Sprint HTC Hero :: After Hard Reset Phone Working Well
Jun 2, 2010I was having a bunch of issues with crashes, lag, bluetooth, and 100% awake time. And now they're gone. The only thing is - I don't know why. And my past experience with the hero is that issues you think are dealt with, sneak back in when you least expect it. I was experiencing issues even after I wiped my phone, then installed the official Sprint Rom (replacing the leak). Then I hard shut the phone down and was going to hard reset it again. But first, I swapped batteries. Then did a hard reset. Does anyone know if taking the battery out could have had any effect at all? I don't want to start an old wives tale about the phone if there's really no technical reason this should have done anything.
Whatever the case, I've re-installed all the apps I was using before. I've run every single program I could to see if there were any that would crash - and so far nothing has. I had WiFi and mobile network turned out, my bluetooth connected and was using Google Maps without any problems. I have yet to experience the landscape keyboard lag that everyone else is talking about. The phone can still be a bit sluggish here and there - it seems especially when I have my bluetooth headset connected, the phone can take a couple of seconds to make a call when I push on an picture in the "people" widget. But honestly - that seems to be the only complaint I have and I've been pushing the phone really hard trying to replicate old problems or find new ones.

Feb 14, 2010I havent received ANY texts for the past two days. I've uninstalled the latest apps I've installed (Task Killer & Texas Hold Em). I didnt have many installed to begin with and still had 86mb free before uninstalling them. i've restarted and pulled the battery over and over. still nothing. my phone is rooted with Fresh 1.1 and I have the Gumbo kernel. NOW... i'm thinking about trying a hard reset to try and fix this SMS issue. can i backup my phone to where i dont have to do the manual rooting all over again? that kitchen didnt work for me and i really dont feel like running thru all that code again. what all does a backup actually back up?

Jul 7, 2010I did not register my googlemail account on my Hero when I initially set it up but want to do so now. I get the old 'sim card may not be provisioned for data services' error message and have read up that I will have to do a hard reset.
This will wipe out my texts so I want to know is there a way to back them up? I am aware there are utilities in the android marketplace for this purpose but as I cannot sign in to my googlemail account via my phone, I cannot make use of them.
HTC Incredible :: Phone Hard Reset Itself This Morning / Why Is So?
Sep 17, 2010So I woke up to my phone play a ringtone over and over. I couldnt stop the ringtone and it wasnt from an alarm. It was sitting at home screen just playing this ringtone over and over. So I turned the phone off and went back to sleep. When I turned the phone back on after I awoke it hard reset itself and made me start anew. No apps i downloaded, no ringtones or wallpapers except those on my SD card. Luckily I used backup assistant to get my contacts back but wtf?
Has this happened to anyone else? The only app Ive downloaded recently is ourgroceries which I linked with my wife. the phone doesn't change settings, only needed Internet access and something else trivial. I am very very careful with apps I download.
Again, anyone had this issue? Any reason why this happened?

Feb 14, 2010I've searched around the forums to see what happened but none have had any answers. My phone died last night and I charged it and turned it on and it reset itself. All my phone contacts are gone. My apps are gone, but I can just redownload them. I know that I did not hit the reset button combo. Does anyone know what/why this happened? And is there any way to get my contacts back? My phone is rooted with Fresh 1.1 and Gumbo kernel with Set CPU.

Feb 15, 2014Yesterday I was downloading an app from app store (my phone is LG Optimus L9) and suddenly it just displayed a window with only one choice "Restore phone". I didn't do anything for it to show up, it showed up all by itself. I tried press home or back button, I even tried locking the phone, but it didn't work. Jun 18, 2010I am on stock motorblur 2.1. Just yesterday the phone started lagging hard. I took the battery out, it wouldn't turn on and would freeze at the M logo. Found out that now it will only boot up if I pop the battery out, put it back in, wait 10 minutes then hit power. My Settings physical key stopped responding period today. and I cant do a hard reset because in order to do that it restarts the phone and it freezes at the M logo. I tried to hit HOME and POWER when turning on but it wont even enter that service menu. It still lags like hell when I get it to even boot. No physical damage or anything. been working for weeks now perfectly.

Jul 6, 2010Ok, probably been talked about but it's very annoying. I have the 2.1 update and the firmware update that came a week ago. I like that they fixed the keyboard vibrate problem(where it would vibrate long once, and then every other vibration would be half the length) but the lag is still unbearable. How come the iPhone perfected the touch screen and when HTC made the Hero(years later), it comes out worse? I can't type as fast as on an iPhone, nor can I make calls fast enough. Why does it always take so long for the phone to go into "call mode"? Even though I have no programs running in the background it is slow as balls. I'll reset the phone and delete all my text messages. The keyboard is unresponsive for fast typers. I'll tap a button and it will lag and act as if I held it and puts a symbol instead. Anyone else suffer from this problem?

Nov 26, 2010Long time Droid user, brand new to the Fascinate Forum. I just bought my wife a Samsung Fascinate and I have to say the thing is absolutely phenomenal! It makes my Motorola Droid look like a 1990's flip phone!! Except for one problem the darned thing has been automatically spontaneously performing a factory reset / hard reset on itself.And it is happening at completely random times. You're sitting there playing a game, you're reading your e-mail or you just pushed the screen ON / power button to wake the phone up and unlock it and then, all of a sudden The phone reboots to the black and white Samsung startup screen, then recovery pops up and yellow writing appears that says "Formatting FOTA:", "Formatting DATA:", "Formatting CACHE:". Then the phone reboots again and comes up like you just pulled it out of the box; a full factory reset / hard reset. The contents of the SD card are thankfully fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to turn on some sort of logging so that maybe I can figure out what causes it? This is now the second phone that this is happening to. We took the first phone back to Verizon the very same day we got it and they swapped it out right there for another brand new one. The second phone behaved perfectly for three whole days before it went and wiped itself. We thought for sure that the problem was with the first phone, but now it is happening with the second phone.I am going to start from scratch again, adding one app at a time making sure the thing continues to work. To add new ringtones or SMS alerts, connect your Hero to USB and mount the device on your PC. Browser to the following folders:
Ringtones: /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
SMS Alerts: /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
Alarm Alerts: /sdcard/media/audio/alarms
However, I cannot find the media folder. Or maybe I have not even gotten to the sd card! I was able to add wallpapers and actually use them, so I did something right along the way.
So, if anyone wants to help a new android girl with this probably very basic task, please do!
I also synced all my contacts and my calendar from my GMail account. So, not 100% lame.

Sep 25, 2010Sprint is suggesting a hard reset of my HTC EVO because of a problem I'm having. Can't download pictures that are sent to me via text. Texts themselves come through okay...but the photos do not. Anyway, this particular problem isn't the bottom line issue. It's about the bigger question of whether to start all over or just live with given problems as they come up. The longer I have this device (any Android device I'm guessing), the more inevitable it seems that I'll have to do it sometime. Perhaps multiple times. One gets exhausted researching fix after fix after fix after fix. It seems to me that it will take me a long, long time to get my device back to the way I want it; if I wipe it. Got it June 4th and it seems like I've constantly been tweaking; adding apps, configuring, and such. On the other hand, maybe I'm overestimating what it'll take to get things put back together? What are others' experiences with the reality of a hard reset? Is it as big a nightmare as I fear/suspect?
