I want to buy the HTC Desire or the Samsung Galaxy S. At the moment I prefer the HTC Desire. It's smaller, feels better and has flash which the Samsung lacks. But when I read the fact that the HTC Desire is very limited in internal memory for installing apps and the fact that you can't transfer a lot of apps to your sd card with the help of the froyo 2.2 update got me thinking again about which phone I should pick. I don't want to buy the phone and later regret that I don't have enough space for apps. That's not the only thing that is bothering me. So I want to ask a few questions.
1: What is the average number of apps you can install on the internal memory (so without SD card) of the HTC Desire if you installed update 2.2?
2: Let's say I use internet 2 hours a day, watch movies, listen to music 2 hours a day and also call people 1 hour and send a few text messages. If I do this everyday will I have to charge my battery everyday or will it last longer?
3: Can you install apple apps on HTC desire?
4: What is the average size of an application?

I wan't to uninstall applications using my application... I can retrieve the list of packages installed but I don't know how to remove them... I used the PackageManager class, getInstalledApplications() method... I can't find any method like removeApplication() or uninstallApplication().
the only method I saw in this class is the removePackageFromPreferred (String packageName) method... It retrieves a list of preferred packages.. I don't exactly know what preferred packages means or somehow how to retrieve them... I tried to put a package name in the method "removePackageFromPreferred (com.dev5.fivegame)" but it gives an error...

I'm not completely up to date with all the android features as I see a lot of you are as I mostly use the phone for basic multimedia on top of my phones services. I have recently noticed that although I use the advanced task killer to stop apps from running they still continuously turn themselves on and drain my battery. I can't keep watching my phone every second to "kill" them as they pop up. I was wondering if there is another way keep this from happening as there arn't any settings option in these individual apps to stop it or even better. An app to unistall "factory" apps such as MP3 store n so on.

Xperia Neo v2.3.4 Build 4.0.2.A.62
Why I can't uninstall these applications (see the screenshot) that come with the firmware?
After I uninstalled them, but when I reboot the phone. These applications appear in the menu again. How come? This problem happened after I updated to Build 4.0.2.A.62 via Sony Ericsson PC Companion.

For 2.2 OTA someday, I know I need to put my bloatware back on. Do I need to uninstall my rooted software apps also, or do they just stop working?

I successfully rooted the phone. My main reason (initially) is so I can delete some of the bloatware that came with it. I've looked through some of the threads that talk about how to uninstall some of this stuff, and I'm at a loss. Is there any way someone can explain how to uninstall bloatware applications in noobtard terms? I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance from your friendly neighborhood noob. For the record, I'm technically savvy, I've just never done this before and don't really know where to begin.

I asked this on XDA and no one has replied so far, so I'll give this a shot here. And I thought this was worthy of its own thread cuz I was pretty clueless on where to go.
Ok, so I deleted the following things from my phone using Titanium Backup.
- Korean and Danish keyboards
- Moxier Mail
- Face Recognition
- Creatouch
- User Guide + User Guide Client
- Play Now
- Setup Guide
- TrackID
- everything Timescape (8 files in total) *ok, this seems to have screwed up my camera photos and won't read my SD card pictures or the pictures I had taken (except for 2 photos in total). If anyone has the original 8 files and can hook them up PLUS TUTORIAL ON HOW TO REINSTALL THEM, then that would be AWESOME! For some odd reason, I backed the files in Ti Backup, but they aren't showing anymore...so a heads up for people backing the core default files, be careful what you delete. Or are they stored somewhere else that I'm unaware of?*
Also, I'm really looking to get rid of "Voice Dialer" and "Office Suite". Anyone know if removing it will screw up any function of the phone?

I thought of a question today which I would like to put out there to see what people do / think. When I see a free application which I like and use if an Advertisement comes up which even vaguely interests me I will normally click on it. This I guess is my way of saying thanks to the dev for not only making the app but for keep it free. Who here uses the Ad's in apps? Do you do it because you know it will help the dev out or just because you where interested in the product the Ad was pitching?

I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm wondering why so many apps are free. Take for example, PandaHome. I installed it and really love using it. But in the back of my mind I'm wondering why this product is free. Part of my concern is PandaHome has access to many key parts of my Android phone, like contacts, etc. Is it somehow tracking / using my data or my use of the phone for some other marketing purposes? They say there's no such thing as a free lunch, so there's got to be a catch somewhere? Why are so many great apps free?

I am getting my first Android phone on monday, and I want to alleviate some of my bill with AT&T, so i was thinking of getting just the talk and 2GB of data a month. But I was wondering if anyone knew how the apps like Handscent send their text messages, and if they do. do you know how much data that takes up each time you send / receive a text? I want to make sure I won't go over my 2GB a month (screw them for not having unlimited data anymore)

So many apps, particularly free ones, seem to get access to things on the phone they don't need. For instance why would a card game that isn't an online card game need access to phone's location? Should I be worried that less than scrupulous folk are putting apps out in the "market"?

I want to make my Android Application look a little bit sexier but as I don't have knack for design I was wondering if there are other themes that are available for importing into your Android app (like the Dark and Light themes that come with SDK)? I do not expect a Theme that would make Android app look like an iPhone app, but anything that would help me move in that direction is a welcome suggestion (and please don't go with "you can create theme on your own").

I already mentioned this briefly in another post as part of another publishing topic.
But I think it is pretty important for a lot of us to know good ways to make free versions that can't be cracked too easily etc. After all most people just download the free stuff, I know I do, so its important for numbers.
I just made a game called ScrollSlider and I want to make a free version with limited evaluation period perhaps, but I could use some advice on how to do it. I'm also having problems with data persistence as views appear and disappear and managing game loop view thread accordingly.

Is there a way to retrieve the free memory, total memory and maximum memory of other applications/processes using my application? I use Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory() but it can only retrieve your current application... If there's somehow a method where I can just input their PIDs or Package Names like "Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory ().packageName" for example.. Here's my code...
