HTC Desire :: Reducing Delay Time For Secondary Keys

Aug 22, 2010

When typing on the keyboard, I frequently use secondary symbols, by holding down a button and wait for the secondary options to appear. However, it takes some time for that to happen, and the unnatural pauses makes me a bit frustrated when i'm typing. I like typing fast, and I barely tap the buttons when typing. I wanna know how I can decrease the time needed to hold down the buttons until the secondary options appear, so that I can test a few values and find something I am comfortable with.

HTC Desire :: Reducing Internal Memory

Nov 23, 2010

I've just been trying to download the latest update for the HTC Desire on Vodafone, but I can't install it, due to lack of internal memory.

I have checked all my apps & the ones I can "move to SD" have all been moved, but some apps won't give me the option to "move to SD"

My internal memory is still quite full (129mb out of 147mb)

Is there a way of moving stuff from the internal memory to my SD card?

HTC EVO 4G :: How To Change Delay / Snooze Time On Calendar Reminders?

Sep 27, 2010

Does anyone know how to change the delay/snooze time on calendar reminders? (I'm not talking about the default time to remind you ahead of an event). For instance, when a reminder goes off, mine currently chimes to remind me every 5 minutes until I dismiss it. I'd like to be able to change it to 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes. Right now, if I'm in a meeting or something and I snooze it, it keeps chiming every 5 minutes and gets annoying to the point where I have to dismiss it. Then I run the risk of forgetting it.

General :: S4 (I337-M) Clock Widget Time Update Delay

Nov 5, 2013

Running into another issue regarding my S4 here. Before the 4x2 clock widget I had would always be in sync to that of my carrier's time. Now, when I scroll around my phone or go back to check the time or even after unlocking my device, the widget is a good minute or two behind of my actual provider's time. It takes itself about 30 seconds to correct itself, I was just curious if there is anything I can do to fix this issue?

Games :: Virtual Keys In An Attempt To Press Both At Same Time

Jul 28, 2010

In many games there are actions that you need to hold Y and then press B , but for snesoid, since I am using my same thumb on the virtual keys in an attempt to press them both at the same time, it doesn't work. It will release y and then press B or just release y. This becomes apparent in games like Super Mario World when you run, then jump, you lose the momentum and just do a regular jump. On the droid x, the only solution I have found is to set B also to a hardware key, like one of the volume buttons, then you can see how its supposed to work when you hold Y then hit B. This affects many other games like DKC3 (jumping while holding barrel). Any help or ideas?

HTC Desire :: Delay After Hitting Home Button

Nov 9, 2010

New to the forum and the reason I signed up is I can't seem to find anything online about the problem I'm having with my HTC Desire. I am running a custom Froyo ROM (DeFrost 5.1) with ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7. My issue is that sometimes when I'm in an application (as far as I can tell, any application..haven't been able to pick up on any patterns, other than I have to be in the app for more than about 15 seconds) and I hit the home button, there is about a 5+ second delay before the phone reacts. While I'm waiting, the current app is fully functional as if I hadn't done anything although after waiting it will do it's usual process to get back to the home screen (fluid animation and everything). Hitting the home button multiple times seems to make the process go faster, although there is still a delay (the sense of it happening faster could simply be that I'm doing something instead of just sitting there too and it's not a real decrease in the delay). I have Launcher Pro Plus installed with "Keep in memory" and "Use homescreen caches" options enabled to try and make the home screen react faster. Memory usage preset is set to "High" and Homescreen cache type is set to normal. The weird thing about this is before I installed the custom ROM, I was experiencing the same thing with Android 2.1 w/ Sense UI since I got the phone (got it end of August) and if I remember correctly happened both with and without Launcher Pro installed (didn't know about the memory settings in Launcher Pro at the time so they were at default then). Is anyone experiencing a similar issue and/or does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? I really like Android and truly want to love it, but things like this just keep getting in the way. If it's an OS issue then Google really needs to work on this as it really is nuts when you want to switch apps to wait 5+ seconds before even getting started.

HTC Desire :: Change Tracks By Long Pressing Volume Keys?

Jul 6, 2010

After a (brief) look around here, I have a couple of questions. Is it possible to change tracks by long pressing the volume keys?

It seems this is possible on the nexus one. How would I (can I?) put this on my desire.

Would I have to root to get it to work or is it something that is/might come with 2.2?

Android :: Reducing Permissions

Aug 30, 2010

I've been following the "Is there a way to request permissions from a user as you need them?" thread with a lot of interest, but even if someone is convinced to make the Android permissions system better, it doesn't do anything for right now.

So, I thought I'd start a thread for coming up with alternative ways to reduce the permissions your app needs.

My app absolutely needs internet access (it's useless without it), and it uses Google Maps extensively (it's the main activity), so I have the following :

CODE:.................

I want to be able to know if I have a network connection, hence the ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE. I also try to use GPS hence the "ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION", and if GPS is not available I try to find the user's location using something else hence "ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" and of couse the "INTERNET" permission. I also use the "My Location' feature of Google Maps.

So... the question is : Is there a robust way to use Google Maps, and be able to send requests to my server without all those permissions (in a user friendly way) ?

I'm also experimenting with C2DM, so I have the following:

CODE:................

If I want to use C2DM, it seems I am stuck with those... Anybody know

Now... I also want to use the camera (optional) and vibrate (optional but most users will want it) so I have to add :

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.CAMERA" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.VIBRATE" />

Total 10 lines of permissions in the manifest.... AND this is AFTER removing 4 other permissions that a small percentage of users would have found very handy, AND not adding a few other features because of the permissions bloat they would have added

CALL_PHONE READ_CONTACTS GET_ACCOUNTS SEND_SMS

So... given all of this, is there a way to reduce the permissions I need any more than I already have? AND why do I need a total of 8 permissions just to ask my server for the data they want, and try to keep them current using C2DM? Surely those permissions could be reduced somehow.

Android :: Reducing List Sizes

Aug 24, 2010

I have a widget in my app (in single choice mode) and the list is longer than the screen so it requires scrolling. There is a lot of space above and below the text so I think that space could be reduced (and the font size) so that everything fit without scrolling. I haven't been able to figure out how to reduce that space.

I'm also trying to get a single checkbox below that list and i tried making 2 listviews on top of each other on the linear layout but it didn't work.

Android :: Secondary Market For Paid Apps

Apr 23, 2010

This just occurred to me today and it would be really nice. I've bought a few apps I no longer want/need and would be willing to sell them to someone else at a discount to recoup some of my loss.Any thoughts on this? I think it would need to be an update to the android market to have an option to 'transfer' to another user so updates for the app would show up in the market. You could keep the developers happy by giving them an option to make their apps eligible for this or not.I suppose this would only be feasible for apps that are also the type that are private and can't be backed up to the SD card with something like Astro File Manager.

General :: Android Device As A Secondary USB Monitor

Jan 3, 2012

So I was poking around the internet and saw the new Lenovo LT 1421 USB portable monitor. URL>....

I found myself intrigued by it and was thinking about getting one as I travel a lot for business and find that not having that second monitor like I have on my desktop at the office is a major point of frustration.

I was looking at it and thinking to myself "man that looks a lot like a tablet." I got to searching the internet for ways to turn an android tablet into a secondary monitor and found Apps like iDisplay and AirDisplay (iPad only) and Screen Slider that work over wifi but those methods all seem to be really slow and laggy. It would be better than what I have for sure but given that I'm often on hotel Wifi and it requires a network connection between devices that leaves me open to some vulnerabilities I would assume.
