I am using the standard gmail app that comes with the motorola droid. However password authentication is only required the first time the application is launched. This means anyone who picks up your phone can see your email with one touch. Is there a way to require password authentication each time the application is launched?

For a few real and a few imagined problems yesterday I went on-line and changed my gmail password. Then I tried to find on my X where to update the new password. After looking in what I thought was everywhere I called tech support and they said it was hard coded. I would need to "wipe" the phone and start fresh. Some words about lost data as well.
He suggested tring to get back to the original password which gmail allowed without resetting a few more times. After thinking about this though, there are more than a few good reasons to change passwords and this seems a bit on the dumb side to me.
Was he wrong or is the OS wrong to have this hard wired? Since Google runs this whole thing doesn't it seem like they should make it a tad more user friendly if that is the case?
I had to change the password for my Gmail account. I can't seem to figure out how to change the password on the phone. The only option I see is to reset the phone. I can't delete and reinstall the gmail account because it is the default account for the phone. I really hope I don't have to reset this thing.

However, I do not know whether ACTION_SEND can accept username and password as well. This username and password basically will be used to authenticate the email sender. It's just like when you need to log-in into your gmail account before you can compose and send an email to someone.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy mom wanted an Android phone and decided to go with the Droid X. She really likes the phone so far, even though there is a bit of a learning curve. The problem that is frustrating us both is that in order to sign into Google's Android Market place you must enter/confirm your gmail account. We enter her account information, which is 100% correct, and then it brings us to a captcha box. I've entered about 30 different captcha's and each time it starts to connect to Google's servers and then brings us right back to another captcha. There will be clear captcha's and I will be very careful I'm entering the correct characters and then it will still not work.Does anyone have a solution to this? Should I chalk this up as a server problem and wait and try it again tomorrow?I understand this isn't necessarily a Droid X issue as it is an Android 2.2 issue.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLately (last 3 weeks) I've been getting those prompts to copy a word code in order to access my gmail. i get three of them actually. I'm assuming it's because i have three gmail accounts set up on my phone. i don't know if these prompts are for syncing or accessing my gmail. all i know is they're random, never at startup, and not necessarily prompted by anything specific that i do,,,like trying to get into email or something. they just pop up.
They're accompanies by an orange exclamation mark in the top notification bar. it has never occurred to me until now as i post, to pull down the notification to see what it's about.
I use handcent for texting and noticed that both the default messaging app and handcent are both running at the same time (via taskkiller) do they both have to run? Can I make the default msg app stop? Can you delete default apps?

View 11 Replies View RelatedPeople may have noticed the recent TLD change for UK gmail addresses previously googlemail.co.uk and now gmail.com. With this, it seems to have messed up my syncing and authentication for some reason. I changed over the other day and ever since I kept getting a message saying the authentication failed. I then added my gmail address as another account and set it to sync gmail (can't sync the calendar for some reason it's not an option). I have not received any push notifications of new mail and I have to manually refresh from within the mail app to get new e-mails. I don't want to remove the previous googlemail.co.uk as it says I have to restore my phone to factory settings (possibly losing messages etc.)

View 5 Replies View RelatedPeriodically I change my passwords and yesterday after doing so, and updating my htc mail settings I cannot access my mail. I am getting an error saying authentication failed. It had worked perfectly fine then several hours later I got the message when I went to check my mail - actually the lack of. Because I had noticed gmail notifier updating my mail on my computer but nothing on my phone.
I read elsewhere to try it on just a 3g connection, or going to wifi, neither worked. I have deleted the account, and tried setting it up from scratch to no avail. The gmail stock app works, I just like the mail widget from htc.
I try to send numerous emails through the Gmail app and they won't send. They sit in my Outbox and never send. Is anyone else having this issue, or had this issue and care to help how to reslove it? I had the Smoked Glass Rom, but switched back to my old edited rooted nandroid backup, then even tried the OEM version I had backed up, but it still won't send.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to display a map using that rotates according to the phone's orientation. I have rewrite a part of the google sample to use a SensorEventListner instead of a SensorListener.
My Problem is when I try to use the findViewByID() method to display the map my application crashes on start. If I use MapView(Context, String) to create my view it works fine. Did I miss something to use main.xml layout file ? What's wrong with this ?

However, even though I have WiFi on and I am connected to the network, if I go into the browser it clearly just uses the signal I have for cell, not WiFi. I'd like to have the faster connection, but I feel like you have to be on only WiFi in order to put in that information, but I couldn't turn off my wireless network. Is there a way to do this, or is there a way to make this log in thing much easier? Cause I don't really want to turn my wireless cell connection on off everytime I want to authenticate ya know?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have uploaded application to market and met weird problem which I never received before - when I click "Open" button when the application is installed I receive error dialog and the application is forced to close. I do not have this problem when start application from desktop launcher panel. I have already receive 2 stars for that though the exception even comes not from my cod - very unpleasant surprize from market app.
Application uses vibration and declares corresponding uses-permission "android.permission.VIBRATE" - this is what the exception tells me about, but I can't see such problem with other apps that use vibration on market.

Applications can have any number of launchable activities. I know how to get the list of these activities via PackageManager.
Is there a way to determine which activities can be launched via startActivity?
For example, the Documents To Go app has different activities that will start Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, etc... I am able to launch all o these just fine.
However, it also contains some activities that I am not able to launch with startActivity... If I attempt to do this I get a SecurityException.
I want to be able to determine which activities I can safely launch and which I cannot so I only present the user with a list of activities that I can safely launch from within my application...
I want to run some code when an app is launched, so my broadcast receiver has to be notified when user open any app.

POP3 incoming mail works, is sent to my phone.Problem is I can not send an email using that account.I get an "Authentication error sending" message on my phone. I have checked the Outgoging Server settings, and the SMTP server and port are correct. The username and password are correct. I wrote an application to manage the call log entries as per user preferences by listening to the publication of android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE events. My application is working fine as long as its process is running. However if the user has stopped my application with a task-killer application, then the log entries can not be managed as my app itself was not running. I need a way to make sure that my application is launched in the background if it is not already running when the android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE occurs. Or is it possible to launch my application as a service that always runs?
