Got my desire a week ago, loving it, but have a problem with the device keeps turning off every few hours, then it have problems to recover, i.e, doesnt turn on, it mainley happens during use. any similar experience anyone?

I will be getting my new Desire while at work tomorrow, how long is it best to charge it for the first time. I don't want to only charge it for 4 hours there when it is best to do it for 12! Also can you use it during this first charge? Just asking as I want the best battery life and didn't know if HTC had already done the battery' first charge for you.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI discovered the battery status information from the settings menu yesterday and was wondering if someone could clarify Up Time and Awake Time for me? Currently my uptime is 131 hours, and awake time something like 29. Am I right in thinking that these are the numbers since I got the phone (or put the battery in, I guess). This would seem to indicate that when I turn the phone off at night I'm not really turning it off - is that the case? I'd like to know the time that the phone has been on since last charge as then I'd get a good idea of how long I'm getting from a charge - I can't see this anywhere, can anyone recommend and app/widget for it?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm new here, hope I can post this here Does anyone know if you can set a specific time for the reminder for a specific event, i.e 9:12am, I couldn't find the feature and it really annoys me as in my 8 year old nokia I could set a specific time for the reminder to go off at for the calendar event. In the desire you can only set 5,10min..1,2,3,12,24hrs.. etc, but I need the reminder to go off i.e. 4 hours before the scheduled event or at 9:12. Any app suggestions? I've got the phone for like a day so maybe the feature is there but don't think so.

I'm at work and it's fully charged and I should have a little time to tinker with it.When i turned the phone on for the first time this morning, it got me to setup my facebook and google account. All went well and it sync properly.Now when i go to my Phonebook....i still everyone on my facebook and I can't remove them....I would like to maintain my contacts in a nicer way as my fb account has tons of people I do not know due to me adding random people for games Is there a way I can select which contact to sync over or if this is not possible to turn it off completely but still have Friendstream working?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the displayed times shown on the home screen. The one displayed in the widget with the weather is displaying the correct time but the one in the top right corner is showing as being 1 hour behind. I have tried using manual and auto settings for the time but all this does is change the time in the widget.
Probably something really simple but cannot figure out how to get them displaying the same.
in spare parts, under other usage, My Wi-Fi on and Wi-Fi Running percentages are ALWAYS the same... right now sitting at 99% each. Surely Wi-Fi on should be at 99%, but Wi-Fi running should be considerably lower since I don't have any form of auto sync or location based things on.I can keep my phone on for 12 hours, Wi-Fi enabled, and Wi-Fi running is always full, at 99 odd percent. Nothing is using the wi-fi, even when i choose to forget my wifi details so there is no connection. I suspect it may have something to do with the root process "0" under Network usage under Battery history in spare parts. I'm thinking it's keeping my Wi-Fi active and draining my batt, even if it's not pulling any data.I've completely uninstalled every app (except spare parts), wiped cache and dalvik, put phone on Aeroplane mode, nothing changes. Facebook app isn't updated to 1.3 or 1.3.1 either.Really at wits end as to why my Wi-Fi is "running" at 100% all the time.Here are my details: HTC Desire rooted with Clockwork from latest Unrevoked. Rom is Official Sense + Froyo from OpenDesire Team v1.0c

View 5 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a poor signal alot of the time. 1 or 2 bars is not unusual in places my old phone used to have full signal strength. It went on roaming for some reason in the shopping centre today. It is always on H or nothing. My old phone used to drop onto edge and GPRS if it didn't get a H signal. And what about 3G? An all singing all dancing phone is no good if it cant perform its main function.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOn my Palm Treo 680, I was able to type a keyboard shortcut or macro to put in the current date and time in a string of text.On the Palm, I typed ".dts" and it returned a macro of "@@ds @@ts", which then returned the current date and time, using ShortCut5 in Prefs. Even on the PC, I use "zds" to return a similar date and time stream - this is using "autoworkers" - 28/6/2010 2:21 PM.Is there some sort of keyboard macro or auto text or shortcut method to do this with the HTC Desire ?(I will probably be asking a lot of "on the Palm Treo 680 I could, how do I on HTC Desire" questions, as I migrate to my new device. HTC Desire - When I first receive my phone, do I need to charge the battery?
It states 8 hours. Which should I follow? Also, can I have it switched on while I charge so I can set it up? And I imagine I should let it fully discharge before charging it again, but how many times is this appropriate for? The first 2 or 3 or more times?

Issue:
For some reason on most mornings since I got my Desire some 12 days ago I get a notification stating that the phone has been unable to confirm my time zone. I get an option to confirm my time zone as BST (GMT +1) and the phone is happy again...until the next morning.
My settings have the phone automatically checking the date and time. The greyed-out "choose time zone" option correctly shows GMT +1 / BST. I switch my phone to airplane mode overnight, so that I don't download updates unnecessarily...and don't get my sleep disturbed. Could this be the problem?
The strange thing is that this has not happened every morning, although most mornings it has. But my brother who lives in the same house also has a Desire and he has rarely had this problem. Any ideas?
I seem to get this error message daily 'Unable to detect your current time zone', does anyone else get this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got the fantastic Desire friday and I'm really enjoying it so far coming from iPhone and Hero.
Unfortunately I've run into a little issue: Up time and awake time (in Settings>About phone>Battery) are almost the same, meaning that the CPU never correctly throttles down when the phone is asleep. This is causing battery life to be rather short - On average I get 10-15 hours out of the phone with moderate settings.
By going to the battery info console (type *#*#4636#*#* in dialer) I managed to figure out that the calendar in some way is running and preventing the phone from sleeping (Partial wake in top dropdown). I did a factory reset and it hasn't seemed to help. There are 2 calendar related apps running: Obexservice and connectivityservice.
When typing on the keyboard, I frequently use secondary symbols, by holding down a button and wait for the secondary options to appear. However, it takes some time for that to happen, and the unnatural pauses makes me a bit frustrated when i'm typing. I like typing fast, and I barely tap the buttons when typing. I wanna know how I can decrease the time needed to hold down the buttons until the secondary options appear, so that I can test a few values and find something I am comfortable with.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a branded Desire, with Telstra software. These last few months have seen my desire constantly rebooting itself. This occurs 2-3 times a day without fail. It not only restarts itself, but takes a good 10-15 minutes to fully boot - constantly 're-rebooting'. I have removed ALL after-market applications, removed all data from the memory card, so it's back to how it was straight out the box (with the exception of user data - contacts, messages etc.). I don't feel comfortable with debranding / rooting the phone. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the restarts, and a possible way around it? There is no definitive process or application involved in the restarts, it is entirely random.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWell, this is my first post and as the title states i finally took the step to buy a smart phone and the old Nokia 6120 classic is headed for the drawer.I was tossing up between the Iphone and the HTC Desire. Not really wanting to be an Isheep and after reading all the good reviews of the Desire on the net i decided to go with it. First up i'll address the main point i was worried about..... battery life.
All the people saying they get less than a day with theirs made me worry. But after thinking about my usage compared to others i decided it would hopefully be fine. After getting mine about 5 days ago and charging it up overnight i can say that i didn't really have anything to worry about got through my first day (Friday) with a couple of phone calls, played around with it for half an hour at lunchtime, then probably another hour or two of constant use when i got home playing with the settings, widgets etc. It then continued trucking on till the following day (Saturday) where i played around for another hour or so in the morning until about 11am when it started to get low. That was when the battery warning came up on the screen. So i got about 30 hours out of it on the first charge and by the sounds of some other posts this will get a bit better. Without all the time messing around with the new toy and the battery settling in id say i'll be getting at least 2 days without a charge in the future. I realize other people use theirs a whole lot more at work but i have a radio in my car i listen to on the way to work so no mp3 needed and a phone in the office i use, but if your like me and just a casual user to make a few calls and send a few texts, check the weather out and surf the net a bit it will be fine. I realize that im not using it to its full potential, but thats fine with me. Code...
I'm using the Oxygen ROM on an HTC Desire HD. When I leave my phone alone for a while and come back to unlock it, performance is often slow for 20 seconds to the point where swiping between launcher screens is sluggish. After this time it goes right back up to normal speeds.
Is this possibly related to the CPU settings in my ROM? The settings are available governors - interactive, min CPU - 245MHz, max CPU 1024 MHz. My guess is that when the phone's idle it goes down to 245MHz and takes a while to get back up to regular speeds. Am I looking in the right place and how much would increasing min CPU frequency affect my battery life?
Does anyone know if there is a app, or phone mod that allows you to access the SD Card on the phone, at the same time as it's being used as a drive.I'm getting tired of transferring things like icons, and wallpaper to my phone, then having to unmount the drive before I can use them. Especially if I'm just trying out new icons.Is it possible to have my desire set to disk drive, and access it at the same time?

Since the updates, it is taking ages to calculate route, so long in fact that I exit the programme and start again, and then I just give up and dig out my atlas.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy calls to getFromLocationName() always fail the "first" time I start my app. I catch the IOException which has reason:
Unable to parse response from server
Then I make a second call and it succeeds. Once things are "awake" all future calls to getFromLocationName() succeed, it's just that first one, and there is a ton of latency.
I haven't run this on a device yet, just in the emulator. This seems like a network problem, but it is so reproducible I'm thinking I'm not initializing something properly. I'm using Android SDK 1.1.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMotoDroid 2.2. Since 2.2, the auto-rotate screen goes haywire from time to time. I normally use the vertical format, easier to type, but when it switches, not much screen left, and I have to go back and back to start over again.
