I imported the contacts from G Mail (just a few e-mail contacts I had). All the phone gets is e-mail contacts I already have in my phone (e-mail address entered in that contact with their phone info). Some of my contacts are now two times in the phone, once tagged Google and once tagged Phone. How can I merge these contacts? Also, the contacts aren't being synced up to Google, just from Google to the phone.

My Facebook contacts are merging with my ICS "People" address book and Google contacts. I don't want this.
I opened the FB app from my Rezound (ICS) and looked at the settings. The "Sync Contacts" option is set to "Don't sync"
Then I looked in the Android Settings --->Accounts&sync--->facebook where there are three boxes, sync calendar, sync contacts, and sync live feed. I made sure all those boxes are unchecked.
I figured I'd just try deleting FB from my Rezound but it seems to be undeletable if that's a word. It's like standard bloatware that I actually use on occasion.
So why are my FB contacts still merged with my Google contacts? I am seeing my contacts with their FB photo and this drives me crazy. I don't want FB communicating with my address book. Gingerbread didn't do this.
is there any app that merge contacts of fb. tweeter, LinkedIn to google contacts, so that just we sync the google contacts, not individual?

I don't want to do the .csv backup and all that just sync all Phone and Google contacts to Google. The reason is because when Verizon transfers your numbers, they get saved as Phone contacts but from what I understand,the update only re-syncs your Google contacts.So is there a quick/easy way to do this?She is not very tech-savvy.I just want to make sure she does this before she upgrades,so she doesn't lose all of her phone numbers.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI like how the phone allows you to link the contacts between the different platforms (Moto lur, Google, face book, twitter, etc) I have been slowly doing that with my contacts, and it's nice having all the information and updates for one contact in one place. My question is.. where is this "linking information" stored? If I get a new phone, will they still be linked? Am I wasting my time by linking all these contacts?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out why my text message 'conversations' are merging so that they get lumped under one main 'person'?
I've only had the phone a couple days, so not a ton of messages yet. But a couple of times now, all messages have gotten 'lumped' together under one user, regardless of who they are received from or sent to.
The first time it happened, I cleared the entire thread. But now it's happening again. Even forwarding a message to someone else gets included in the same thread.
But it seems as if the messages are going to the right people, not sure. The problem is hitting 'reply'. Not sure who will get it.
Last night I downloaded the Handcent SMS client, and am using that now (disabled the notifications, etc., in the default SMS client). The HTC SMS widget seems to work OK with the Handcent client thankfully, but it is only showing the last 'conversation' of a long thread. So not sure if it's a default message app issue or not.
Coming from my i Phone, and after my new Evo 4G pulled in all my face book info, I had quite a few double, triple, and even quadruple contacts. What to do? When I went to my Google apps contact page, I saw that I can merge them there! Very easy to select the contacts, click merge, and then it gives you a preview of the merged info.

I also synced with the Gmail contacts and slowly I'm merging them. how the hell do I export the contacts to a new fresh CSV as I make changes on the phone? Does Motorola want me to use Motoblur forever? They don't have an export feature anywhere on their site.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I got my phone replaced the guy at the verizon store didn't wait long enough for my phone to sync contacts, so he took the contacts from the old phone and put them on my new one, then google synced my contacts so I had 2 of them all. I went through and deleted all the doubles, tried to sync a few times and gmail wouldn't change, so I went to gmail and merged all the doubles so everything was perfect, but my phone wouldn't sync the contacts from gmail. So finally I just manually added the ones I needed to my phone.
A few days later gmail finally updated and now has half my normal contacts(only what was on my phone). I saved a backup of my old contacts from gmail, so I can get all my contacts back on my gmail account, but how do i make it so my phone get the contacts from gmail? Basically I want to delete all the contacts on my phone and save the ones from gmail on it, but it seems that the phone is "in charge" by that I mean gmail copys what contacts are in the phone, instead of the phone copying from gmail.
When I try to sync my contacts with Google it always says an error with sync, something like sync is down. My calendar syncs fine but my contacts have never been able to sync since I had my phone in November.

The other day it drained my battery while at work. I have had to stop it manually or it will just keep trying to sync. When I try to manually sync it through Setting it still says it's 'currently experiencing problems'.

However she now needs to return the phone for service (silent call bug) and she went to G mail to ensure all her contacts was backed up... they are not. It seems the contacts are stored on her phone (Eris) and not in g mail. How can we import all of her contacts from the phone memory into G mail?
View 2 Replies View RelatedGo to menu>settings>applications>manage applications>contacts storage and then delete the data. I backed up my Google contacts on line first by exporting the file just in case. (Not a bad idea anyway, this way you'll have an Excel database with all your contact in case anything should ever happen to your phone). Then resync. It will all go back in without a problem.
I noticed that the file is about 1/2 the size now and I think that's because I didn't sync up all the Facebook data back yet (no photos matching to people, etc.). but I think I'll make sure it all syncs continuously again first, then try adding back in the Facebook info. So far two of the problems were solved by deleting old data (I didn't want to do a factory reset after getting 2.1 just where I wanted it except for the few glitches).
I have a long list of Google Contacts and only want to sync a subset of them to my Droid Eris. So, I created a "Phone" group in Google Contacts. Then on my Droid Eris (back when it was running 1.6) I was able to go "People" -> "Groups" -> "Menu" (or something like that) and select the "Phone" group as the only group from Google Contacts that would sync with my Droid Eris. Worked perfectly.
Now, after the 2.1 update I no longer have that option! I thought, "Maybe the option controls migrated somewhere else." I tried going "Menu" -> "Settings" -> "Accounts & Sync" -> "Google" and found nothing there as well. How can I just sync the "Phone" group from my Google Contacts with my Droid Eris which is now running 2.1?
Whenever I sync my Google Contacts, I lose my Favorites on my phone. How can I fix this?

I currently use an Apps account and a regular account both with a myname@mydomain.com login. Once I got the hang of which services used apps vs, regular vs. both (and how to tell which one I was using for what), this seems to work OK on the desktop. But on Android certain services like Checkout seem to only work with @gmail.com accounts. I wonder if this change will make things more or less confusing on Android.

Usually this was just intermittent, and a restart would cure it.On June 10, it was happening, and persisted despite restarts, battery pulls, etc. I finally found that the problem was google trying to sync contacts. It was having some problem and cycling forever. When I unchecked the google contacts sync in the accounts preference panel, problem stopped. My battery life has never been better. Routinely getting 18-20 hrs or more.BUT I want to sync my google contacts! Every time I trial re-checking that box, it cycles and cycles, every few seconds giving a little error at the bottome of the screen (in prefs) "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".I have 700-something contacts (Only 250 real "My Contacts" but another 500 or so auto-created contacts from gmail use.Presumably one of those entries has some corruption, but I can't figure out which, and I don't want to potentially lose all the contacts.I have seen that for some people this was fixed by factory reset and resync, but then the problem came back a few weeks later.
Here me out for a minute. I think it's great that I can have my contacts all safe and backed up to my gmail account. However, when I use my gmail e-mail, and I send an e-mail...it automatically adds them to my contacts.
Am I weird for wanting my phone JUST to have peoples numbers in my contacts? I don't need people's phone numbers who live in England, because I'll just e-mail them if i need to ask them anything. Maybe I'm just old school and so used to my non-smart phone.
Anyway, I want to put my contacts onto my SD card and have People read from that. Is that possible to do?
The thing I'm scared of doing is that IF i unclick sync google contacts, all the contacts on my phone disappear. Did this one before by accident.
So I realized last night that if you make a group in Contacts, that group is created on the Phone Contact List, not in your Google Contacts, and those contacts are then copied to the Phone Contact list. Thus, you can add all the contacts you want to the Phone Contact list, which has the side effect of being able to use the Verizon backup app to make a backup of your contacts.Kind of pointless, but might be useful to people who want to change their default Google account for whatever reason and get some crucial contacts back after a hard reset using Verizon's MyBackup.

I have searched but I wanted to ask specific to DX to make sure I wasn't missing something simple. Google Contact Groups don't appear in my contacts on the DX regardless of sync. One of the group names I created did transfer over and Organization name.
I cannot sort the contracts by group on my phone. I either have all or none. Did I do something wrong (most likely yes, this was much easier in the BB world)? Am I missing a step, this appears to be a problem on all Android OS. So do I need an app to fix this?

verizon back-up sucks so I'm trying to do it with google.
Nothing seems to be working, so I figured I would give this a shot. I have a new Droid 2 from Verizon and it is a Motorola phone. ALL my Google contacts have been dumped on the phone. I have already verified that is ALL contacts, not just "My Contacts" and there doesn't seem to be any way to get it to just My Contacts.
I tried creating a group in the GMail contacts list for just the phone numbers I wanted, but there is zero way to get to that list. The only options I have when I open up Contacts in terms of filtering is All Contacts/Google contacts/Phone contacts. (The latter has no contacts in it because I prefer to have my phone numbers synced as a backup.)
My contact list is so large that when I go to text someone or pull up the contact list, it takes about five minutes for the list to propagate. All I want is my own user-defined list -- and have NO other contacts on the phone (not just filtered out, although I would take that, but not existing, period). The GMail app would be able to find any other contact anyways, so I don't need it in the actual phone book. I've looked everywhere on Google and it seems like no solutions out there seem to exist for me. All I want is to limit my contact list. I used to have Facebook and Twitter under Social Networking as well, but that just made my contacts list even worse so I got rid of those. Ideally I would like to get these back as well and just have them leave my contacts list alone.
I use Outlook/Exchange as my primary contact database, so I only wanted to sync my DX with Exchange for contacts. However, before I was able to get to my Google account settings on the X to tell it not to sync Google contacts - it had already synced them. Now, my contacts are a mess because of the damn "linked profiles", so practically every contact has some trash from my unmanaged Google contacts. Old email addresses, dupes, mislabled phone numbers (work, home, etc.) It's ugly and frustrating, since I keep my Exchange contacts perfectly edited and managed.
My problem is that I can't figure out how to delete the Google contacts from my DX other than doing it one at a time. (Since I have over 1500 contacts, that would be a huge pain.) Is there any way I can purge these? I'm a power Gmail user, so I can't just delete the entire Google account. (Not sure that's possible anyway.)
When I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
how google accounts work. I got a phone previously owned by a family member and all his contacts are still in the phone. I was wondering if it is possible to delete all the contacts on the phone but not affect his google account contacts? Also, if i reformat the phone, will this delete all his google contacts?
