I use Taskiller to "kill" or end active programs that I'm not using, so as to reduce battery drain. I notice with 2.1 that every time I power up, lots of apps are launched automatically. This wasn't the case with 1.9. Anybody know if there's a way to prevent this?

I am trying to root my phone, but I can't get the system recovery to come up. I'm following the Universal Eris Root for Dummies thread here and it said to power off and then power up while pressing the volume up key. This does not launch the system recovery for me, just boots up like normal.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Droid Inc just got the 2.2 update last night. I use Advanced Task Killer quite a bit and one thing I immediately noticed is that a lot of programs keep launching themselves in the background. I never saw this happen with 2.1 other than sometimes when I would wake up in the morning, Gesture Search or CityID might be running. Now, I can go into Advanced Task Killer and kill everything and within 5 minutes I can go back in there and have between 10 and 15 apps running. They always seem to be mostly the same ones. Here are the ones that are currently running:
- Gesture Search
- Engadget (This one starts up within about 10 seconds after I kill it)*
- TiKL - Touch to Talk (Beta)*
- Layar*
- Amazon MP3 (this must be something that came with 2.2)
- Svox Classic
- Voice Dialer
- Internet (I use Dolphin)
- AppBrain App Market*
- The Weather Channel*
- Startup Cleaner 2.0*
- EasyTether*
- Handcent SMS*
I uninstalled all the apps on that list with an (*) next to them and then reinstalled them to see if that helped at all. It helped for some of them but I have the following apps still startup after I reboot my phone and let everything finish loading. The ones with an (*) below are ones that the Startup Cleaner 2.0 kills on startup.

- TiKL - Touch to Talk (Beta)*
- Handcent SMS*
- Gesture Search
- Footprints
- Facebook*
- Google Search
Handcent loads back up in about 15 seconds after it is killed. TiKL loads back up in about 30 seconds. If I wait about 5 minutes after killing everything that is running, I get the following apps running:
- Gesture Search
- News
- Startup Cleaner 2.0
- Handcent SMS
- TiKL
These all load without me doing anything on my phone. None of this happened with 2.1. This is driving me nuts.
I know that some people in here are against Task Killers but I have all necessary programs on my Ignore list. I also disagree with some peoples thoughts that even though a task killer shows low memory, it doesn't mean you are low on memory. Anytime my phone starts running slow, I can guarantee that Advanced Task Killer will show less than 100MB of available memory. That's how it's been every time my phone has run slow.
I've had a problem with my apps not automatically restoring when I flash a custom ROM.I'm not using titanium but using Google's service as I log in with mg Google account.Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?The last ROM I tried to flash was Chevy's 4.7 and no apps came through from the market but all of my contacts synced.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Titanium Backup to backup and restore my apps whenever I switch to a new ROM, and I was wondering: is it possible to have it automatically have it install apps without me having to manually hit "install" then "done"? I hate it cuz I could be restoring 40+ apps and I'd have to manually hit "install" for every one.

View 8 Replies View RelatedFirst time trying to send a photo via text message (MMS). On any number of my previous phones, the phone would automatically resize the image so that it wasnt too large to send. That does not appear to be happening on the Eris. I sent one photo, and it was nearly 1100kb. Then another photo I attempted to send would not attach, because it said it was too large (it was like 1250kb in size). So, is there a way to have it automatically resize a photo that is being sent via MMS? Or will I need to do that manually beforehand with an app from the Market, like Picasa or something of the sort?

My phone was plugged in, and I fell asleep on top of it.Now most of the time my phone will automatically scroll to the left.I have reset my phone and tried other ROMs and it's all the same. I read in the forums that there is no fix but that was as of 5-xx-10.So i was wondering.... Is there a fix now or am I going to have to get a new phone?And if i do have to get a new phone... Would it be a refurb or would it be a NEW phone?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that my Google calendar isn't automatically syncing with my phone despite the fact that I have it set to sync automatically. I enter new appointments on my computer and it isn't until I go in and actually ask the phone to sync that the appointments show up. Anyone else noticed this? Any fix? I've been through all the settings and can't seem to find a setting to set it to sync for specific time intervals (every hour, or once a day, etc.). Anyone else find this setting?

I used Google Domains / Apps for my mail..so instead of @gmail, I have mine @absolutebica.com.however, when I send a test email to my account...it never shows up automatically. I am finding I have to physically go into my settings, data synronization, and manually sync my mail for anything new to show up.Whats up? Is there a specific time limit set somewhere for when it checks for new mail?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to the Eris, and have had pretty good luck with battery life, until a couple days ago. I take it off the charger, and an hour later I am down to 80%. No WiFi, no GPS on, etc. I check with ATK and find Browser, Music, Mail, etc. all open. So, today after I took the Eris off its charger, I reboot it, then check ATK, kill any open programs, and go about my day.
2 hours later, I look, and my battery is at 74%! So I open ATK, and there is all these programs open again, and all I have done in that 2 hours is send a couple texts. The only change I made recently is I installed PandaHome, didn't really like any of the themes, and uninstalled it all. Could it have left something behind that is opening programs?
How do you make it so the phone doesn't automatically check for emails? I get so few that it would be better for me to be able to simply do a "manual" check when I want, rather than have the phone check all the time. Besides, I don't NEED to be notified every time I get an email since most are crap anyway.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with my wifi not connecting. I have to AP's in my house, on different channels. They work perfectly fine. I have the wifi toggle setting on the home screen that I usually press to toggle the wifi on/off. Recently, it hasn't been working after I disconnect from 3G and connect to wifi. It says the wifi is turned on, but it won't connect to either of the remembered APs. The only way to get it to automatically connect is to go to settings and view the list of APs. Only then will it connect to one of the two APs. This is really annoying, as it seemed to only start this recently and nothing has changed. My wifi sleep policy is never to turn off. It's a droid eris with 2.1 OTA. Ran a virus scan, nothing. Any ideas?

I have Advanced Task Killer, and when I go in for example it shows Messages running, when I kill it, it will reappear in 30 secs or so, the same with MP3 store. Can these apps be stopped so they don't take up memory or what's the deal here. Thanks for any help.

View 10 Replies View RelatedIt's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.
I have a HTC Droid Eris and a 16gb micro SD card. My phone's internal memory is starting to run low, and I was wondering how to get my Eris to save my apps to my card instead.
