Android :: Review Applications In The Same Way?

May 18, 2010

We are looking for a few people to post one or two or however many they want application reviews. Basically all we ask is that you review an application in the same way that we do and in return you can place a link to your blog, website, forum etc (as long as its appropriate or linked to a competing application reviewing site). You can review any application as long as your not bias and own the application. We get thousands of visitors and so it is good exposure for you and your website.

Samsung Captivate :: Applications Review Thread

Jul 21, 2010

I thought it might be useful to create a thread to suggest apps in. The nature of the forums will determine if this is a good idea or not by whether it gets stickied or buried. I'm new to Android and we're all new to the Captivate (sans Galaxy S owners). I suggest that we keep to 4 simple posting guidelines to make this thread as useful as possible. You can add material, but give us these as a minimum guideline. If you can, update your post if your experience changes after you post. 1. 1 app per post. The idea is to give a single post that gives at least a basic review of a given app. Not a 10 thread "discussion". just a single post. Please dont repeat app reviews. We can start a thread for individual apps. 2. Please only review apps you have personally installed and used a bit. Not "some guy you know", not "this friend of mine", not even "I knew this alien once who...". Personal experience, with the app, on this phone only. 3. Please avoid commenting on other posts. By definition, this isnt a "right or wrong" thread and if the posting rules are followed, at least 1 person had those actual, literal results. 4. If you can give a very brief description of what type of user you are (heavy, lite, etc) and what kind of environment you're in most of the time (Inside office, driving, etc), this will help others adjust your experiences based on their environment and usage.

HTC Magic :: Google Voice App Review?

used to have an iPhone and the lack of google voice as an app caused me to sell it.I'm currently thinking about getting an Android, but haven't been able to find any information on the web about how the google voice app actually works on the droid...is it like the GV Dialer for the iPhone where you call the number from the app and then google calls you back etc.? Does anyone know of any video reviews of the app.I haven't been able to find any.

Android :: Phone Locater Applications With Google Voice

Aug 11, 2010

I just tried one of the phone locater apps (Lost Phone) and it did not work with texting through Google Voice. Can I assume that all such apps will not work texting with GV? I do not have a texting plan and I instructed my carrier to block any SMS. I us GV for all my text messaging. I'm assuming that texts coming through GV don't have the same system level capabilities that these apps need?

HTC :: Desire Review From A First Time Smart Phone Buyer

May 31, 2010

Well, this is my first post and as the title states i finally took the step to buy a smart phone and the old Nokia 6120 classic is headed for the drawer.I was tossing up between the Iphone and the HTC Desire. Not really wanting to be an Isheep and after reading all the good reviews of the Desire on the net i decided to go with it. First up i'll address the main point i was worried about..... battery life.
All the people saying they get less than a day with theirs made me worry. But after thinking about my usage compared to others i decided it would hopefully be fine. After getting mine about 5 days ago and charging it up overnight i can say that i didn't really have anything to worry about got through my first day (Friday) with a couple of phone calls, played around with it for half an hour at lunchtime, then probably another hour or two of constant use when i got home playing with the settings, widgets etc. It then continued trucking on till the following day (Saturday) where i played around for another hour or so in the morning until about 11am when it started to get low. That was when the battery warning came up on the screen. So i got about 30 hours out of it on the first charge and by the sounds of some other posts this will get a bit better. Without all the time messing around with the new toy and the battery settling in id say i'll be getting at least 2 days without a charge in the future. I realize other people use theirs a whole lot more at work but i have a radio in my car i listen to on the way to work so no mp3 needed and a phone in the office i use, but if your like me and just a casual user to make a few calls and send a few texts, check the weather out and surf the net a bit it will be fine. I realize that im not using it to its full potential, but thats fine with me. Code...

Android :: Google TV Applications?

Sep 4, 2010

I've seen a few preview videos of Google TV pop up on the internet. I noticed they contained several apps such as GameTime and the Weather Channel. I was wondering how this is possible since there's no API yet and no announcement of one from Google.

It's going to make awfully difficult for people to compete with companies such as the Weather Channel if they're being given special treatment from Google by getting the ability to launch on the device. I really hope this isn't the case.

Android :: Authenticate Of Google Applications If User Is Using?

Feb 10, 2010

way I can Authenticate a Google Apps User in a Android Application? One approach I know of is to take could take their username and password in a android view, and use the clientLogin interface (http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/AuthForInstalledApps.html). However I was wondering if there was a different approach, maybe pushing to a browser window where it would show the google login for that domain, but I would not know how to get the details back to the application, after the authentication is done.

Android :: Google Applications Premier And ActiveSync

May 5, 2010

I have been trying to setup (without success) the Activesync facility between my two android phones and my google apps premier. Everything is fine right up until I finish the activesync set up and it asks for the current password and to replace it with a new one. I do not have any passwords set up on the phone and the only password is the password for the mail that is already entered. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this problem and if there is a 'fix' I have tried all of the options including it to force a password and it will not connect. In case you are wondering Gmail works fine, I want Activesync for the other account so I can view two calendars.

Android :: Can Use Google Applications Account In Gmail Application?

Nov 16, 2009

So the one factor that will decide if I will buy the Droid or not, is if I can use my Google Apps standard addition gmail address, ie hikingfan@your-group.com, with the native gmail and google calendar applications on the Droid. Does anyone know if this is possible and whether it works well or not? Are there any other limitations to using a Google Apps account on the Droid, like access to the marketplace? Thank you so very much, I desperately want to use the Droid for my work phone but I want to make sure that I can actually do work on it.

Android :: Can't Buy Applications Because Google Accounts Poorly Designed

Dec 11, 2009

My main Google account is a "Google Apps For Your Domain" (GAFYD) account. I have my Gmail, Calendar, etc. on this account. Unfortunately, GAFYD doesn't include Google Voice. Following the Google recommended method, I set up a regular Google Account for Google Voice (see here: Using your Google Apps address with Google Voice - Google Voice Help) that has the same username (but remains a distinct account). I do not have Gmail on this account because that would create issues. I set my phone up with my GAFYD account, as per this link: Android and G1 Forums, Mods, Hacks, News, Downloads, Skins, Themes, and more! | ModMyGphone - View Single Post - Primary Google Account in conjunction with Google Apps Account on Android Phone

Most functionality is there. In particular, Google Voice works with Gizmo and Sipdroid. However, there are some problems. Here's a thread discussing some of them: Anyone else having issues with your Google Apps for Domains account on the Droid? - Google Mobile Help

1. Cannot buy paid apps in the market.
2. Unable to use my maps layer in maps app.
3. Cannot login to google finance app.

I want to solve problem #1 - Cannot buy paid apps in the market. Many people are solving it by using another regular Gmail account. However, that's not working for me. I do have another regular Gmail account and I have been using it on my desktop computer for Check Out. However, Android on my Motorola Droid will not accept this account. I assume because it uses the same username as my GAFYD account (which is the way Google recommended doing it!). I have all my purchase history and credit card info in that account already. Creating YADGA ("yet another d*** Google account") is not an option.

Android :: Transferring Paid Applications To New Google Account?

Mar 21, 2010

Something happened that should've never happened and now I have to make a new google account and try to rebuild everything. Gmail, igoogle, voice, etc. I did some poking around, but it seems no one has ever asked about any way of transferring paid apps from one google account to another. Is this possible, or am I now $20+ in the hole on apps I can no longer use on top of everything else that has happened? For some reason, google flags things that the built-in search can't catch. Android :: Google Applications Email With Gmail Application Setup?

Aug 29, 2010

I have read through the threads here and I know this is theoretically possible, but I can't get it to work. I have my Google apps email configured through the regular email app and set to push my email, but it doesn't actually push. I thought I'd try it with the GMail app, but I can't get it set up. When I try to configure it as a Google account, it says it "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" even though my data signal is fine. This happens both on 3G and WiFi.

I had read to add the account as a Google account, using my full username@mydomain.com as the login and my password, so that's what I've been trying. I can't find anything that works for me on here, and the stuff on Google is really outdated and just sends me to the mobile website.

Android :: How Secure Google Checkout For Applications That Access Gmail?

Sep 19, 2010

Would appreciate some comments on whether our Google Checkout is vulnerable when downloading and using apps that request your gmail authentication details e.g.
RSS readers that uses your Google Reader
SMS backup apps that back up to your Gmail account
Picasa photo related software that needs access to your gmail

I was thinking over this weekend that it seems to me that if we supply these apps with our gmail credentials they potentially have the ability to also hack our Google Checkout which doesn't have any secondary level of security other than our Gmail account username/password!

HTC Droid Eris :: Google Applications Very Flaky

Apr 16, 2010

About 2 days ago all the Google applications on my phone started being very unreliable. The one I use most, Gmail, is constantly restarting. Usually the first time I try to open a message the whole app restarts and then I can open the message, but often it will restart again before I get through the whole thing. There is no error message of any kind, it just restarts. I've had similar, but less frequent, issues with Google Talk and Google Voice that started at the same time. I originally thought it was just that I was out of memory, but I tried killing everything with TaskKiller and it didn't fix anything.

I think the only change I've made to my phone recently is installing Skype and I kind of need it at the moment.

Samsung Captivate :: Google Applications Premier Integration

Jul 31, 2010

I'm looking to pick up a Captivate in the next couple days out of contract, hoping an Android phone will give me better Google Apps Premier integration compared to my BB 9700. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info on Premier users and Android phones, but I'm trying to figure out if the 2 really play well with each other or not. Does anyone here have any experience with this? I've read on a few places that the only way people are getting good integration between phone and Premier is when they use their Premier email to initially set up their phone (which would then become the account holding Marketplace purchases). I don't want to do this since my Premier email is my work email, and I don't want to tie personal purchases (apps in the marketplace) to a work email address I won't own forever.

Has anyone successfully added their Premier email account After they've configured their phone with a default email account? (if that makes any sense). Ideally, I'd like to have my Captivate set up with my personal gmail account by default. Then I'd like to set up my work email (Premier). I'm hoping that if I do this, I'd have my calendar and contacts syncing to my phone from BOTH my personal and work email. Is this something that seems viable? I started looking into Android phones thinking Google Phone to Google Mail would have flawless integration, but haven't found any evidence of that so far.

HTC : Android Market / Way To Review App On Web

I know you can get to the android market via the app on your phone and search through them all. There has to be an easier way to review the apps on the web I have looked at adrolib.com and I know of android.com/market where you can see the most popular. What I am wondering, is there a web site that lists all of them that are on the android market on your phone to look at? It would be faster to look at the apps on my computer than using the slower speed of my phone.
