Before I do the system update I wanted to changed my "phone" contacts to google. I read on here yesterday that you should do that but I can't find the thread. How do I change the few that say phone?

I did my update manually earlier today without any problems (all of my contacts were Google).I have a question for my sister's though:How do you convert all of your Phone contacts to Google contacts? I don't want to do the .csv backup and all that just sync all Phone and Google contacts to Google. The reason is because when Verizon transfers your numbers, they get saved as Phone contacts but from what I understand,the update only re-syncs your Google contacts.So is there a quick/easy way to do this?She is not very tech-savvy.I just want to make sure she does this before she upgrades,so she doesn't lose all of her phone numbers.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI imported the contacts from G Mail (just a few e-mail contacts I had). All the phone gets is e-mail contacts I already have in my phone (e-mail address entered in that contact with their phone info). Some of my contacts are now two times in the phone, once tagged Google and once tagged Phone. How can I merge these contacts? Also, the contacts aren't being synced up to Google, just from Google to the phone.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBefore the OTA I was able to select which apllication was used when the large "phone" button was pushed on the homepage. I think what used to happen was that when you downloaded a new phone dialer and then pressed the phone button the first time you were given an option as to what app you want to use for this action. Once you chose an app it was always activated when you pressed the phone button. I don't see this happening anymore.
View 7 Replies View Relatedim just wondering if im doing something wrong, i did the syncronization stuff in the settings and have forced contacts on the only thing i can think of is when i created the contacts on the phone there was a pull down box that said "google" or "phone".well i selected "phone", is this the problem? if so, how can i change it to 'google'? View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I got my phone replaced the guy at the verizon store didn't wait long enough for my phone to sync contacts, so he took the contacts from the old phone and put them on my new one, then google synced my contacts so I had 2 of them all. I went through and deleted all the doubles, tried to sync a few times and gmail wouldn't change, so I went to gmail and merged all the doubles so everything was perfect, but my phone wouldn't sync the contacts from gmail. So finally I just manually added the ones I needed to my phone.
A few days later gmail finally updated and now has half my normal contacts(only what was on my phone). I saved a backup of my old contacts from gmail, so I can get all my contacts back on my gmail account, but how do i make it so my phone get the contacts from gmail? Basically I want to delete all the contacts on my phone and save the ones from gmail on it, but it seems that the phone is "in charge" by that I mean gmail copys what contacts are in the phone, instead of the phone copying from gmail.
When I try to sync my contacts with Google it always says an error with sync, something like sync is down. My calendar syncs fine but my contacts have never been able to sync since I had my phone in November.

The other day it drained my battery while at work. I have had to stop it manually or it will just keep trying to sync. When I try to manually sync it through Setting it still says it's 'currently experiencing problems'.

However she now needs to return the phone for service (silent call bug) and she went to G mail to ensure all her contacts was backed up... they are not. It seems the contacts are stored on her phone (Eris) and not in g mail. How can we import all of her contacts from the phone memory into G mail?
View 2 Replies View RelatedGo to menu>settings>applications>manage applications>contacts storage and then delete the data. I backed up my Google contacts on line first by exporting the file just in case. (Not a bad idea anyway, this way you'll have an Excel database with all your contact in case anything should ever happen to your phone). Then resync. It will all go back in without a problem.
I noticed that the file is about 1/2 the size now and I think that's because I didn't sync up all the Facebook data back yet (no photos matching to people, etc.). but I think I'll make sure it all syncs continuously again first, then try adding back in the Facebook info. So far two of the problems were solved by deleting old data (I didn't want to do a factory reset after getting 2.1 just where I wanted it except for the few glitches).
I have a long list of Google Contacts and only want to sync a subset of them to my Droid Eris. So, I created a "Phone" group in Google Contacts. Then on my Droid Eris (back when it was running 1.6) I was able to go "People" -> "Groups" -> "Menu" (or something like that) and select the "Phone" group as the only group from Google Contacts that would sync with my Droid Eris. Worked perfectly.
Now, after the 2.1 update I no longer have that option! I thought, "Maybe the option controls migrated somewhere else." I tried going "Menu" -> "Settings" -> "Accounts & Sync" -> "Google" and found nothing there as well. How can I just sync the "Phone" group from my Google Contacts with my Droid Eris which is now running 2.1?
Whenever I sync my Google Contacts, I lose my Favorites on my phone. How can I fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, like many of you, my phone would occasionally get hot, and the battery would just zoom down to nothing. Usually this was just intermittent, and a restart would cure it.On June 10, it was happening, and persisted despite restarts, battery pulls, etc. I finally found that the problem was google trying to sync contacts. It was having some problem and cycling forever. When I unchecked the google contacts sync in the accounts preference panel, problem stopped. My battery life has never been better. Routinely getting 18-20 hrs or more.BUT I want to sync my google contacts! Every time I trial re-checking that box, it cycles and cycles, every few seconds giving a little error at the bottome of the screen (in prefs) "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".I have 700-something contacts (Only 250 real "My Contacts" but another 500 or so auto-created contacts from gmail use.Presumably one of those entries has some corruption, but I can't figure out which, and I don't want to potentially lose all the contacts.I have seen that for some people this was fixed by factory reset and resync, but then the problem came back a few weeks later.
Here me out for a minute. I think it's great that I can have my contacts all safe and backed up to my gmail account. However, when I use my gmail e-mail, and I send an e-mail...it automatically adds them to my contacts.
Am I weird for wanting my phone JUST to have peoples numbers in my contacts? I don't need people's phone numbers who live in England, because I'll just e-mail them if i need to ask them anything. Maybe I'm just old school and so used to my non-smart phone.
Anyway, I want to put my contacts onto my SD card and have People read from that. Is that possible to do?
The thing I'm scared of doing is that IF i unclick sync google contacts, all the contacts on my phone disappear. Did this one before by accident.
So I realized last night that if you make a group in Contacts, that group is created on the Phone Contact List, not in your Google Contacts, and those contacts are then copied to the Phone Contact list. Thus, you can add all the contacts you want to the Phone Contact list, which has the side effect of being able to use the Verizon backup app to make a backup of your contacts.Kind of pointless, but might be useful to people who want to change their default Google account for whatever reason and get some crucial contacts back after a hard reset using Verizon's MyBackup.

I have searched but I wanted to ask specific to DX to make sure I wasn't missing something simple. Google Contact Groups don't appear in my contacts on the DX regardless of sync. One of the group names I created did transfer over and Organization name.
I cannot sort the contracts by group on my phone. I either have all or none. Did I do something wrong (most likely yes, this was much easier in the BB world)? Am I missing a step, this appears to be a problem on all Android OS. So do I need an app to fix this?
Has anyone figured out a way to print google contacts with all phone numbers?
I see how to print them all one one sheet but it only print one phone number for each contact. some of my contacts have several phone numbers asigned.
verizon back-up sucks so I'm trying to do it with google.
I've got a new phone, and both it and my old one show up on Google Play, with the tabs showing the respective apps installed.The old one is rooted, and I want to let my son use it on his own GMail ID. I've no problem resetting it or loading a completely new ROM.
Is there a proper procedure for dissociating it from my GMail ID and adding it to his. I have a suspicion that if I just change the associated email address in the Google Play settings on the phone, it will still appear on my list of devices.
Nothing seems to be working, so I figured I would give this a shot. I have a new Droid 2 from Verizon and it is a Motorola phone. ALL my Google contacts have been dumped on the phone. I have already verified that is ALL contacts, not just "My Contacts" and there doesn't seem to be any way to get it to just My Contacts.
I tried creating a group in the GMail contacts list for just the phone numbers I wanted, but there is zero way to get to that list. The only options I have when I open up Contacts in terms of filtering is All Contacts/Google contacts/Phone contacts. (The latter has no contacts in it because I prefer to have my phone numbers synced as a backup.)
My contact list is so large that when I go to text someone or pull up the contact list, it takes about five minutes for the list to propagate. All I want is my own user-defined list -- and have NO other contacts on the phone (not just filtered out, although I would take that, but not existing, period). The GMail app would be able to find any other contact anyways, so I don't need it in the actual phone book. I've looked everywhere on Google and it seems like no solutions out there seem to exist for me. All I want is to limit my contact list. I used to have Facebook and Twitter under Social Networking as well, but that just made my contacts list even worse so I got rid of those. Ideally I would like to get these back as well and just have them leave my contacts list alone.
I use Outlook/Exchange as my primary contact database, so I only wanted to sync my DX with Exchange for contacts. However, before I was able to get to my Google account settings on the X to tell it not to sync Google contacts - it had already synced them. Now, my contacts are a mess because of the damn "linked profiles", so practically every contact has some trash from my unmanaged Google contacts. Old email addresses, dupes, mislabled phone numbers (work, home, etc.) It's ugly and frustrating, since I keep my Exchange contacts perfectly edited and managed.
My problem is that I can't figure out how to delete the Google contacts from my DX other than doing it one at a time. (Since I have over 1500 contacts, that would be a huge pain.) Is there any way I can purge these? I'm a power Gmail user, so I can't just delete the entire Google account. (Not sure that's possible anyway.)
When I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
how google accounts work. I got a phone previously owned by a family member and all his contacts are still in the phone. I was wondering if it is possible to delete all the contacts on the phone but not affect his google account contacts? Also, if i reformat the phone, will this delete all his google contacts?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe 'People' widget has all my phone contacts that I synced with Gmail. The 'Phone' contacts are everyone I have as a friend on Facebook. I do not want all my FB friends showing up in the 'Phone' contacts and there does not appear to be a way to delete them. In other words, there are "friends" I have on FB that I have no desire to call and I just don't want them in my phone. Is there any way to make the 'Phone' contacts match the 'People' widget?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid.When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:
1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?
2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid.
