We can finally get 2.x applications on our phone. Whats the best ones? "aside from the obvious Google Applications or the ones that are on the phone already."

About 2 days ago all the Google applications on my phone started being very unreliable. The one I use most, Gmail, is constantly restarting. Usually the first time I try to open a message the whole app restarts and then I can open the message, but often it will restart again before I get through the whole thing. There is no error message of any kind, it just restarts. I've had similar, but less frequent, issues with Google Talk and Google Voice that started at the same time. I originally thought it was just that I was out of memory, but I tried killing everything with TaskKiller and it didn't fix anything.
I think the only change I've made to my phone recently is installing Skype and I kind of need it at the moment.
How can I stop Google from restoring the apps I had installed? I wipe my phone and try to start from scratch, but Google keeps re-installing the apps I had installed. I do not check the option during setup to sync that data and I even went as far as uninstalling them all before I did a wipe but they were still reinstalled! How can I stop this from happening?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else irked by the proportion of apps that cause force-close on the Eris? About 1 in 3 (maybe more) seem to do this. I assume developers are writing code for 2.0 mostly by now, but still. I would think there had be SOME level of back compatibility. It's not like I'm downloading obscure applications. These are typically highly rated applications found on the bigger review sights and AndroLib. For instance, just today, two WiFi apps and Shuffle both caused my Eris to crash. And apparently something else I haven't determined yet. What are other's experiences/success rates with applications? I'll append this post later with apps known to cause crashes. In fact, until the 2.0 upgrade, it might be a good idea for a sticky.

I would love to find a way to back up everything and just put all of those things in my new phone without having to do everything over. All the phone gets is e-mail contacts I already have in my phone (e-mail address entered in that contact with their phone info). Some of my contacts are now two times in the phone, once tagged Google and once tagged Phone. How can I merge these contacts? Also, the contacts aren't being synced up to Google, just from Google to the phone.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI just tried one of the phone locater apps (Lost Phone) and it did not work with texting through Google Voice. Can I assume that all such apps will not work texting with GV? I do not have a texting plan and I instructed my carrier to block any SMS. I us GV for all my text messaging. I'm assuming that texts coming through GV don't have the same system level capabilities that these apps need?

I've done a bunch of searching on google and elsewhere on this in the past but have not seem to have found anything on the topic, but it came back on my mind today after making a call.
Almost [anytime?] I am speaking on the phone [with anyone?] I will intermittently get a "touch tone" sound blasted in my ear randomly. At first I thought it may have been because my ear/face was hitting a button on the screen, but this happens even when the keypad is hidden. The other odd thing is that it only seems to happen on MY end, the caller on the other end will *NEVER* hear it when I have asked.
I *do* use google voice for all my calls. I do not know if this happens outside of GV or if it has anything to do with it. Any ideas why this could be, or has anyone run into this issue?
Today it was in my mind because it was happening a LOT (every minute or so) when I was talking to one of my friends. I never took note about it happening more often with her vs. other people or not [honestly, I don't use TALK so much on my phone] but we had a longer conversation today and it kept happening randomly.
It's definitely coming through the headset and not out of the speaker (ie: it will drown out the voice on the other end), and I did disable all touch-tone sounds on the phone. It is the sound you would receive through a regular phone system through the headset, not a chinsy "beep" or something the phone itself would make, it's coming across the "line" but again only I am hearing it.
I just got the htc eris and i am wondering what are peoples top applications. I wanted this phone for the applications and now that I got it I am having trouble finding applications or even thinking of any that I might want to use.

View 11 Replies View RelatedHaving serious issues setting up Google Apps corporate email on my DX. POP and SMTP settings, email add, password all checked and rechecked for accuracy. Still no dice. Am being told by Google Apps support that I need to hard reset the device, setup corporate Google Apps email first, and then reinstall and re-setup everything else. This seems like a hail mary approach to me, and one that I'm still not sure is going to work.

I recently had to do a hard reset on my phone and everything was saved except all of my applications. Is there anyway to back them up so if this happens again it will take me 5 min to get my phone back to how it was instead of an entire day

I am a Family Practice Physician Assistant and I also work part time in an ER. I have a few apps on it but rarely use them because it's not all that easy / quick to use. I also have an Ipod touch that I have loaded with medical apps that I will transfer over to my new phone. All of the apps I use seem to be available for Android except for epocrates - but according to their website this is coming "soon" which could mean days or months. I wanted to have ONE device to use medical apps and actually use as a phone/web browser, and since I REFUSE to EVER deal with AT&T, and I really didn't like the keyboard on the droid, the ERIS seemed perfect. And now that Verizon is running a buy one get one free deal, with my $50 credit from Verizon I will be getting BOTH phones for only $49. My wife will probably only use texting and the basic smartphone tools - calender, text etc, so she is pretty happy with whatever. So I ask you experts and tiral and error veterans out there. what apps should I get first? What mods/tricks should I do to the phone first? What has been the best thing you have done with your phone?

On this calendar I also can view my calendars of other family members.The problem I am having is that I had to create a google account when I bought the phone. However, I can't seem to get my non-google calendar to show up on the phone.I have tried using my new google account to "friend" my non-google calendar account but it's still not showing up.
