should expect. TYVM in advance for your answers. BTW running Fresh 2.3.3 with his stock radio 1.04.01.09.21

"If you hold the phone wrong your dBm signal strength drops by 20!" "The battery doesn't last through the day!" etc. etc.I know usually it's a "vocal minority" thing but the sheer volume of complaints on this forum is worrying me.Is anyone here having a more or less flawless experience with the Incredible as far as phone calls are concerned? I.e. are you getting good 3G reception as compared with prior phones you've had on VZW and so forth?I am really REALLY on the fence between the Incredible and the Motorola Droid and I don't want to regret getting the Inc if these problems are blown out of proportion.

1. I tested the signal strength at 5 locations. All locations had great 3g speeds for all the phones. The first INC is an original phone, and the second INC is a replacement.

My question is, how can i have GREAT 3g speeds with all the phones, yet have a terrible signal strength. I'm on my 2nd phone and still have the same issues. ( So its not a bad batch)
2. The first thing the other 2 users of the phones mentioned right out of the box there was a very defined echo. The echo was of their own voice, not the other person on the line. I've noticed it on and off, but nothing to bad. People also complain they can hear the echo, making us hard to hear on the phone. I really like the Incredible, but I guess unless someone from Verizon tells me to wait for an update, or someone here has a solution Im gonna have to go back to the Blackberry. Anyone else having the same problems?....
I can receive calls and call out but I cant hear anything. At first I thought it was because the network was down but that's not the case. I then check to see if mute was on and the volume was up. Everything seems fine but maybe someone can point me into the right direction.

My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?

In my house, my signal is crap...I even miss texts....I'll have a "4G" icon one minute, and absolutely nothing the next..on the phone plugged into the charger, sitting in the exact same place.Same thing even happens outside...I've called Verizon, and all they want to do is sell me the repeater thing...
I've found a few articles about this subject on the web, but they seem to be dated...I'd REALLY like the phone to automatically to switch to WIFI calling/receiving, when I hit my home network.But if I have to switch it myself....
My Hero has been playing up recently. Drops calls as I try and make them and will not receive calls. I did a factory reset and it all worked again earlier this week but it has just gone back to no calls.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI saw somewhere that you can supposedly turn off your 3g (mobile network radio) and use wifi to make/receive calls. Is this true? I've attempted to test this out by using the mobile widget and turning it off. I can make and receive calls with only wifi on, but I still find it hard to believe. I'm assuming that I haven't fully turned off the 3g radio. Looking for options, as I work in a bad reception zone (basement).
View 2 Replies View RelatedEven after numerous factory resets, through both the Volume Down+Send+End and Settings>Privacy>Factory Reset methods, my Eris has been unable to send or receive texts, and will not allow me to send or receive calls. When I try to text, I get an SMS error with Cause Code: 34 and Error Class: 3. When I try to call, I get an automated error saying that my phone can't be authenticated at this time, and am advised to call #8899. Even after doing so, I get the same authentication error. Wi-Fi seems to work correctly, and my Google and Facebook accounts all sync pretty much perfectly. Is anyone else having any kind of problem like this? And, either way, does anyone know of any possible alternatives that may fix the problem besides a total replacement of the phone?
View 6 Replies View RelatedTried to make a call today and it just sits at dialing and where it usually shows 1x icons its not there, just signal bars and gps icon. I thought reset would fix it but no, tried calling my phone goes to voicemail.
So I backed up my data and used reset in the security settings. Successfully made activation call to *228 and thought the problem is fixed, however when I tried placing call again it just sits at dialing screen for few seconds and ends the call.
I rooted my phone successfully last night and installed MoDaCo.
Everything worked OK. Today I tried Cyanogen and it seemed to work OK. I've tried to install a couple of themes. One worked and one didn't.
I don't know when, but my phone will now not send or receive texts or calls. I still have a 3G data connection (back to MoDaCo) and the internet and Market work fine.
I really don't know what to do. The recovery image "recovery-ra-nexus..." seems to have disappeared from the bootloader. The phone isn't bricked so I guess that there is a way out of this?
SO I've restored my first Nand Backup which is the recovery image ra-nexus-v1.7.0.
It quoted restore complete. I backed up and rebooted. Weird thing is it boots up into Cyanogen ROM!!! And now I have no service, NOTHING!
I used my phone with no problem yesterday (made and received calls), then went to sleep and charged my phone overnight. When I woke up this morning, I tried to make a call and just got "this number is not in use", thought it was something to do with that persons number. Tried to call some other numbers and always got the same thing. I asked my brother to call me and it just went straight to voicemail. Then, when I opened "Phone" I noticed that there was something wrong with my last few calls made. Phone numbers here in Iceland are 7 letters, for example 1234567.. but all the recent calls I made looked like 6171234567, that 617 always got added before the number I tried to call and that made it fail. I only see 1234567 when trying to make the call, when I look at the phone while listening to "This number is not in use", I never see that 617 until I've hung up and check the call log. I did try to call +3541234567 though (354 being the Icelandic country code) and that went through fine. But if I don't use it, the 617 gets added. Has anyone ever experienced this problem? I thought it might be some setting so automatically add a country/area code before a number or something like that, but didn't find anything in settings.

When i try to call a number it doesnt even ring or anything. when someone tries to call me the phone doesnt ring either. What did i do wrong?. Everything else is working fine. View 13 Replies View RelatedJust got my refurbished Captivate in the mail today, charged and activated it as per the instructions. It worked just fine for about 30 minutes or so. I put on a few apps and showed them off to my roommate, and things were going fine. Then all of a sudden I couldn't send or receive phone calls, nor was I able to get/send text messages. With no pattern or logic I would go from 3g to edge to neither of the two symbols (just full signal strength) to the international no sign where my full bars just were. If I typed and tried to send a text while the no sign was visible it would send and receive texts as soon as I got signal back, but that would only last a few minutes.
I've tried hard and soft resets and restoring the phone to factory settings, all to no avail, as well as checking my message center number. I've looked around in the forums and can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem, and I was hoping someone would have some advice or could point me to a thread that I may have missed. I'd talk to AT&T but chat hours are over and I have to be up early for work tomorrow and need my phone for that, so I'm not sure I can ask customer service tomorrow beforehand.
