I sometimes have multiple entries for 1 person.
Is there a way to merge multiple entries into 1 contact?
I know within Gmail (contact) you can select multiple, then click on "Merge these _ contacts..", is there a way to do this on the phone?

THE PROBLEM: was going through my phonebook and for a few contacts, i would have A LOT of duplicates. By a lot I mean nearly 100 if not more of 1 person, but the contact would be something about facebook related. this was for about 15-20 people that had 100+ entries.HOW I FIXED THIS:people > Menu > View Check or uncheck any of the want or dont want. after you're done, click done and check you're phonebook again to see if it worked
I have 2 friends with the same name (lets say John Doe)Android has a habit of merging them, and I can't figure out how to stop this, it seems to happen whenever I turn sync on.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHTC Desire When I tap the 'To' box or the person icon there are multiple entries for each contact. The second person in my contact list appears at least 100 times, others are in there 6, 8 10+ times.Orange Help sent me a text. I deleted it. Took battery out etc. And guess what? No help at all. In the People folder the entries are there in their singular form. Anyone any ideas for resolving this? BTW - the contact only receives one message!!
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn my gmail account in my browser (desktop computer), I go to contacts and I see one entry for myself. It has all the info I want in it (I just added my address).When I go to my droid and find myself in the contact list, I see several sections that begin with "from blah@gmail.com" where it's my email address.Why isn't it only one big section instead of looking like it found my contact info multiple times in my gmail account requiring multiple sub-sections? How come I don't see my address in any of these sub-sections?

1 - how do I change the alert notification for my calendar? Originally it was just the standard alert. When I view the settings there was the option to use the standard droid alert of use a ringtone. So, playing around I cheeked use a ring tone. It brought me to a directory(?) or folder with 4 songs that I had downloaded using railio(sp) ringtones. Now that's the only place I can get to for ALL alerts and ringtones. Even for my contacts it goes to the 4 songs I downloaded from railio ringtones and I can't navigate anywhere else.
I have gone into manage applications and uninstalled the ringtone program, but still can't get out of that spot for my alerts and ringtones. It's driving me crazy!
2 - My contacts have multiple entries for one person.
How can I delete the multiple entries for a contact? When I edit the contact information for a person I see 3 - 5 duplicate entries for one contact. When I first got my droid I synced with 2 google accounts - I didn't know what I was doing --- so, the information under one contact is repeated many times.
I sync my Hero to Outlook. On and off I get some duplicated contacts under my phone. I have been busy deleting. Any idea?

But i have a problem: I imported the contacts from GMail and from the SIM card. Nearby all of my contacts are now two times in the phone, once tagged Google and once tagged Phone...
How can i merge this contacts? I also saw that my GMail Contacts has a group called 'Starred in Android' but it is empty... I also starred some numbers in my Magic, but only Phone-contacts.
Is there an application which could help me to do that or can i upload my Phone-contacts to GMail so that i could use the contacts manager of GMail?
What is up with multiple "categories" in the phone book. By categories I mean:
Google
Exchange
Phone
etc
I have double and triple contacts in my phone now. I've knocked out Google altogether as I never used it before my Droid (HTC Eris). I sync with my personal laptop and it is running Outlook. I also setup an exchange point for my work info and I get all of the *SAME* contacts with that. Is there anyway to delete the contacts off the phone without losing them in my exchange connection? Also, when I add a contact via the phone, I cannot figure out how to get it to sync into exchange.The current sync map I want to move to is:Exchange (work) --> Plaxo.com
Outlook (personal machine) --> Plaxo.com
Eris Droid --> Exchange only That is, if I can figure out how to sync manual entries on my phone to exchange!
So my desire has a 'My Contact Card', and my contacts (gmail contacts synced to phone) also has my gmail contact with all my info. Is it possible to merge these? I cant find a way. Seems silly for the gmail personal contact to be on the phone and for the phone to hold a seperate one (used when i send texts etc?).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI got my contact numbers transferred from my blackberry into my evo. About a week ago I got the low memory space message on my phone. I looked on applications, and it says my contact storage is 313mb!! I counted my contacts and I have about 100. I think 313mb for contact storage is insane. Other people with about the same contacts have about 8 or 9mb of storage used. Was something done wrong when they transferred the contacts?

I have tried to sync my contacts and FB together (not all of my FB contacts as I have 500+) but just the main people I talk to on a regular basis and it has created duplicate entries in my contact list. I know this not an operating hinderance to the phone but it is just annoying.
What is the point of syncing when it just created more entries? It also has duplicates in the drop down to: part when I create a new text message. Should I take all of my contacts off my SIM and copy them to the phone? Is there a way to have one entry for my contacts including the FB pic? I am importing my contacts from hotmail to gmail now and hoping this might help.
Don't know what's going on, but handcent shows every social contact about 20 entries, then it doesn't recognize contacts in my address book. Something really squirrelly is going on. Have I missed a thread about this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter backing up my contacts to google, and synching with it, I now have two entries in my people app for just about every person. It's not a problem in the people app itself, since I have that set to only show google contacts now. The problem is in handcent, as it still shows both entries (phone and google apparently). I've looked in the settings for handcent, but I haven't run across anything for contact lists. Is there any way I can get it to just show one listing per person?
View 27 Replies View RelatedIf I clear the data in the "Contacts Storage" tab of "Manage Applications" will this only delete the data stored on the phone itself or will it also delete the contact on the exchange server as well? I have some contacts that are duplicates because they were put in the phone before I was able to get the exchange sync set up resulting in an entry for exchange and an entry for phone when in the "People" area.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFor the life of me, I can't find a way to search for entries in my calendar other than manually swiping left or right while viewing the day in time grid format. This works of course but it has some obvious limitations. Now I can predict that someone will say, just use the Gmail Calendar. This is because calendar entries input into the Web Gmail Calendar show up in my HTC Hero calendar and the Gmail Calendar has a search option; i.e. so I could go to the Web, open the Gmail Calendar and search for the item there. This method works, of course, but it's kind of double the work and forces me to depend on the web instead of my HTC phone where I'd prefer to search directly inside the default Hero calendar application.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've imported all the contacts from outlook to my mobile without any problem but when I open People they are divided in two alphabetically sorted lists: i have some contacts sorted from A to Z and then the remaining sorted as well from A to Z but this second batch has dividers between contacts starting with different letters.All my contacts are there but it's very annoying to have them divided in 2 lists, any idea how to organize them in a single list?Second problem is that I can't sync new entries in the mobile's calendar with outlook. HTC Sync doesn't see them at all. Any idea how to fis this as well?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am sick and tired of deleting duplicate entries in contacts and calendar. There is no rhyme or reason. I get some contacts duplicated numerous times. I get duplicate appointments and my new ones refuse to link to the PC. I have tried everthing that two weeks of constant googling can come up with. I am sooooooo GD sorry that I purchased this POS phone and from my point of view the Android system is also a POS.
Next time I am going to finally bite the bullet and get an iPhone.
If anyone has something new please let me know what to do. I have deleted ALL contacts in Google. I have deleted ALL duplicate contacts at least a dozen times. The stupid system still adds, at random, duplicate contacts and tasks. The stupid phone has even linked contacts with no reason or input from me. The calendar has put holidays in numerous dates. Columbus day was in the calendar seven times when I did the last cleanup (I have done 3 seperate cleanups today alone). Independence day was put on both July 4th and 5th. When I deleted it from the 5th it disappeared altogether. I thought my old Palm Treo was bad.

On this phone on the SIM card I could store several numbers for each contact/person.I swapped the SIM card into the Desire, and all the first number for each contact is there, but I can find no way to access the other numbers e.g. landline that I had against each contact/person.Does anyone know where I am going wrong?

However, they don't do anything.So if I want to use a different number for a contact (ie home vs cell) I have to actually hit the Rolodex icon and then select the number.I n every other phone I've had one could always select which number to call. Of course there is always the default number chosen when first setting up the contact.So how does one do this from the list in the phone app?
