General :: How To Call And Receive Over WiFi When Have No Signal Inside Of A Building
Apr 7, 2014
In my house, my signal is crap...I even miss texts....I'll have a "4G" icon one minute, and absolutely nothing the next..on the phone plugged into the charger, sitting in the exact same place.Same thing even happens outside...I've called Verizon, and all they want to do is sell me the repeater thing...
I've found a few articles about this subject on the web, but they seem to be dated...I'd REALLY like the phone to automatically to switch to WIFI calling/receiving, when I hit my home network.But if I have to switch it myself....

I work in a large building and getting the Internet is painful here (it comes but just takes awhile to load certain sites) is there anything I can do to improve signal strength when indoors?
Any certain antenna I can try or something?

I am having horrible signal problems. My old phone the ENV2 in the same exact seat I am in right now I had full signal strength. The Eris on the other hand, I have none, it flips from no bars to X all day long. I can not receive calls nor can I make a call. Has anyone had problems with theirs? Or what might I be able to do ?

Lately it seems as though every time I tried to use the Market ,Slacker radio or Pandora radio I have problems staying connected to the network. Even with a fairly decent wifi signal I receive a network error message. My phone is completely stock other than Apps I have downloaded.

On my EVO, my time without a signal is usually over 90%. I live in a good coverage area, but low bars inside of my house/office (both the same, where I am all day) I put on airplane mode for kicks, and in 12hrs, the battery dropped only 10%. So that being said, it seems to me as if there is a definite conclusion between signal strength and battery life. Any suggestions? and yes, I did the GSM-DCMA trick .

So far I have had bad luck with the signal/call quality. This is not just me not liking the number of bars but actually loosing all signal, not being able to make or receive calls, and it draining the crap out of the battery.Facts:
1) When outside, in my car, near the windows in buildings, the call quality is great
2) A Moto Droid in the same office gets acceptable signal and call quality
3) This is an issue anytime I'm in a building; Lowes, Walmart, the pet store, a mexican resturant... anything larger then my house.
4) My old iPhone never a problem in all of these places.
5) The side affect is it kills my battery life. I purchased the seido extended battery and it is always down to 30% by the time i leave work at 5pm (10 hours off the charger) On the weekends it lasts 40-60 hours no problem.
After talking with a Verizon Tech she told me they would send me a new phone. But due to the back order I won't get it before the end of the month. Which scares me since that puts me out of the 30 day return policy. So I asked her about that and she said this would extend it another 30 days. Which I wish I had in writing but heres for hoping this works because I love the phone when it works

I am switching my phone from Droid X to something new one (probably Droid Charge..) soon.After I switched, my old Droid can be used for checking email or surfing web within Wifi area? Since my Droid will soon end its contract, I want to give it to my friend who just wants to have it as a web checking device.

My Android cell phone overrides my selection of vibrate mode and notification ringing volume (becomes the permanent settings) when pressing the side volume button. I was told by customer service ALL Android phones do this due to the Android operating system. First of all it true? Is there a way to force an Android smart phone to keep the receiving call volume at its intended volume setting and keep the "NEVER" vibrate selection from switching even when pressing the volume button (just want the volume button to control the audio level during a call)? In order to use cell phones for receiving emergency calls one should be able to force a phone to keep its intended receive call notification settings and not allow them to be accidently be changed by pressing an external button.

I am searching for a app that will automatically switch my WiFi signal from one signal that is weak or getting weak to another signal that is stronger. Example I am at work and I will be connected to a hot spot on one side of the building, I go over to the other side of the building and the signal strength is weak and there is a new hot spot next to me that is extremely strong but the phone stays connected to the weak signal until I go and switch it manually to the new hot spot.

I am virtually unable to get a wifi signal in my house on my droid x unless I am a few feet away from my router. None of my other wifi devices in my house are having this issue. When I check my wireless settings on my dx it says the signal strength is poor. I'm running rooted GB 4.5.602. Does the baseband have to do anything with this (BP_C_01.09.13P)?

Hi. I am looking for some advice with regards to how I receive calls on my Xperia X10i. Basically, the story goes as follows...normally when I receive a call I have to do that swipe thing to accept the call, however, at very random times instead of the swipe I get the option of pressing 'Accept Call' or 'Decline Call' which are displayed on the lower part of the screen side-by-side. Now, to be perfectly honest I actually prefer the latter option but do not know why it is so random. To be clear, I have never updated my phone since I got it and I have searched the settings but not been able to locate anything which would explain this.

Even if i try to apply different themes those icons wont change. And another problem is Phone Coverage Signal weak or lost, another phone can receive 50% or full coverage signal.

In my program I have a custom view object. Inside the view class is a method called foo. For some reason when I call foo from my activity, it doesn't fire. Here is the code:
XML of the custom view:
<com.company.application.MyView android:id="@+id/my_view" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
The activity code:
public class Main extends Activity { MyView mView;
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
@Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main);
LayoutInflater li = (LayoutInflater)getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View v = li.inflate(R.layout.main, null); mView= (MyView) v.findViewById(R.id.my_view);
//A button to fire the method inside foo() Button switchLeft = (Button) findViewById(R.id.switch_left); switchLeft.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { callTest(); } } );
} public void callTest() { Log.w(this.getClass().getName(), "clicked left arrow");
mView.foo(); mView.postInvalidate();
} }
Finally here is foo:
public void foo() { mBackground = mContext.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.temp_canvas); Log.w(this.getClass().getName(), "background set");
}
The first log is always written when the button is pressed, but the second log is not because foo never fires. What is the deal here? Upon request, the full view
public class MyView extends View { Drawable mBackground; Context mContext;
public MyView (Context context) { super(context); mContext = context;
mBackground = mContext.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.leftarrow1);
} public MyView (Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
super(context, attrs); mContext = context;
mBackground = mContext.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.leftarrow1);
} public void foo() { mBackground = mContext.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.temp_canvas);
Log.w(this.getClass().getName(), "background set"); }
@Override public void onDraw(Canvas canvas) { Paint paint = new Paint();
paint.setStyle(Paint.Style.FILL); // draw a solid blue circle
paint.setColor(Color.BLUE); canvas.drawCircle(20, 20, 15, paint);
// draw a test background mBackground.setBounds(0, 0, 300, 400);
mBackground.draw(canvas); }

Just got a new case for my Desire off eBay. When I have the Desire all the way inserted in the case and try to call a number, the screen goes BLACK. Yet the call can still be heard going through. I am NOT able to get it back no matter what button I press. Not even with POWER OFF for several seconds! Yet... if I push the phone up half an inch (see pic), the screen goes back every time and the buttons work. Did I mention that the screen is fine when the phone is fully inserted in the case, it only goes black when I make a call using the dialer?
I checked and none of the buttons seem to be depressed when the phone is in the case. Even if they were, it should not cause the screen to lock up like that in black, and the buttons as well.

I want to reach out to others here before I take my Moment back to Best Buy to exchange it for another Moment.
My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?

I have a Apple Time capsule I use for my router and I'm not getting very good signal when using wifi on my EVO. If I'm sitting on my couch 8 ft away it only gets 1 signal bar on the phone. If I walk up to it with my phone the signal starts to get better. Any advice? I have the Time Capsule because I use a MAC. Just FYI before the bashing starts.

Originally when I contacted HTC about wifi issues I got an email reply with a potential solution in it to try. That solution didn't improve anything so today I received a phone call from them. The person I spoke with was trying to collect as much info as possible. Evo software version, s/n, meid, type of router i use, distance away from router when signal drops out etc.I asked him if they'd been able to find something wrong with hardware or software so far and he said i'm the first person that he was actually able to get a hold of to get feedback. Seems like this is in the infant stages.While the evo was booting up I asked if there are anymore OTA updates coming soon and he said they are working on a lot of fixes right now so it was hard to say. I also asked when evo would be getting 2.2 and he didn't sound optimistic about getting it soon. His understanding was that nexus recently released to press that it was getting 2.2, he doesn't think the actual phones even have it yet.
