May 27, 2010Before I updated the leaked 2.1 v3, I used to have an app called Google Talk that would allow me to chat with google contacts. Now, I can't seem to find it anywhere both on the phone or online? The closest I could find is google services which goes through the Dolphin browser - clumsy in my opinion.

I made my girlfriend a gmail account so we could use that rather than text, but I can't seem to figure out how to sync the google talk contact to her. I added her gmail account to her contact card but on google talk she's still coming up as a separate contact.

Feb 19, 2010Ok I've read a gazillion threads on battery life and 2.1 etc etc and you have me all waiting anxiously for an update and bigger batteries but what about actual talk time on the phone? didn't see any threads about that. Its not uncommon for my phone to be a toy all week then on the weekend catch up with some buds or family or whatever and yak on the thing for 2 hours straight. Will it hold? I know my old razer with an ext batt would go 4 hours talk time easy, glimmer would do 2.5 hrs easy with stock battery sometimes more. Pearl did well, haven't really talked the Storm out cause its my work phone and I tend to shun that thing on the weekends ....so let me know how long you've talked on it! Battery life does seem to stink but I can't put the damn thing down so I'm sure that has something to do with it and all my other smartphones sucked battery wise too the first week or so, so I'm not passing judgment yet, just want to know how long i can talk on the thing before it dies....I will do my own testing soon but would like some ideas.

HTC Droid Eris :: Google Talk - Can't Receive Or Send Messages
Dec 14, 2009Anyone else having issues with Google Talk on the Droid Eris? I can open the application, however my friends list is gone and I can't receive or send any messages. I went into the application manager and cleared the app data, and also power cycled the phone. Any other suggestions? I doesn't appear i can delete and re-download.

May 20, 2010Thought it would be a prudent thread to list all of the battery killing apps and processes (ie don't shut down right)that have been found in 2.1. The one that I found, the hard way after 3 straight days of only getting 10 hours of battery life, is the Google Talk service. I accidentally opened it and System Panel didn't kill it. I only found it by looking at Battery Uses>Running Services.

May 3, 2010My status on Google Talk never changes despite the fact that I have the settings checked in settings to "go to away when I turn off the screen" as well as "show mobile indicator to friends". This wasn't functional in 1.5, 2.1v1 and now 2.1v3 on my Eris. Has anyone had success? I've seen this function work on a TMobile rooted G1 but that's it.
I can watch the indicator change on the web when I change it manually (signed in as another user), and its very responsive. However, no auto-away when i lock the phone, and no indication that I'm on a mobile phone.
HTC Droid Eris :: Google Talk Chat Messages Counted Towards SMS / MMS With Verizion?
Feb 12, 2010Ive been reading this forum for several months, and bought my Eris last month (previous Blackberry Storm owner). With my Blackberry, I was used to having Blackberry Messenger service that allowed me to message other BB owners, without using my SMS/MMS count with Verizion. Without that, I have set up Google Talk as an alternative.
Pardon me asking something here that everyone else proabably already knows, but does the Google Talk messages get counted as SMS/MMS messages by Verizon ? I do not use it except to message one of my friends from time to time, so I am fairly ignorant about the various types of 'chat' messaging systems out there.
Thanks for your help, and I am enjoying everything that this Eris can do so far. I was a bit leery at making the switch, but I can see Android systems are a good way to go.
HTC Droid : Power - Sleep Button Recessed Than Phone / Talk On Eris
Feb 14, 2010Anybody out there see what I'm seeing? It seems as if the power/sleep button is a bit more recessed than the phone/talk button that pops out a little more. Could this just be from heavier use since I am always hitting the sleep button after phone use? Or, is this a HTC design to prevent you from hitting the button as easily. Not really a huge difference here just enough to feel if you run your finger over both of them. Wondering if it will get lower over time? Good ol' ocd flaring up again.

Apr 17, 2010I'm currently running stock 1.5. I'm seriously considering rooting my phone. I've got a decent bit of Linux experience, so I doubt I'll mess anything up too awful bad.
Any good reason to wait on the 2.1 OTA rather than root now? Has anyone rooted and wished they didn't? I know most of the benefits, I'm wondering about the risk.

HTC Droid Eris :: HTC Sync Can't Find My Phone
Nov 25, 2009I can't sync between my PC, Vista 32 bit, and my Eris. I can mount the SD card and transfer pictures, etc. I have enabled USB Debugging. I have installed/re-installed HTC sync several times. I have disabled my virus software.I get the HTC Sync notification when I plug in the Eris, but when I tap it to start connecting, nothing. The PC bleeps at me as if it has recognized a new device, but the Eris never finds the HTC sync software (yes it is open). It finally reports that it can't find HTC Sync on the PC.The first time, Windows installed several device drivers, including the HTC driver. "My HTC" driver is visible in the Device Manager and reports it is working properly. This last time, I got a Windows Error stating the HTCVBTServer module had stopped working.I can't find any information on this.

Feb 18, 2010I recently bought a Plantronics bluetooth. I went through the setup (as described in the bluetooth manual and my HTC Eris manual. It shows the bluetooth as "working" by the symbol at the top of my screen however, it's not allowing me to use it. It's fully charged, light blinking.
