HTC Incredible :: Uninstall Bloatware Applications In Nootard Terms
Jun 15, 2010
I successfully rooted the phone. My main reason (initially) is so I can delete some of the bloatware that came with it. I've looked through some of the threads that talk about how to uninstall some of this stuff, and I'm at a loss. Is there any way someone can explain how to uninstall bloatware applications in noobtard terms? I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance from your friendly neighborhood noob. For the record, I'm technically savvy, I've just never done this before and don't really know where to begin.

I swear, I did a lot of searching before posting... The best resource I found was this: xda-developers - View Single Post - Apps that are OK to remove with root But does that require toast's root method? If so, anyway to uninstall bloatware with the unrevoked root method? Also, could someone link me to or list the apps that cannot be uninstalled.

It seems to be common practice for service providers to bog down their newest phones with bloatware. I've read some information on these forums that seems to indicate that the Evo comes with a lot of sprint programs installed, IE bloatware. I'm a current blackberry user and one of the perks of having one is that I was able to remove all of tmobiles useless, bloatware apps from day one so I could use the phone's memory on programs that I wanted. Now, my question is, is there is a simple uninstall feature that would allow me to unistall programs like sprint tv, sprint nav, etc? Or would I have to root the phone to be able to uninstall those apps?

Really enjoying the new Droid X so far (my first smartphone), but I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of all this horrible bloatware. I cannot even see the apps to uninstall through the settings on the phone, and trying to uninstall them through appbrain just gives an uninstall error. Anyone know if it's possible to remove them?

I just installed appbrain, and it shows bloat like cityID and VZ navigator. It also shows an uninstall option as well. Theoretically, can you Sync with AppBrain, uninstall all that bloat, then perform installs again when you need restore the bloat (for when updating or anything)? Haven't tried this yet but just wanted to see if others have.

Why do ROMS get broken and phones not startup when delete bloatware that we got preinstalled on the phone?
case in point - my friend recently rooted his phone.. the first thing he did was use Titanium Backup to delete some of the preinstalled apps that came with his phone. That broke his phone and he cudnt boot it! (later he got it fixed by flashing the stock ROM again) But why does this sort of thing happen???

I rooted my Captivate tonight and I know how the superuser icon with android skull and crossbones. However neither Super Manager or ASTRO will allow me to uninstall the crap ware on my phone. Is there something I'm missing? I followed all the steps at XDA. So far I've tried to remove YPMobile, ATT Navigator, and ATT Maps. Any suggestions? I tried searching this on google and this forum but didn't come up with anything.

I've been hearing a lot of complaints about the EVO battery. I've played around a lot with a friends Incredible, and while it's doesn't have what I'd call "excellent battery life," it's "decent" in my opinion. With the tweaks one can do on an EVO, will the EVO last as long as an Incredible? Or does the Incredible just blow it out of the water in terms of battery life?

Xperia Neo v2.3.4 Build 4.0.2.A.62
Why I can't uninstall these applications (see the screenshot) that come with the firmware?
After I uninstalled them, but when I reboot the phone. These applications appear in the menu again. How come? This problem happened after I updated to Build 4.0.2.A.62 via Sony Ericsson PC Companion.

I wan't to uninstall applications using my application... I can retrieve the list of packages installed but I don't know how to remove them... I used the PackageManager class, getInstalledApplications() method... I can't find any method like removeApplication() or uninstallApplication().
the only method I saw in this class is the removePackageFromPreferred (String packageName) method... It retrieves a list of preferred packages.. I don't exactly know what preferred packages means or somehow how to retrieve them... I tried to put a package name in the method "removePackageFromPreferred (com.dev5.fivegame)" but it gives an error...

I'm not completely up to date with all the android features as I see a lot of you are as I mostly use the phone for basic multimedia on top of my phones services. I have recently noticed that although I use the advanced task killer to stop apps from running they still continuously turn themselves on and drain my battery. I can't keep watching my phone every second to "kill" them as they pop up. I was wondering if there is another way keep this from happening as there arn't any settings option in these individual apps to stop it or even better. An app to unistall "factory" apps such as MP3 store n so on.

I asked this on XDA and no one has replied so far, so I'll give this a shot here. And I thought this was worthy of its own thread cuz I was pretty clueless on where to go.
Ok, so I deleted the following things from my phone using Titanium Backup.
- Korean and Danish keyboards
- Moxier Mail
- Face Recognition
- Creatouch
- User Guide + User Guide Client
- Play Now
- Setup Guide
- TrackID
- everything Timescape (8 files in total) *ok, this seems to have screwed up my camera photos and won't read my SD card pictures or the pictures I had taken (except for 2 photos in total). If anyone has the original 8 files and can hook them up PLUS TUTORIAL ON HOW TO REINSTALL THEM, then that would be AWESOME! For some odd reason, I backed the files in Ti Backup, but they aren't showing anymore...so a heads up for people backing the core default files, be careful what you delete. Or are they stored somewhere else that I'm unaware of?*
Also, I'm really looking to get rid of "Voice Dialer" and "Office Suite". Anyone know if removing it will screw up any function of the phone?

I am running rooted incredible with 2.x radio, and virtuous' 2.2 ROM. Its working... well, kinda slow... In fact, its lagging (? unhappy face )
I am new to rooting, just started messing with it yesterday. I followed JONAMERICA's site to rooting, reflashing to stock with S-OFF, and going with the manual radio and rom update.
Then, to delete apps I followed his instruction as well, but whenever I type in command prompt "cdsd ools" it says directory not found...
I want to remove voice dialer, news, google search, gmail, and friend stream. I know that Virtuous has a EZcustomizer, but it doesnt remove these apps that I want off.
Also, any ideas as to why its working so slow? Like... it lags when i go from screen to screen, loading apps take a bit longer than when I was on 2.1 last night... once again, slightly unhappy face...
I followed everything else to the letter...
Heres a link to his site, if anyone doesnt know what I'm talking about...Remove bloatware from HTC Droid Incredible 2.2 - Technology - Jonamerica.com

So I finally rooted my phone the other night. Already did a nandroid backup and a Titanium backup. Just installed SetCPU and now its time to remove my bloatware.I have found MANY different ways to remove it posted online, can someone please recommend a simple easy (fool-proof) way for me to remove them? I am not stupid, but I am definitely not technologically inclined - so step by step instructions (or a link to step by step instructions).

The monster Official HTC Incredible Thread is already over 3,000 posts. Predict when you think the HTC Incredible will be released in terms of post count of the Official thread. The group that is closest in predicting the post count of the Official thread when the phone is released will get something special, like the praise of thousands and I don't know... be the first ones to have Nash make them a custom background imageTo make things more fun, the time and date of release of the HTC Incredible will be determined by when the first customer posts his or her pictures of the phone after getting it from the store.

I have not tried it yet, but thinking of going for it, rather than getting rid of the bloat through terminal commands. ADDED: Please read the top of the thread in the link. You will need a 2.X radio and s-off through unprovoked forever edit: new location for it: ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766223. Then again, I may wait for adrynalyne to add usb tether and other goodies.

I want 2.2 but I removed some stock bloatware apps and my froyo OTAs always fail. Can I get the stock bloat apps back by simply doing a revert to factory settings?
I'm worried that a factory reset won't revert them because I theoretically shouldn't have been able to ever remove "system" apps in the first place. I'd like to hope/think that the developers would have this feature as part of a reset but who knows.

I am running a customer Jager ROM and it is great, however I am unable to uninstall some included programs from the ROM? Is this normal? Since being rooted, I thought there was a way to uninstall any program from the phone? For example K-9 mail and mobile defense are built into the ROM. When I try to uninstall them, the option to uninstall them is grayed out? Any way at all to uninstall these programs directly from the phone itself? Any root apps that can make this happen?
