Mar 6, 2010I noticed that when I am lookinh at google map (satellite or normal), when I turn the phone the map will not stay to point to the same direction. It turns with the phone. Is this the way it should be?
I also downloaded the Compass application. and it behaves kind of wierd: holding the phone horizonally, I turn around. The compass should keep pointing to the north regardless how I turn. Mine is all over the place. If I point the phone to NE, it does show the N direction but when I try to turn the phone to point to the North it goes all over the place.
This is regardless GPS on or off. I am still at 1.5...

Nov 16, 2009I'm just wondering if this is normal: I can go into an app like Google Maps and drop down into street view with the compass view enabled. I'll see that the view will really only point one way and jerk around that one direction as I move it around. I'll then calibrate the compass using the figure 8 method and then street view will work properly. If I then exit back to the home screen and load up say LAYER I'll have the same problem. The compass will point in one direction and jerk around it until it's recalibrate again. It's more of an annoyance really as I basically have to recalibrate it every time I open up an app that uses it. Just wondering if others are having this issue. I've talked to a few i phone friends and other than the occasional recalibration they don't seem to have this issue.

It seems to pull in all my Google contacts not just my My Contacts but All Contacts (any one I have ever replied to) and all of my Facebook contacts, home numbers, I mean everyone. May 16, 2010Has anyone else experienced any issues in relation to the end key function after the 2.1 OTA firmware update? I had spare parts installed when I was running version 1.5 and had the function of the end key set to "home, then sleep", and I would use the end key to lock the phone screen to prevent pocket dialing, etc. Since the update I received OTA this morning, the key has been unresponsive with the exception of it's normal function of the power off menu when holding the key down or ending a call.
The screen will time-out as set (I changed mine to 15 seconds so I can lock the screen more quickly) and lock, but I'd really like the function restored. I un-installed spare parts and restarted the phone as I felt that it might be causing the issue as my wife's Eris' end key is functioning normally after update. However, no such luck as the key is still not working for me.
HTC Droid Eris :: Vibrate Function With Text Messages
Mar 16, 2010Im recently having a problem with the vibrate function with text messages. When getting a new text, it acts as if its on silent and not vibrate or anything but when i receive a phone call it vibrates. So i download Handscent to see if it vibrates with that app and it didnt. I have been throuh all the settings it seems like and I still cant get a vibrate with new sms messages.

Mar 12, 2010So last night I lost my end/power key function. The phone would not sleep when I hit the key, i would have to wait till it went on standby by itself. I tried some other things and realized that it was a software issue. I can hang up calles and I can bring it out of standby. it would go back into standby by hitting the key as long as I didnt unlock it. So I reinstalled 2.1. Well I got my end/power function back, but now my HTC clock/weather widget just says My Location. when I try to manually enter a city its not found. some major ones are listed but not many are not. GPS is on. Any ideas?

I did a small search around the internet, and it came up with just about nothing.My first question is: I turned mobile data off, and yet, during the night, I was charged for data, so something leaked.Personally, I thought if this was because of this particular function. But maybe it was something else.So, I turned it off, but around the forums for other androids people seem to think that syncing doesn't work as well with this disabled.Does anybody know what might have happened? And could this function have been the thing that caused the leak.The leak, was actually for only 50 KB or so, but because I'm on Page Plus, it caused me to go under the required balance to refill of $29.95 and caused my plan to lapse. It's important for me for this not to happen again. Can anyone give any tips?

Jul 13, 2010Mods. IMHO we have a lot of new users that are rooting their phone just for the sake of saying that they have rooted their phone. We have seen this before with other phones, not unlike the iphone, but the reasoning behind JBreaking an iphone, in hindsight, is crystal clear. We were trying to get more performance out of the platform vs the crap the apple and itunes were offering. Most of us have lived and learned through that process and want to put it into practical application here with the evo hyc 4g platform as well. That being said its obvious that this is the main driver behind rooting the evo as well. It may best serve the interest of our/your users, new and old, to detail out the pros and cons of rooting the evo. If this already articulated somewhere in the forum I would say, i stand corrected and pardon me. If not lets ask one of our senior posters/mods to offer that advice up and sticky the post appropriately.

Nov 5, 2010I've never been able to calibrate my compass since day one for some reason, but the easily rotating screens were driving me nuts and getting annoying. I was messing around yesterday, and tried hitting the Calibrate button like 50 times FAST AS HELL and I got the compass to appear! Doing it the normal way didn't do anything, as the phone would just repaint the screen with the fake phone showing you how to rotate it.After a few rotations, it turned green. I was like, wow, that was easy...until I tested it. My phone now refused to go to landscape at all!! So I tried it again. After another 50 taps, I went throught the same motions, got the red compass folks were complaining about in another thread and tried the solution that worked for some by deleting the market Compass app I got months ago. I went back to settings and...nope, still needs 50 taps and still got a red compass. I did a reboot and a battery pull, and same result. I can no longer get into landscape mode, EVER!!! The only way to get into landscape is if I am playing a game or something, but rotating the phone for web surfing or texting just doesn't work.

Mine heads in the right direction for about 270 degrees (rotating the phone) and the other 90 it is off by about 30 degrees. I have checked out 4 or 5 others in stores since launch day and they behave exactly the same. I also see this behavior using street view.

Jan 13, 2010i've been a (mostly) happy user of the milestone, as it is called over here, but in the past few days i noticed a problem.the compass in the phone is not only off, but virtually broken. it detects a constant reading "to the upper left", which simply overrides the earth's magnetic field. so, no matter how i turn the phone, north is always between one and two o'clock. by using the amazin tricorder app, i was able to find out that the magnitude of the reading differs significantly depending on the orientation of the phone, reaching almost "100" in the max, and about "65" when the phone is 18o turned. so i cleverly deduced that the magnetic flux sensors are still somehow active; but still, they turn out to be useless to me if they show a constant reading no matter.
