HTC Desire :: 100% Awake Time - Short Battery Life

Apr 19, 2010

I got the fantastic Desire friday and I'm really enjoying it so far coming from iPhone and Hero.

Unfortunately I've run into a little issue: Up time and awake time (in Settings>About phone>Battery) are almost the same, meaning that the CPU never correctly throttles down when the phone is asleep. This is causing battery life to be rather short - On average I get 10-15 hours out of the phone with moderate settings.

By going to the battery info console (type *#*#4636#*#* in dialer) I managed to figure out that the calendar in some way is running and preventing the phone from sleeping (Partial wake in top dropdown). I did a factory reset and it hasn't seemed to help. There are 2 calendar related apps running: Obexservice and connectivityservice.

HTC Droid Eris :: Battery Life And Awake Time

Feb 28, 2010

I've read up on the battery life sticky and various other threads pertaining to battery life and awake time. But my phone seems to still be around 50-60 percent. I don't use my phone all too much, and neither do I have any programs set to auto do anything except for mail to go and do its thing. But I remembered I do have various Sense widgets... could those be draining my battery? I have the Facebook, Mail, Calender, Sense Clock, Music, Weather, A Calender reminder, and Bookmarks. I can't afford a better battery. Making 8.25 an hour really suckz. On a side note, I know that 8.25 is more than last year, and the year before that

Does anybody know the latest radio version that CM will work with? They say "install the latest radios" but I have no clue where/what radios those are. Hopefully that will be something to help me.

Motorola Droid :: Short Battery Life With BB.4?

Aug 5, 2010

Well lately my battery life has been horrid. If I am lucky I get 7-8 hours. That's with little to no internet use and just texting. Like now I'm at 70% and my phones been unplugged for 1 hour and all I have done is text a little and browse Facebook via the app for a little. I'm using BB .4 with the stock kernel. I was gettin better battery life than this before.

HTC Eris :: Short Battery Life On Newly Rooted Phone

Nov 22, 2010

This is the first time I've rooted a phone, and i picked the Kaos Froyo V38 as the rom, but I've noticed since i did all of this my battery has been far far worse than what it was un-rooted. Today, for example i had my phone off the charger and on vibrate (with gps, mobile network off) and i was down to under 15% in under 5 hours. This is so much worse. Is it because i'm now running 2.2? What can i do to help this besides wiping the battery data (in the recovery menu)? I'm not really good with all of this yet, so some suggestions would be wonderful.

Samsung Captivate :: Spontaneously Shuts Off - Short Battery Life

Sep 18, 2010

Ive been stalking the forums for a few weeks, reading up on all the issues and things associated with this phone and i can say ive experienced most of them (excluding rooting issues, i havent rooted).

*(of course) gps issues
*phone spontaneously shuts off and battery has to be removed before it will turn back on
*randomly awakes itself from sleep just to display the lock screen
*painfully short battery life
*no signal for a long time, have to restart phone several times before it returns.

These have all plagued me horribly the past month or so. then today it decided it wanted to....::gasp:: behave?

My battery still had half its life left when i got home tonight and its usually dead or yelping for a charge by that time (activity/usage the same today too). pages loaded quickly today and i had a signal all day.

Jelly Bean :: ZTE Valet Short Battery Life Due To WiFi?

Feb 8, 2014

We have 2 new Tracfone ZTE Valets. Android 4.1.1 Mine gets 3 days of idle battery life while my wife's gets less than one day.
Charge both, unplug and leave overnight. Mine has 96% charge in morning, hers 65%.

The battery section shows Phone Idle and Cell Standby using about 33% battery each on hers. On her phone the WIFI is listed as using about 33% as well, while mine is 5-6%.

For some reason "The Weather Channel" on mine is listed as using about 50% battery, but charge lasts days while idle. (I assume the % means it's share of the power being used, not battery capacity)

The Tracfone "My Service" app/widget on hers was stuck 'pending reply' and using relatively large amount of data (17meg) while mine used perhaps a few k data. I assume it was repeatedly calling home. Uninstall/re-install and now it gets answer, uses little data (I include this just for recent related history)

Both phones are set to "Keep wifi on while asleep NEVER". From reading this should increase data usage on cell and perhaps even increase battery drain - but it doesn't drain my phone sitting right next to hers. 3-4 bars on cell service.

I read that "Location Services" could be turning the wifi on trying to determine location. It's true all three of the location options ARE checked, but again they are also checked on mine. GPS is ON on both as well. Bluetooth OFF, screen dim.

It is now 12:15 am est. My phone ate it's first battery for breakfast and lunch and died at 2:15. HTC EVO 4G :: Battery - Awake And Up Time The Same

Nov 23, 2010

I'm writing because I've recently removed the HtcLockScreen.apk file from my phone to get the vanilla Android lock screen, which I like a lot better than HTC's. However, someone mentioned that it could affect my battery life and to keep an eye out on my up time and awake time. Well, before and after a restart, the up time and awake time are exactly the same. Does this mean the phone isn't sleeping? If so, how can I fix this? I'm running a rooted EVO with 2.2 and no custom ROM's.

HTC EVO 4G :: Battery - Awake Time - 4G

Aug 1, 2010

A little history: Had the phone since launch. Did most of the battery "tricks" when they came out: GSM fix, stop GTalk auto login, tried the on-off-on charge thing, but never ever got more than a minute of red LED before it turned green again, turned auto-sync off, etc. I usually have what I consider pretty good battery life. I've almost never run out of power during the day, and the few times I did it was because of pretty heavy (for me) usage. When I try to see how long I can go without charging I've usually gotten through 28-30 hours before I had to plug in. (please spare me the "your battery suxxx! I've gone 7 months since my last charge and I'm at 98%" posts)

So last night I charged to full battery, unplugged cause I had to charge my BT headphones too, then went to bed. 7+ hours later I wake up and my battery is around 10%. Usually when I unplug I lose less than 10% through the night.

So here is the obvious culprit: I've recently gotten stable 4G in my home and I forgot to turn it off when I went to bed. Easy game.

But....................

I went to look at a few settings to confirm that it wasn't something else and I see something really odd.

Up Time was 120 hours
Awake Time was 117 hours?

Now, if I am understanding this properly, this means my phone was booted up 5 days ago and of those 5 days my phone was only asleep for 3 hours? Is this possible? (I am no techie so I very well could be misunderstanding it)

I have not been having battery problems for all 5 days, only last night, but these numbers seem to indicate I should barely have been able to get through half a day without the battery dying for this entire period. I looked at my "running services" and there were a ton of things that had been running for the entire 120 hours. I have checked this in the past when reading battery threads, but since I have been satisfied with my battery life in general, it's not something I really check regularly, so I have no clue if this is a recent development or not.

The battery usage showed around 42-43% for both Phone Idle and Cell Standby since I unplugged last night.

I also noticed that I had turned off auto-syncing, but still had background data "always on". But again, this is something that would have been the case for the entire last 5 days (and more, really), so it should not be the cause of last night's drop.

HTC Hero :: My Battery Is Draining Fast / Awake Time High

Feb 22, 2010

Before everybody redirects me to the standard "ways to extend your battery life" threads, I believe I've tried all the usual tricks, which is why I'm posting another thread. This is really starting to drive me nuts. Up until a few weeks ago, I was getting good battery life. A couple of days worth with normal usage, which I think is reasonable with all considered. But now, it lasts about half a day, which is obviously not much use when you can only charge it at night.I've been checking the "awake time" and sometimes it just keeps staying high. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When the awake time is high, it is also warm to the touch, as if it is doing a lot of processing or something.

I've also been using "spare parts" to see what appears under "partial awake". I have never seen anything under this which accounts for the awake time. For example, the awake time might say "15 hrs", but "partial awake" in spare parts shows the biggest thing as being "Android system", but only taking "2 mins".I have (as far as I can tell) disabled the standard HTC messages app, and am now using Handcent SMS.I have turned off bluetooth and GPS, but leave wifi and mobile data on. I know switching these off saves power, but I've always had them on without as much drain as I do now.I have done a factory reset, and reinstalled all my usual apps, and left off any which I don't really need. All seemed well for a few days, but then the drain started again.

I have a feeling my battery drain is due to an update to an app, but as it's not consistent, I can't figure out which app or update it could be.As it is, with the battery lasting for less time than I am out in the day, it makes it a really rubbish phone, and just not fit for purpose. Is there any other way, other than using "spare parts", that I can tell what is using my power?

HTC Desire HD :: Up - Awake And Time Since Last Charge

Nov 17, 2010

I discovered the battery status information from the settings menu yesterday and was wondering if someone could clarify Up Time and Awake Time for me? Currently my uptime is 131 hours, and awake time something like 29. Am I right in thinking that these are the numbers since I got the phone (or put the battery in, I guess). This would seem to indicate that when I turn the phone off at night I'm not really turning it off - is that the case? I'd like to know the time that the phone has been on since last charge as then I'd get a good idea of how long I'm getting from a charge - I can't see this anywhere, can anyone recommend and app/widget for it?

HTC Incredible :: Battery Life Jumped Big Time

Oct 7, 2010

I don't know what happened different since I booted my phone yesterday at 7:00 am, but all of a sudden, my battery life has jumped significantly. I run the Seidio 1750. Yesterday, I went ALL DAY with normal usage (multiple texts, calendar appt reminders, a few brief calls with both wifi and bluetooth on constantly. My k-9 mail syncs with work e-mail every minute, and gmail wireless sync is on for two accounts) and I still had 81% battery remaining when I went to bed at 10:30 last night! I haven't shut it down yet just to see how far it will make it.Right now, my battery usage screen shows Up Time of 31:09 with Awake time of 4:16. I'm still showing 62% remaining battery!!!I'm wondering if one of the multiple automatic updates that occurred in the marketplace corrected a former battery hog (gmail maybe?)Anyone have any insight into this incredible improvement all of a sudden? I'm almost afraid to perform my usual overnight shut down and charge in case this is just a fluke occurrence.I'll post an update when I finally get a low battery warning to see how long she'll run on a single charge.

Mar 23, 2010

This is kind of a detailed question, but basically, I have been reading through some threads and came across someone who wrote that keeping the wifi turned on to 'never sleep' optimizes your battery life by a lot (instead of using mobile connection). So I set this up, but I also have the app Advanced Task Killer and I am trying to figure out if I need to set the wifi to the ignore list (so that it doesn't get killed everytime) or if Advanced Task Killer doesn't effect this.I am just trying to optimize my battery so I can actually use the internet without it dying on me so quickly. I charged it all night and literally 5 minutes after I unplugged it, my phone was down to 90% life.

Motorola Droid X :: Battery Life Improves With Time?

I think it was listed under tips to keep phone performance speedy.I have been doing this when i remember, maybe 2 or 3 times a week. The last few days, I noticed my phone had considerably more battery life when I got home from work. I have "smart mode" battery profile. No task killer.Right now I am at 90% battery level, 5 h 40 min since unplugged. I had bluetooth on about an hour, wifi off whole time, about 5 min phone calls and about 10 texts. I have checked e-mail a few times. Pretty light use but I have been busy at work this morning.

HTC Desire HD :: No More Lag - Better Battery Life

Nov 10, 2010

What started as a discussion over at XDA-Developers to try and resolve serious lag problems that some users experienced with their DHD is now proving to be a resolution to most of the problems reported with this device. Apparently turning 'usb debugging mode' ON is the resolution. The thread was first started by a user who noticed that whenever he was experiencing lag issues an Android process called /INIT was taking anywhere from 70% to 100% of his CPU usage. /INIT is a core process to the Android bootup sequence which should go 'dormant' after the bootup itself. What many users noticed after this was found is that whenever the lag problems started /INIT would take some 90% of the phone's CPU usage and not go back to its 'dormant' state. Even when the phone was idle and not being used. After applying the fix many people are reporting the phone running as smooth as they have even seen it running. Also users are reporting that recording video is no longer jerky and they can browse through the gallery smoothly and with no delays. The more relevant yet, and what may prove to be the best contribution from all this, is that some users are now reporting really amazing battery life performance. Its important to say that the so-called 'bug' doesnt seem to be HTC related but rather an Android 2.2 issue, as the performance issues are also being reported on other handsets running the latest Google OS - with some sources reporting that Google is soon to release an update to Froyo 2.2, possibly to resolve this bug. In order to turn 'usb debugging mode' ON go to: menu >> settings >> applications >> development.

HTC Desire :: Battery Life Increase

Sep 7, 2010

According to a lecturer at uni, mobile devices use more power when they have to try and hold a connection (wifi or mobile network) that is further away.

Apparently moving your router closer will allow the device to conserve energy by allowing it to power down it's radio because it's not having to broadcast it's signal as far. This also extends to cell towers - it seems living a long way away from one will make your phone work harder to keep a 3G/EDGE/GPRS signal and thus wastes battery. I'm inclined to take his word for it, what with a PhD under his belt on the subject!

Heres a new battery saving tip

I think this holds some truth, when I was in London over the summer I swear my battery used to die so much quicker because it kept having to try desperately to hold onto weak signals being blocked by all the built up areas. Not a lot anyone can do about it but it might go some way to explaining the differences in battery life people are reporting.

HTC Desire :: Increased Life For Battery

Aug 12, 2010

I can take no credit for this as I read about it over on XDA but after trying it out exactly as mentioned I can 110% state my battery improved immediately.I was usually getting a day tops sometimes loosing all juice around 11pm after being unplugged from around 7.30am. Well I stumbled across this in a thread discussing the Neophyte Rom im using and it actually worked for me. Yesterday after a good 20 - 30 minutes of phone calls , lots of emails and texts I went to bed at about 12.40 am and my battery was at 60% still. Now today after being unplugged for 2.5 hrs Ive had around 3 emails 1 text and 4 minutes worth of phone calls I'm still on 96%. I have 3G on all the time 1 email account updates every 30 minutes and gmail is push, twitter updates every hour. I dont have wifi on and my screen brightness is 20%. I am rooted and running SETCPU with the CPU down to minimum when the screen is off, but I had that before also. So all in all try it out and see if it works for you, I think it has for me.
