I noticed that when I am lookinh at google map (satellite or normal), when I turn the phone the map will not stay to point to the same direction. It turns with the phone. Is this the way it should be?
I also downloaded the Compass application. and it behaves kind of wierd: holding the phone horizonally, I turn around. The compass should keep pointing to the north regardless how I turn. Mine is all over the place. If I point the phone to NE, it does show the N direction but when I try to turn the phone to point to the North it goes all over the place.
This is regardless GPS on or off. I am still at 1.5...

I'm just wondering if this is normal: I can go into an app like Google Maps and drop down into street view with the compass view enabled. I'll see that the view will really only point one way and jerk around that one direction as I move it around. I'll then calibrate the compass using the figure 8 method and then street view will work properly. If I then exit back to the home screen and load up say LAYER I'll have the same problem. The compass will point in one direction and jerk around it until it's recalibrate again. It's more of an annoyance really as I basically have to recalibrate it every time I open up an app that uses it. Just wondering if others are having this issue. I've talked to a few i phone friends and other than the occasional recalibration they don't seem to have this issue.

The internal compass is acting sticky. Especially with Google stars. Anyone else? This is outside with no mag or metal sources close by.

I've recently published a new release of my compass "DGT Compass" but unfortunately. I'm receiving some negative feedback from Droid owners. Not very useful those feedbacks just saying "it doesn't work on Droid!". I would appreciate more details from some Droid tester.

I've never been able to calibrate my compass since day one for some reason, but the easily rotating screens were driving me nuts and getting annoying. I was messing around yesterday, and tried hitting the Calibrate button like 50 times FAST AS HELL and I got the compass to appear! Doing it the normal way didn't do anything, as the phone would just repaint the screen with the fake phone showing you how to rotate it.After a few rotations, it turned green. I was like, wow, that was easy...until I tested it. My phone now refused to go to landscape at all!! So I tried it again. After another 50 taps, I went throught the same motions, got the red compass folks were complaining about in another thread and tried the solution that worked for some by deleting the market Compass app I got months ago. I went back to settings and...nope, still needs 50 taps and still got a red compass. I did a reboot and a battery pull, and same result. I can no longer get into landscape mode, EVER!!! The only way to get into landscape is if I am playing a game or something, but rotating the phone for web surfing or texting just doesn't work.

i've been a (mostly) happy user of the milestone, as it is called over here, but in the past few days i noticed a problem.the compass in the phone is not only off, but virtually broken. it detects a constant reading "to the upper left", which simply overrides the earth's magnetic field. so, no matter how i turn the phone, north is always between one and two o'clock. by using the amazin tricorder app, i was able to find out that the magnitude of the reading differs significantly depending on the orientation of the phone, reaching almost "100" in the max, and about "65" when the phone is 18o turned. so i cleverly deduced that the magnetic flux sensors are still somehow active; but still, they turn out to be useless to me if they show a constant reading no matter.

I've noticed that I get a slightly different reading from the compass depending on how I hold the phone. If I hold it vertically, its different than when I hold it horizontal (ie parallel to a table or floor). Does anyone know the most accurate way to hold the phone for the compass?

I have been searching everywhere (except the right place maybe ) for some notes on the proper method of CALIBRATING the Hero compass. I have found much commentary about the compass, but no specific talk about how to actually calibrate it. I am trying to use the GPS Status application (recently updated), and it keeps giving me "Compass out of calibration - see FAQs" message. I have looked at every FAQ I can find and searched the forums and no joy. Could anyone please point me where I can find some instructions about calibrating the compass?

I got my Droid Tuesday, 11/3/09, around 9:30am. I'm enjoying this phone more than any other smartphone that I've used so far, including any blackberry, winmo, and my iphone. The OS is fast, smooth, everything works great. I simply activated my phone, turned it on, it asked me if I had a google account. I signed in and my gmail account, contacts with picture id, and google talk were set up in just a few minutes. The downside is that it doesn't sync with Outlook, no user manual or sync software included with the phone.
You can drop and drag and for ringtones, you need to create a folder, then drop and drag. There is no default video player but you can get one from the Android Market. Actually, you can get almost anything there. You may find other things you'd expect to have on the phone by default, you have to get from the Market. So, it will take some time to get everything set up. I haven't used the camera yet. The keyboard is not the best, but it's useable. The touch screen keyboard is very good though.

I have looked all over, and done a few searches already, but that don't mean I'm not blind.
How do you/Can you calibrate the screen touch points on the DX? I seem to have to aim slightly lower left of every thing I want to hit. Sadly it seems to be getting worse or well, I'm blinder than I thought.

Wondering how many of you have a compass that is accurate through its entire travel? Mine heads in the right direction for about 270 degrees (rotating the phone) and the other 90 it is off by about 30 degrees. I have checked out 4 or 5 others in stores since launch day and they behave exactly the same. I also see this behavior using street view.

Just got my hands on a Droid and now I'm working out some kinks. My iPhone and laptop have no problem roaming aggressively between multiple access points we have at work that share the same SSID. I can't seem to get the Droid to do the same thing. I've tried downloading some wifi scanners, but they don't quite cut it. Is there a setting I'm missing? The expected behavior would be for the Droid to happily associate with any AP that shares a "remembered" SSID. Right now, it requires manually going into settings and associating with each and every AP in order for it to hop automatically as I move around the building.

I discovered an option in street view that is called "Compass View". Not sure what use it is but I thought it was cool. You have to hold the phone in portrait as opposed to landscape for the compass to work...check it out.

I am trying to write a code about catch lat. and long. points with the GPS, actually I am using the shell with the commands "geo fix" because the DDMS doesn't work in linux apparently, I am using this scripts:
getBestProvider(criteria, true); getLastKnownLocation(provider); requestLocationUpdates(provider, 2000, 10, locationListener);
The questions is: the program is working right now in the emulator, but what about if I move the program to the real cellphone? Is the same? I need think in something else?

I want to make a apps that check what's the nearest place from where the user is. I can easily get the location of the user and I have a list of places with latitude and longitude. What would be the best way to know the nearest place of the list against the current position. I could not find anything in the google APIs. I am worried I need to resort to my calculate and have to do math to calculate it.

I am just a beginner in the Android and was experimenting with HTTP.I have published the result of my experimentation through the following link http://kausikdas.webs.com/apps/blog/show/1489440-http-in-android. I am yet to get a device but working with the Simulator.I need feedbacks on the possible network problems I should handle. e.g.: 1. Do I need to discover the access points and dial one before connecting? 2. How can I know which services (Data/Data & Voice/Voice/No/Emergency etc.) current network is supporting? 3. Anything more to take care of?

I'm trying to add a label to each of the points on a map that I've created. Setting the "title" and "snippet" values of the OverlayItem don't seem to automatically cause these labels to appear however. I would've thought this would be a pretty simple and common requirement. Am I missing something? Can someone tell me if there's a function that does this?
