Nov 9, 2009Just can't seem to figure out how to uninstall stupid applications like footprints that come with the phone. Or at least disable them from ever starting.

Jul 2, 2009I wan't to uninstall applications using my application... I can retrieve the list of packages installed but I don't know how to remove them... I used the PackageManager class, getInstalledApplications() method... I can't find any method like removeApplication() or uninstallApplication().
the only method I saw in this class is the removePackageFromPreferred (String packageName) method... It retrieves a list of preferred packages.. I don't exactly know what preferred packages means or somehow how to retrieve them... I tried to put a package name in the method "removePackageFromPreferred (com.dev5.fivegame)" but it gives an error...

2. The phone came with handcent messaging app which is cool but what is not cool and semi annoying is every time I get a text message it alerts me with the original app and that one. and if i check one the other one does not always clear the alert.

Nov 20, 2010I'm not completely up to date with all the android features as I see a lot of you are as I mostly use the phone for basic multimedia on top of my phones services. I have recently noticed that although I use the advanced task killer to stop apps from running they still continuously turn themselves on and drain my battery. I can't keep watching my phone every second to "kill" them as they pop up. I was wondering if there is another way keep this from happening as there arn't any settings option in these individual apps to stop it or even better. An app to unistall "factory" apps such as MP3 store n so on.

Nov 23, 2009I have an HTC Droid Eris with Verizon. It came installed with several apps that not only do I not use, but that in some cases start automatically. These include Amazon MP3, Footprints, Google Talk, Teeter, and YouTube. I would like to uninstall them, but I am not given that option (like I am for third-party apps) when I go into "Manage applications" in Settings. Is there another way of removing them from my phone?

I've looked through some of the threads that talk about how to uninstall some of this stuff, and I'm at a loss. Is there any way someone can explain how to uninstall bloatware applications in noobtard terms? I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance from your friendly neighborhood noob. Nov 7, 2010I asked this on XDA and no one has replied so far, so I'll give this a shot here. And I thought this was worthy of its own thread cuz I was pretty clueless on where to go.
Ok, so I deleted the following things from my phone using Titanium Backup.
- Korean and Danish keyboards
- Moxier Mail
- Face Recognition
- Creatouch
- User Guide + User Guide Client
- Play Now
- Setup Guide
- TrackID
- everything Timescape (8 files in total) *ok, this seems to have screwed up my camera photos and won't read my SD card pictures or the pictures I had taken (except for 2 photos in total). If anyone has the original 8 files and can hook them up PLUS TUTORIAL ON HOW TO REINSTALL THEM, then that would be AWESOME! For some odd reason, I backed the files in Ti Backup, but they aren't showing anymore...so a heads up for people backing the core default files, be careful what you delete. Or are they stored somewhere else that I'm unaware of?*
Also, I'm really looking to get rid of "Voice Dialer" and "Office Suite". Anyone know if removing it will screw up any function of the phone?

-Bonsi Blast - Greatt game to pass some time
-Advanced Task Killer - Works perfect for me, Ends Applications that are running in the background
-i Music - Best Music app - Allows you to download MP3 for free
-Shaazam - Displays song titles for the unknown - works awesome with i Music
-Sports Tap - has a great widget that allows you to just show your current fav team (i have bruins, shows live game score in widget and also sends alerts during game to your notifcation bar)
I would like to hear what you guys have or think is a useful/great application

Dec 24, 2009I have been reading this forum for a couple weeks and I wanted to get your advice on what mods/apps I should make/install first? A little bit about me. I am a Family Practice Physician Assistant and I also work part time in an ER. I have a few apps on it but rarely use them because it's not all that easy / quick to use. I also have an Ipod touch that I have loaded with medical apps that I will transfer over to my new phone. All of the apps I use seem to be available for Android except for epocrates - but according to their website this is coming "soon" which could mean days or months. I wanted to have ONE device to use medical apps and actually use as a phone/web browser, and since I REFUSE to EVER deal with AT&T, and I really didn't like the keyboard on the droid, the ERIS seemed perfect. And now that Verizon is running a buy one get one free deal, with my $50 credit from Verizon I will be getting BOTH phones for only $49. My wife will probably only use texting and the basic smartphone tools - calender, text etc, so she is pretty happy with whatever. So I ask you experts and tiral and error veterans out there. what apps should I get first? What mods/tricks should I do to the phone first? What has been the best thing you have done with your phone?

Sep 24, 2010I have a stock Eris and the other day my sdcard went corrupted. I learned this from when I got the new swype beta email and went to download the .apk. It told me a sdcard was required (I had never taken the sdcard out of the phone to being with). Anyways I brought it to verizon and the guy said it was done and gave me a 16gb card (8 was in there previously). So now I was able to download the .apk file; however when I try to click on it to install it says I can't because there is not enough space on Phone.
Now I don't know how much for it is required. But I have 14gb on the card available and 25mg on the internal phone storage. Now since uninstalling swype and trying to download I haven't added any more apps that would take up additional space. I've actually uninstalled a few, so I should have more space than I did before this whole thing started.

Jan 23, 2010Is anyone else irked by the proportion of apps that cause force-close on the Eris? About 1 in 3 (maybe more) seem to do this. I assume developers are writing code for 2.0 mostly by now, but still. I would think there had be SOME level of back compatibility. It's not like I'm downloading obscure applications. These are typically highly rated applications found on the bigger review sights and AndroLib. For instance, just today, two WiFi apps and Shuffle both caused my Eris to crash. And apparently something else I haven't determined yet. What are other's experiences/success rates with applications? I'll append this post later with apps known to cause crashes. In fact, until the 2.0 upgrade, it might be a good idea for a sticky.
