Motorola Droid :: Phone Keyboard Like Becoming Less Sticky / Fix It?
Apr 19, 2010
My keyboard on my droid is like becoming less sticky. Like it seems like the adhesive underneath the buttons isn't working so the buttons make a noise every time I push them. I was wondering if this happened to anyone else or if my phone is just messed up because I wasn't sure if its even worth it to get a new one or if it'll just happen again.

I know there's an app section to this forum, but I'd like specific feedback on which notes/sticky apps MDroiders are using. I have gtasks. but I'd like something akin to a sticky note for quick scribbles.

Would it be possible to compile a list [links] to the various ROM and Theme threads here? Either list them in the top sticky, or create a second sticky entitled "Themes/ROMs," or some variation thereof?

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

I was exploring the option of using the 2.1 keyboard on my 2.2 updated X, because the 2.1 has the double. For, and i REALLY missed it. So i uninstalled the 2.2 multitouch, and installed a "ported" copy of the droid X 2.1 keyboard. But it would not install - so i figured the system keyboard was preventing it. I used titanium to make a backup, and then uninstalled the 2.2 keyboard, and used files to install the port. Worked ok, except that the listing in keyboards showed up under the wii mote ime. and when you added sound it would quickly FC. I can type with it, but the letters are very small.
Fine, I saw a spot that had the "offical" 2.1 last night in the bloatware thread. Same problems. Keys are small and FC's on volume. So I reboot the phone to solve it, and nothing still issues. Since then I decided I would let someone who knows what they are doing work this out, but until then, I cant get the 2.2 back on. I have the file saved on the SD card. Ive used supermanager to place it back into the system/app/latinime.apk location but after a reboot, now I have no keyboards (except the wiimoteime). I tried installing it with super manager, but that doesn't really do anything, and when i try installing it from "files" it says "Application not installed".

The Droid is a computer with a phone.Old guys need a real keyboard. The Palm Clie had a fold up keyboard that went to full size and plugged into the Clie.So when are we going to get a blue tooth full size keyboard? I only want 5% of the net for this idea!

Has anyone had any problems with the droid's pull-out keyboard repeating certain letters? At first I thought it was just a user error, but over the last few weeks it's been getting more and more apparent. e.g. While trying to type "inside" it will instead type "inside" or instead of "tomorrow" it will type "tomorrow".

I never use my physical keyboard. I would like a slim case to protect my phone and i don't care if the KB doesn't slide out at all. i would actually prefer it stay closed. Hard plastic or a soft silicone is ok with me. i have the soft rubber case around my work BB and it works perfect. I would love something like that for my droid. And i want one that doesn't raise too much over the screen. a coworker has a hard case for his iphone and it makes it hard to hit the touch screen on the borders. the case sits so high you have to put your finger or thumb almost verticle to touch the on screen keyboard.

Is there a setting that I'm missing or a tweak that would let me unlock my droid when i slide the keyboard open? i see no point in having to "slide to unlock" when i already had to manually slide the keyboard out. Mose sliders will unlock when you do so, was sad that the droid doesn't .

I am looking for a case that will prevent the keyboard from sliding out. I know I will more than likely not find what I am looking for because the slide out keyboard is a selling point for this phone, but mine keeps sliding out in my pocket and I am concerned that the open portion of the keyboard might bend, flex or crack if it is bent the wrong way. Maybe I am being paranoid, but it never hurts to be preventative

Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!

What do you guys think about having a special setting for the droid in snesoid(or any emulator). The setting would let you hold the phone "upside down" while the keyboard is out(make the screen the screen show upside down as well of course). That way its the tradional.dpad on left and buttons on right. I sent this to the programmer.but no luck. I dont think it would be too hard to keep your hands away from the screen and still play comfortably.

Mods. IMHO we have a lot of new users that are rooting their phone just for the sake of saying that they have rooted their phone. We have seen this before with other phones, not unlike the iphone, but the reasoning behind JBreaking an iphone, in hindsight, is crystal clear. We were trying to get more performance out of the platform vs the crap the apple and itunes were offering. Most of us have lived and learned through that process and want to put it into practical application here with the evo hyc 4g platform as well. That being said its obvious that this is the main driver behind rooting the evo as well. It may best serve the interest of our/your users, new and old, to detail out the pros and cons of rooting the evo. If this already articulated somewhere in the forum I would say, i stand corrected and pardon me. If not lets ask one of our senior posters/mods to offer that advice up and sticky the post appropriately.

Not that the above sticky is not useful and interesting. For those who have not read it, there is a debate raging about the effect of a specific OC setup on battery life.Regardless of that, has anybody else tried to overclock the processor for speed, or underclock it for battery? I am curious about a few things:
1. If you overclock the process for speed, which applications benefit? So far, there is very little lag anyway - without overclocking.
2. Is it not necessary to up the voltage going to the Evo processor when overclocking? For example, when I overclocked my home pc, I changed the voltage and the RAM timing.
3. When underclocking, if the same "stock" voltage is going to the processor anyway how does anybody expect to get battery savings? In my mind, the speed of the processor is not the issue, it is the energy that the processor consumes. (Or is this automatically handled by the widget behind the scenes?)
4. When underclocking the processor - have you experienced more lag? What is the "slowest" the processor can run before you notice anything?
5. What general experiences have you had with applications, the process, etc.

I have an app which performs some online functions to a web server farm we operate using URLConnection. I'm finding that the client IP address of the phone seems to change after a fairly brief period of inactivity.
For example, please see these timestamps and the corresponding client IP addresses:
2010-02-03 09:46:47 / 32.152.30.98 2010-02-03 09:47:05 / 32.152.30.98 2010-02-03 09:57:21 / 32.152.218.197 2010-02-03 09:59:53 / 32.152.23.19
This is sitting in a stationary location (on an AT&T EDGE network) in my office. Is there some reason for this behavior?

I have an app that performs an asynchronous login as part of its startup sequence. This eventually displays a list of items.
A separate thread performs integrity checks on a database on the sdcard during the startup sequence. If something is unexpected, I do a sendBroadcast() that triggers a showDialog() on my base activity class. This asks the user on how to react to the unexpected event.
My problem is: this dialog disappears as soon as the startup sequence finishes and displays the list of items. Is it possible to make my dialog stay on top no matter what?

My Galaxy S came with a little piece of sticky plastic, with a cut-out hole for the lens itself, that covered the camera bezel.I assume this was just to prevent the silver bit getting scratched in transit, and not for anything important like keeping dust out of the housing, etc?I only ask because I assumed it was intended to be removed, but it was quite tricky to get off. So when I finally did get it off, I suddenly wondered if I should have done.
