1. Is there anyway to uninstall apps that come with the phone. Even if i have to root it?
2. The phone came with handcent messaging app which is cool but what is not cool and semi annoying is every time I get a text message it alerts me with the original app and that one. and if i check one the other one does not always clear the alert.

I have an HTC Droid Eris with Verizon. It came installed with several apps that not only do I not use, but that in some cases start automatically. These include Amazon MP3, Footprints, Google Talk, Teeter, and YouTube. I would like to uninstall them, but I am not given that option (like I am for third-party apps) when I go into "Manage applications" in Settings. Is there another way of removing them from my phone?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI see a few "uninstall apps" on the market and I am wondering why there are such applications. Uninstalling an app from the phone is not that complicated and it is quite fast. Maybe my question is silly but I am very new to Android. I know that Windows for example does not uninstall programs properly, and one needs often a third party program to really make a clean uninstall. Is that the same with Android, or do these apps just make it faster to uninstall an app (with the same result that one will get with a "uninstall" process through the apps manager)?

As I continue to downlaod and try new apps, I notice that some of the permissions that some of them have are/is: "Prevent phone from sleeping". I didn't think much about it, but after conditioning my phone...for a few days I was getting around 11% awake time, now after a few of these apps after a recharge this AM I am showing 26%...before the charge my awake time was very high again. I always use Adavanced Task Killer after messing with the phone, 9/10 trials.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI stepped on my first Eris (don't ask) and had to get a replacement through Asurion. Well, I thought when I got my new phone I would be able to redownload all the apps I had purchased but I cant. The Market wants me to pay for them all again. I guess the market tracks you specifially with your phone, not your account. So I called Verizon, of course they were no help. The chick didn't even try to help, I asked her if I could get those apps back and she stalled for a second like she really didnt know but also didnt want to take the time to find out, then she said NOPE. I was like man, that sucks, she said YEP! That was the end of the conversation. Surely there is a way for me to get these apps back without paying for them again? I know they are inexpensive but when you have 10 or so they start to add up! Not to mention I had my first phone for less than a month and hardly got to enjoy the apps I purchased. I've thought about emailing the dev's but dont know if thats a good approach or not.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone know of any apps that will allow a parent to set a content filter on the Eris so a kid can't access adult themed websites (porn etc)? The subject came up at work and it sounded like something worth looking in to, but the best I could find was a content filter service from Verizon (for free) but it seems that it also prevents Google Navigator, Facebook and YouTube from working properly (they all load just fine, but crazy error codes come up which prevent you from getting any further). Also of note: this only works when using the 3G service, as WiFi has no problems accessing Nav, FB and YT.
