View 10 RepliesI bought an Eris which I love, but will probably take it back within the 30 days to get an Incredible. Just wondering what's the best way to clear all my info & downloaded apps off the phone so it's back to the way it came in the box?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHi There! I'm new here although I've been lurking for a while. Great info here! So my phone has been super slow, lagging, kicking me out of the internet, no calls when people say they call etc. I talked to Verizon and they want me to do a hard reset. Is this necessary?? It scares me to possibly lose all my stuff. So if I need to do this then what do I need to make sure is backed up??
Would love some help with this b/c my phone is really starting to frustrate me. My husband was in the store yesterday, sent me a txt and when he got back in the car asked me why I didn't respond. By the time I got his text, wrote back and it finally sent he was back in the car! So yeah lagging is such a great thing!
For the noobs What is the difference? And how do you do both?
Understanding how incredibly dangerous this question is, I'd like to know if it is possible to programmatically issue a factory reset, as available in Droid and G1. Does anyone know how this is implemented? Is this implemented using the standard Android SDK, a Motorola-specific function, or something else?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my phone and deleted a few stock apps, all of which were on that list of apps that were okay to remove. I just did a hard rest and now when the phone turns on, it just sits at a black home screen. The only thing i can do it hold down search and search the web, seems like from deleting some widgets it messed things up. Any way i can install a new from or something like that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am on stock motorblur 2.1. Just yesterday the phone started lagging hard. I took the battery out, it wouldn't turn on and would freeze at the M logo. Found out that now it will only boot up if I pop the battery out, put it back in, wait 10 minutes then hit power. My Settings physical key stopped responding period today. and I cant do a hard reset because in order to do that it restarts the phone and it freezes at the M logo. I tried to hit HOME and POWER when turning on but it wont even enter that service menu. It still lags like hell when I get it to even boot. No physical damage or anything. been working for weeks now perfectly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a hard reset this AM due to some sever instability in my Droid. Droid came back up fine after the reset, I activated it and signed in again on my primary Gmail account, added other email accounts, and reinstalled my Apps from the Download section of Marketplace. The only thing that didn't come back is my Contacts...Calendar sync'd to the Droid just fine, but Contacts wont. Tried rebooting the phone, turning contacts sync off and on again, and the sync icon shows for a few seconds next to the "Sync Contacts" checkbox, but none of the contacts sync to the phone. My contacts sync'd to the phone just fine before the reset they are the contacts in my phone's primary Gmail account.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYahoo Mail. Looks pretty but wont download attachments and has no way to log out so there's no way to secure the account. Worst of all it screwed up the on-off switch and incoming calls wouldn't turn the phone on.(how I don't know) and required a hard reset to fix.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis may be a silly question... but I was just wondering. Is a hard reset is a battery pull and is a soft reset a "alt +right shift+delete" ?
View 12 Replies View RelatedLong time Droid user, brand new to the Fascinate Forum. I just bought my wife a Samsung Fascinate and I have to say the thing is absolutely phenomenal! It makes my Motorola Droid look like a 1990's flip phone!! Except for one problem the darned thing has been automatically spontaneously performing a factory reset / hard reset on itself. And it is happening at completely random times. You're sitting there playing a game, you're reading your e-mail or you just pushed the screen ON / power button to wake the phone up and unlock it and then, all of a sudden The phone reboots to the black and white Samsung startup screen, then recovery pops up and yellow writing appears that says "Formatting FOTA:", "Formatting DATA:", "Formatting CACHE:". Then the phone reboots again and comes up like you just pulled it out of the box; a full factory reset / hard reset. The contents of the SD card are thankfully fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to turn on some sort of logging so that maybe I can figure out what causes it? This is now the second phone that this is happening to. We took the first phone back to Verizon the very same day we got it and they swapped it out right there for another brand new one. The second phone behaved perfectly for three whole days before it went and wiped itself. We thought for sure that the problem was with the first phone, but now it is happening with the second phone.I am going to start from scratch again, adding one app at a time making sure the thing continues to work. But there weren't any apps on the device in the first place that were really out of the ordinary.- Gmail POP3 Yahoo- Corporate E-Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server (No, it wasn't the Exchange Admin sending a kill package, I'm the Exchange Admin)
- Angry Birds
- Robodefense
- Facebook
- Beautiful Widgets
- Cal Widget
- Google Maps
- Pandora
I have all of those apps and more on my Motorola Droid (also connected to the same Exchange Server) and my device is behaving just fine.I'm trying to think of reasons this might happen and I'm drawing a complete blank.
Sprint is suggesting a hard reset of my HTC EVO because of a problem I'm having. Can't download pictures that are sent to me via text. Texts themselves come through okay...but the photos do not. Anyway, this particular problem isn't the bottom line issue. It's about the bigger question of whether to start all over or just live with given problems as they come up. The longer I have this device (any Android device I'm guessing), the more inevitable it seems that I'll have to do it sometime. Perhaps multiple times. One gets exhausted researching fix after fix after fix after fix. It seems to me that it will take me a long, long time to get my device back to the way I want it; if I wipe it. Got it June 4th and it seems like I've constantly been tweaking; adding apps, configuring, and such. On the other hand, maybe I'm overestimating what it'll take to get things put back together? What are others' experiences with the reality of a hard reset? Is it as big a nightmare as I fear/suspect?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI uninstalled all my task killers and will be using my phone for awhile without. So far, so good and the phone does run smoother. My main question is concerning the hard reset and when to do one. Does the Linux-based Android get corrupted like Windows when you download lots of stuff, etc? Does it build up? I'm wondering if I should do another fresh hard reset and just start over with all my apps I have now. Now that I've narrowed down the ones I use.

This was b4 a hard reset with ATK downloaded and all of the system updates. This is after a hard reset with no ATK downloaded and no system updates (prl, firmware, or profile). Also did the GSM to CDMA trick with *#*#4636#*#*. Edit: apparently a hard reset doesn't eliminate the update i previously downloaded. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an lg c800 -- mytouch q by lg
I rooted it yesterday and removed all the bloat. I also installed several root only apps to optimize the phone. It ran smoother than even right out of the box.
So, I figured it be a good idea to backup the rom, and maybe later try cyanogenmod... So I installed Rom Manager by clockworkmod
It said i needed to install clockwork recovery rom. I went in there but it said my device was unsupported (only like 12 were) so I backed out, and stupidly hit TWRP listed under "Recovery Already Installed". (thinking that meant what options I had to SETUP a recovery/backup)
I hit backup rom. almost instantly the phone restarted. After the bios, but before android it went to a screen with a box, and an arrow pointing from the inside of the box to the little android man. Then went to the regular android boot screen. It does this every reboot now. The SuperSU is still there, whenever Rom Manager (which I have to reinstall each reboot) asks for root access I get that dialog box, so it hasn't actually hard reset the phone I don't think. But all the user data, contacts, apps, wifi passwords, google id "(to access Play) get wiped out.
I understand what I did wrong. I think I understand what its doing (booting to the factory rom as it was, and I can't set it to stop doing it each reboot)
what I had previously, among other things, I had a bunch of tasker profiles and notes that will be time consuming to replace.
EDIT: SuperSU is now listed among the factory installed apps. This is unchanged each reboot.
Question: If I unroot the phone what that invalidate Rom Managers ability to run before android boots?
i have a lava Etab Z7H. its locked with too many pattern attempts . i tried nearly all combinations to hard reset but none worked . its a android 4.0.3 OS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBeen following the forums closely (particularly Early Mon's post found here: ttp://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-evo-4g/141369-how-fix-froyo.html)I was an early adopter of the 'unofficial' FROYO leak and while i havent had any significant issues (i'd rather wait for fix from HTC) i have suffered from an incredibly leaking battery once its off charge (i use SWITCH PRO WIDGET battery monitor) and it appears that im losing 1% every minute. While i dont mind doing a HARD RESET--its just time consuming reconfiguring some of my apps' settings-I would like to take a less dramatic approach. i know there are proponents on both sides of fence (for HARD RESET and against it) and wanted to know my options.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI did a hard reset yesterday and now my battery life went up the wall. It was draining faster than a rodeo horse before but now its so stable. I got off the charger at 10 am this morning and been actively using. Down to 90 percent now at 5pm. Weird, I guess I had a draining program installed.
