Sometimes when I add a new person to contacts, multiple duplicate entries get created. I've seen 2 to 3 entries for a new contact, and this has happened roughly 3 times since I got my phone a month or so ago.What's up?

I recently switched gmail accounts. I was able to reconfigure the stock mail app fine. The gmail app took some persuasion but eventually cooperated. The only problem is now all my contacts that were saved in my old gmail acct need to be transferred to my new one. Not a big deal (only have 10 because I lost my phone, reason why I have an Eris). However, my brother called. Since I lost him from my contacts, I used the recent calls window to add him. Hit Save. If I go to People, he isnt there. Retried it 3 times. I figure I can just re add him through gmail on my PC and sync it, but that's inconvenient and I wanna know: why isn't this working?

1 - how do I change the alert notification for my calendar? Originally it was just the standard alert. When I view the settings there was the option to use the standard droid alert of use a ringtone. So, playing around I cheeked use a ring tone. It brought me to a directory(?) or folder with 4 songs that I had downloaded using railio(sp) ringtones. Now that's the only place I can get to for ALL alerts and ringtones. Even for my contacts it goes to the 4 songs I downloaded from railio ringtones and I can't navigate anywhere else.
I have gone into manage applications and uninstalled the ringtone program, but still can't get out of that spot for my alerts and ringtones. It's driving me crazy!
2 - My contacts have multiple entries for one person.
How can I delete the multiple entries for a contact? When I edit the contact information for a person I see 3 - 5 duplicate entries for one contact. When I first got my droid I synced with 2 google accounts - I didn't know what I was doing --- so, the information under one contact is repeated many times.
This might just be me being picky, but... after the update yesterday, when I go to select multiple contacts to send a text to it now gives a list of EVERYONE in my phone book and facebook friends listing their home/email/cell phone numbers all individually, which caused the list to go from about 50 names to scroll through to over 300. Now before the update when I went to select multiple contacts to send a text to it was just the list of the people who's phone numbers I have in my phone. (BTW, this is the stock messaging feature, not an app or any of that). I've looked for hours for a setting to only show phone numbers and not to show facebook contacts in the text selection but no luck at all. Can you guys help a semi tech savvy guy out here?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my Droid Eris (just updated to Android 2.1), I have taken advantage of 2.1 offering support for multiple Gmail accounts. So I have 3 Gmail Accounts in the Gmail app. My question pertains to how Android syncs the contact lists (which include many of the same contacts) from these 3 separate accounts. Will I end up with dozens of duplicate contacts? If so, is there a workaround? Also, is there an easier way to switch between different Gmail accounts? E.g., in the Gmail app, you have to go to Menu then Accounts, which is inefficient. The built-in mail app displays a list of accounts when you open it (an ideal approach), but I would prefer to not open my Gmail accounts in the default mail app.

By a lot I mean nearly 100 if not more of 1 person, but the contact would be something about facebook related. this was for about 15-20 people that had 100+ entries.HOW I FIXED THIS:people > Menu > View Check or uncheck any of the want or dont want. after you're done, click done and check you're phonebook again to see if it worked
I have 2 friends with the same name (lets say John Doe)Android has a habit of merging them, and I can't figure out how to stop this, it seems to happen whenever I turn sync on.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHTC Desire When I tap the 'To' box or the person icon there are multiple entries for each contact. The second person in my contact list appears at least 100 times, others are in there 6, 8 10+ times.Orange Help sent me a text. I deleted it. Took battery out etc. And guess what? No help at all. In the People folder the entries are there in their singular form. Anyone any ideas for resolving this? BTW - the contact only receives one message!!

I have double and triple contacts in my phone now. I've knocked out Google altogether as I never used it before my Droid (HTC Eris). I sync with my personal laptop and it is running Outlook. I also setup an exchange point for my work info and I get all of the *SAME* contacts with that. Is there anyway to delete the contacts off the phone without losing them in my exchange connection? Also, when I add a contact via the phone, I cannot figure out how to get it to sync into exchange.The current sync map I want to move to is:Exchange (work) --> Plaxo.com
Outlook (personal machine) --> Plaxo.com
Eris Droid --> Exchange only That is, if I can figure out how to sync manual entries on my phone to exchange!

In my gmail account in my browser (desktop computer), I go to contacts and I see one entry for myself. It has all the info I want in it (I just added my address).When I go to my droid and find myself in the contact list, I see several sections that begin with "from blah@gmail.com" where it's my email address.Why isn't it only one big section instead of looking like it found my contact info multiple times in my gmail account requiring multiple sub-sections? How come I don't see my address in any of these sub-sections?

Is there a way to show all the calendar entries from January through the present day? It's not a problem in the people app itself, since I have that set to only show google contacts now. The problem is in handcent, as it still shows both entries (phone and google apparently). I've looked in the settings for handcent, but I haven't run across anything for contact lists. Is there any way I can get it to just show one listing per person?

Do three push services (i.e. hotmail, uni + gmail) hog resources? Or is the slowdown just the phone acclimatising to the new accounts?

I was playing with the sample widget (wiktionary) and found out that you can actually add multiple instance of the same widget to the home screen, is there a way to prevent this? An attribute in the XML? View 4 Replies View RelatedI thought I understood that there was no capability to sync with Outlook via the USB cable so I imported all my contacts and my calendar to gmail and that worked fairly well. Except for contact updates being a pain.
The I discovered HTC Sync and installed that. The result was duplicate calendar entries and some, but not all, contact duplicates on the phone.
I deleted the duplicate contacts and re-sync'd so it removed those contacts from Outlook. Luckily I had just backed up my PST file so I was able to get them back.
How to delete all contacts and calender entries from the phone so I can try again.
I'm trying to see how extra information can be attached to contacts entries. Looking at the SDK reference, I stumble upon the Contacts.Extensions (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Contacts.Extens ions.html) and Contacts.People.Extensions (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Contacts.People .Extensions.html) classes. Sadly I can't find any article about what theses classes are for and how to use them. My goal is to add a few extra fields to the contacts entries which do not fit in any of the current available field types (emails, im accounts, phone numbers, postal addresses). Is there a way to achieve this?

From reading around, it appears that there isn't a way to stop this unless you change your contacts not to sync with any of the Gmail groups. But if I do that, then none of my contacts sync with Gmail. Is there a way to stop Gmail from adding contacts when replying to emails?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am sick and tired of deleting duplicate entries in contacts and calendar. There is no rhyme or reason. I get some contacts duplicated numerous times. I get duplicate appointments and my new ones refuse to link to the PC. I have tried everthing that two weeks of constant googling can come up with. I am sooooooo GD sorry that I purchased this POS phone and from my point of view the Android system is also a POS.
Next time I am going to finally bite the bullet and get an iPhone.
If anyone has something new please let me know what to do. I have deleted ALL contacts in Google. I have deleted ALL duplicate contacts at least a dozen times. The stupid system still adds, at random, duplicate contacts and tasks. The stupid phone has even linked contacts with no reason or input from me. The calendar has put holidays in numerous dates. Columbus day was in the calendar seven times when I did the last cleanup (I have done 3 seperate cleanups today alone). Independence day was put on both July 4th and 5th. When I deleted it from the 5th it disappeared altogether. I thought my old Palm Treo was bad.
why do my contacts disappear from the all category when added to my other categories like friends, vendors, family? it is driving me nuts.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI logged in to my gmail and needed to send email and it wouldn't suggest contacts anymore. I went into contacts and all of them gone except the ones that only had email field filled in. The groups that i created are there but no contacts.
I went into my phone and google contacts are there but they won't sync, errors out with "sync is temporary down".
All this creates another problem for me, I have phone contacts and google contacts in my Eris. Phone contact are synced to PC and all is good but I need my google contact in my gmail so I can email people and I have no way of putting them back to gmail and don't even know how to back them up.
Every time I send an e-mail whether on my Hero or just regular Gmail on my computer, that e-mail address gets added to my contact list.This is very frustrating as I just went through and deleted about 150 different email addresses I don't need including about 75-100 craigslist ads.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've had my (generic) Desire for a few weeks now, and have a really nagging/annoying problem in that, where i've added contacts (on the phone memory) and then synced with facebook, it's pulling in their mobile phone number from facebook, but is defaulting to 447584... and will not let me call the contact without first editing the number to read 07584...
The only way around this so far as i can tell, is to manually add the number again as a 'Home' number but with a 0 in place of 44, as re-adding as a mobile just defaults back to the 447584... and then assigning the 'Home' number as the primary contact number. Does anyone have any ideas whether this is a bug or something i've done myself, and also whether there is a way i can update my whole phonebook to change the 44's for 0's rather than manually going through and changing them?
