HTC Droid Eris :: How To Turn Off Starting Animations And Sounds?
Jan 12, 2010Is it possible to turn off the sounds when the phone is booting? They are rather annoying when I don't want the phone to be making sounds.

View 2 RepliesAny way to get sounds with animations?
Example: Sounds on startup or sounds with weather animations.
Thunder would be way cool with the clouds/lightning or birds chirping with the sun.
I get these cool little MMS with sound and pics and some with animation. I cannot save or forward these. If I choose to save them it saves them as separate files, sound and pic. I'm using handcent.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am at a stage where I can understand and write a decent Android application. At this stage, I am still not comfortable with SurfaceHolder, Canvas, View invalidate() etc. I don't have a CS background so I must've missed these from a CS Graphics course or something.
Starting directly with Android seemed like a bad idea because there are not many examples out there. And sometimes I am getting things done, but I don't understand what the heck is going on. For instance, there are a few dangling observations. Calling invalidate() from within a view calls its onDraw method but from outside it doesn't do anything and I don't know why this is happening. I know SurfaceHolder can be a powerful thing but I don't know how to use it.
For an absolute beginner to be able to handle this stuff, what are the resources one should follow? Is it animation basics or screen rendering or something else altogether? I mean, it cannot be the case that Android guys invented these concepts right? They must be similar to something out there which has some tutorials already. My end goal is to put myself in a position where I can write some simple custom views that can animate themselves and use some basic physics to react to touch events.
I have seen more than a couple different inquiries (including some by me) on these topics in multiple places in the SF forums and elsewhere. Because of this I figured I would try and collect all the information regarding changing these things and put them into this one thread. If you think I am missing or forgot something, let me know and I can add it in (such as new files, clarification, etc).
Thanks to the respective creators of each file included in this thread. Without you guys we wouldn't even be detailing this process.
DISCLAIMER: This is intended to provide easy step-by-step directions to change bootup and shutdown animations and sounds. I take no responsibility if you screw up your phone attempting to follow these instructions. Read everything carefully.

*Android Scribble 2.0
*Droid Star Wars R2D2
*Android Bios Boot animation
*Windows 7 boot animation
*Spinning droid custom boot animation
*Regular Galaxy S bootup animation
*Droid peeing on apple boot animation (can you confirm this one saps?) (confirmed below)
*Numerous Captivate animations (Stainless steel android, rotating colors android, electric android, etc.)
Here is one sound file (the DROID noise) which is in both formats for bootup and shutdown:
Bootup: DROID.wav
Shutdown: DROID.ogg
Here are some shutdown animations (originally created as bootup animation's from xda user GLa'DOS):
*Android scribble w/yellow color burst (altered by saps)
*Android scribble w/no color burst (altered by saps)
*Android scribble w/green color burst (altered by me)
Another shutdown animation:
*Galaxy S shutdown
PLEASE NOTE: You must be rooted. You must reboot in order for these changes to take effect. You should have Root Explorer (although I am sure there is a way with ADB commands as well though). You may want to create a backup (CWM or the like), just in case. Also, most of the people I have seen do this are running a version of Dirrk's/jt's kernel, which allow boot/shutdown animations to be changed. The kernel you are currently using when attempting to change the animations must allow for them to be changed for this to work.
The file needed to change your boot-up animation should be a .zip file.
I successfully changed my bootup animation by doing the following:
Boot-up animation:
1) download a new boot animation .zip file (I put mine in /sdcard/downloads)
2) open Root Explorer
3) navigate to where you put the new .zip
4) copy the new .zip
5) paste it into /data/local
6) rename it "bootanimation.zip." (if it isn't already)
Also, if you want to change the startup/shutdown sounds:
Startup sound:
1) DL a new sound file
2) convert to a .wav file (using Winamp+.wav converter/iTunes)
3) put on SD card
4) open Root Explorer
5) navigate to /system/etc
6) rename "PowerOn.wav" to "PowerOn.wav.old"
7) navigate to where you placed the DL'ed .wav file
8) copy
9) paste into /system/etc
10) rename it "PowerOn.wav"
Shutdown sound:
1) DL a new sound file
2) convert to .ogg file (I used Winamp+.ogg converter)
3) put on SD card
4) open Root Explorer
5) navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
6) rename "shutdown.ogg" to "shutdown.ogg.old"
7) navigate to the DL'ed .ogg file
8) copy
9) paste into /system/media/audio/ui
10) rename it "shutdown.ogg"
Shutdown animation (DL is above as well): (thanks to saps):

I want to get rid of the sound that plays when you turn on and turn off the phone, and the video too if possible. But I can't find the file on my phone to delete it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to turn down the camera sounds? The double beep when it focuses is annoyingly loud... so loud you couldn't use it to take pictures of your kid if they're sleeping, for example. I could also do without the fake shutter sound, but I can live with that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA text message or e-mail arrives, the notification alarm starts and I have to pull the phone out of the holder, press home to wake up the phone, press menu, then notifications to stop it. That seems like a lot of steps. Is there a setting I am missing to press the volume button or power button the stop the tone? Maybe an application? I know it times out at some point but by then I am sure anyone around me is annoyed at hearing "Check it out" being played over and over.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know what setting I changed or what I clicked, but now I got these clouds and fog animating on the whole screen after I unlock it. Im thinking it has something to do with the weather, because it is cloudy. Im not complaining, its cool im just wondering if its killing the battery faster, because its always doing it on every unlock.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAny way to keep weather animations while using lock bot?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to turn these off? At first they was ok and neat, now there just getitng annoying and I'm getting tired of seeing after every single unlock.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am on my 3rd android phone, and the first thing I do on everyone is turn off all screen animations.
You do this in Menu-Settings-Display- NO ANIMATIONS
Doing this makes opening and closing apps, flinging through screens and many other things much faster.
You'll loose the cool looking transition when coming in or out of an app. But this is well worth it, IMO.
It's all about performance
When I unlock my phone it always shows the annoying HTC weather animations but I can't figure out how to turn them off. It's so annoying. I tried unchecking the option for full screen animations after unlock but it still keeps happening.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOdd question, but I can't figure for the life of me how to turn these off.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got my OTA this morning and very excited. One thing though, I now have the unlock weather animations and don't really want/need them, does anyone know how to turn them off in froyo? I tried the weather app but couldn't find it there.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to turn off the HTC Sense Weather animations? I like the widget, but I don't need it to animate windshield wipers to let me know it's pouring outside. I can see and hear that for myself. The cloud effects also clash badly with my background.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm living in Austin, TX. New to Droid ownership. Just bought an ERIS. My favorite standard feature was the large, Weather Channel animations. However, the rest of the phone was faulty and I had to have it replaced with a "refurbished" phone. Now the large weather animations have disappeared. Puny, smaller animations remain.Does this have something to do with Google's preferences. Can I get the more robust animations back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's hard to say when this happened but I guess I noticed it after the OTA update (not saying that is the reason, just when I noticed it). The weather animations when you turn the screen back on seem different from before. The demo animations aren't the same either, lightning used to cause white flashes, cold used to gradually build up, rain effects lasted longer (I don't even remember fog).
Am I missing a setting change? Was it always this way and my memory just sucks (very possible)? Did it actually change?
I'm starting a blog, and my first article is on swype.I was putting the download links in for themed, lite, and full but I can't find some. If you don't mind, can you tell me what you think of the blog and post the DL links as a comment.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI looked through another thread that was asking the the same question but i didnt seem to find any answers or solutions, so i decided to revisit the problem has anyone noticed that some applications just seem to start themselves up and run in the background? I have the advanced task killer, and this morning i did a reboot of the phone (coming from blackberry storm1, rebooting is just who i am, i do it every 2-3 weeks) and i would expect some applications to start themselves up on a system startup, no problems there. So i open the ATK and i kill any apps that i know i will not be using anytime soon, which is most of them. anywho, after that i literally dont use my phone at all... i lock it and it has been in my pocket since i left the house. yet, just now, i open up my task killer just to check what is running, and my music, my voice dialer, my calender, and a bunch of other applications are just running... whats up with that?
I have read others saying that the apps running in the background dont take up much memory... i call bs... before i kill the excess apps, i notice my free memory (at top of ATK) is around 30mb. after i kill the apps, im back up to 55mb+ so, please, has anyone found a solution to this problem?
When I boot my Eris, I have noticed many unneccesary programs open, some in which I never use at all...I found this information in Advanced Task Manager by the way. How do I disable programs from starting up on my Droid Eris?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI loaded ATK onto 2.1 which tells me that more apps are running than the built in proc manager does. So I killed everything except clock. Put the phone to sleep, and came back an hour later to find that Clock, Voice Dialer, MP3 Store, Settings, Shopper, Google Voice, Mail, Messages, chompSMS, and Handcent are all running.
Now, I have sent/received a few texts, so that'd explain the messages, chomp and handcent (still screwing with figuring out which one I want, but only Chomp is set to notify).
This is the third time I've done this today, so can confirm it's no accident. I have never used the MP3 app, don't even have any music on the phone, so no idea why that or for that matter, Voice Dialer, Shopper, or Mail are even running. I've never launched any of them.
Does anyone know how to turn off the sound when you turn the phone on?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have OTA with root and today i tried to update an app and it never downloads I've tried other apps and I get the same error and i was wondering if any one with the ota is having this problem or if it's just my phone. For me it just gets stuck on starting download.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible or is there an app that will allow me to use different sounds for different notifications? I have 4 different email accounts tied to my phone plus texting. Is it possible to have one tone for Yahoo a different one for GMail another for text messages ect.....? Right now the phone only has one tone for all notifications. Once again, sorry if this has been asked numerous times I'm just looking for a quick answer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOne thing I liked about the Moto Droid was that long 'droid' notification sound. I assume it's a moto thing. But has anyone tried to get that on their Eris? Is that even possible - to use your own sounds for notifications? If so, I wonder what the best way would be to get that sound on the Eris, and keep the fidelity.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know if you could turn off every single sound on the inc. My previous phone, enV touch, still played some sound when u press clear to activate voice commands, even in vibration mode. (the voice that says, "please say a command. Beep") Anyways I don't want to accidentally press something or get a notification that makes a sound. All I want to know is if there's any hidden features that could play unwanted sound, even if the phone is in vibrate. I go to school and my phone will get taken away if a teacher hears it so this is important.
