My new htc hero is having trouble with my wifi/router, it conects if i turn the router off than on but then the connection drops, i then go to search for my modem and it says signal is strong but yet when i click on connect nothing happens, I'm sure its a setting on the router itself as my blackberry had the same trouble.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm on my third 'X'.Both returns have been for the identical reason.3G drops seemingly at random and then hangs on 1x for 'x' amount of time before it reverts back.Yes I can manually kick start the thing by going into airplane mode but this is ridiculous.I've tried all the other band-aid approaches; hard reset, *228/1, *228/2, etc.Nothing fixes the problem.This happens way to often to be considered a fluke.I can not afford to have this happen while in navigation mode as it renders that function useless.I really need to know from someone this in fact is A) identified and B) being addressed by Moto and/or VZW. If I can't I'm afraid I will have to return this and leave VZW.It's too bad as the phone is perfect except for this very annoying bug. Does anyone have solid information on this?
View 40 Replies View RelatedI have been an avid iphone user for the past 2 years, but with having went through 4 iphone 4 handsets and still not happy i decided to make the jump. anyhow, on to the matter in hand, is anyone having wifi signal strength issues? If i'm close to the router. i.e 5-10feet and line of sight, it works fine, with 3 bars. but if i move farther away say into my kitchen, 20ft and through plasterboard walls it will drop to 2 bars. this is understandable, but it will then fluctuate between no bars, to 3, then to 1 then 2, then 3, then..... you get the drift. i can accept strength deterioration with distance, but for it to be so erratic i find it a bit strange. i have changed the channel my router broadcasts on and it hasn't made any difference. other than that very happy with the phone, just getting used to Android. Is anyone else noticing this with their wifi? all my other devices have a constant strength, be it 1, 2 or 3 bars and no erratic behavior. is it faulty wifi, should i sent it back to Amazon for a replacement?? or is it just the way it is?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was having issues with constant dropped calls from my house, which is in an area according to the Sprint coverage map that should have excellent coverage. I went to my Sprint store, which is a repair center, and they told me to go to menu>settings>Wireless controls>Mobile network settings>Roaming, and switch from Automatic to Sprint only. I did this, and have not dropped a call yet. The tech told me that depending on exactly where you are and where the nearest Sprint tower is compared to the nearest say Verizon tower, the phone will continuously try to switch between the two towers for the best signal when set to Automatic, and that can cause dropped calls, static calls etc. Ever since I switched this setting I have not dropped one single call or gotten any static, even with 0-1 bars for signal strength. He told me only use Automatic if you are in an area where your phone has no service due to no nearby Sprint tower.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAnyone else having an issue with their WiFi dropping at random times? I'm about 25' from my Verizon router, so signal strength isn't an issue. I don't even know when it's happening most of the time. I only realize because opening a page or downloading something is slow. I have the Sleep Policy set to Never, so it's not that. The strange thing is is I go into Wireless Settings, as soon as I click on Wireless, it picks the router back up and reconnects. I have several other devices on WiFi here and they are all working perfectly fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently upgraded my Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 all to Android 4.4 and as soon as I upgraded my Wi-Fi has been awful.The Wi-Fi is incredibly unstable, steaming media has major buffering / intermittency issues, messages sent over instant messaging apps are sometimes instant and sometimes take 30+ seconds to send.
Skype is the most telling of the issues as it randomly loses connection and my notifications literally never come through..Router Wi-Fi Settings: I've tried Channels, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11

I've been using my Desire on the net a bit today and a few times its decided to just drop back to the phone home screen and out of the internet all together.The back of the phone has got a bit warm so I'm wondering if its overheating and quitting out - has anyone else experienced this and is it normal?

I still have 3 / 4 bars and can receive text messages so I'm not sure what's wrong. It seems to have started since I've started using the Airplane mode but this could be a coincidence.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI noticed my phone has a tendency to drop calls when switching from HSDPA to 3G. My phone dropped calls about 5 times today, so I thought I'd do a little test... I rang someone (display showing 3G) then refreshed my GoogleMail app (display went to H) to see if the call stayed connected... well... it dropped the call. I did the exact same thing again... dropped the call. I tried this about 5 or 6 times using different apps to basically put my phone in HSDPA mode and it is dropping the call when switching between 3G and HSDPA...

My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
I have a Apple Time capsule I use for my router and I'm not getting very good signal when using wifi on my EVO. If I'm sitting on my couch 8 ft away it only gets 1 signal bar on the phone. If I walk up to it with my phone the signal starts to get better. Any advice? I have the Time Capsule because I use a MAC. Just FYI before the bashing starts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOriginally when I contacted HTC about wifi issues I got an email reply with a potential solution in it to try. That solution didn't improve anything so today I received a phone call from them. The person I spoke with was trying to collect as much info as possible. Evo software version, s/n, meid, type of router i use, distance away from router when signal drops out etc.I asked him if they'd been able to find something wrong with hardware or software so far and he said i'm the first person that he was actually able to get a hold of to get feedback. Seems like this is in the infant stages.While the evo was booting up I asked if there are anymore OTA updates coming soon and he said they are working on a lot of fixes right now so it was hard to say. I also asked when evo would be getting 2.2 and he didn't sound optimistic about getting it soon. His understanding was that nexus recently released to press that it was getting 2.2, he doesn't think the actual phones even have it yet.

Speed test shows me getting 3200 kbps down and 1200 kbps up.With two bars I am getting 8700 down and 2400 up. I never get 3 bars. Any analysis of these numbers? Are they typical? Anything I can do to achieve 3 bars?

My normal day consists of getting up, going to work, and coming home. I spend maybe 2-2.5 hours away from the house while driving to/from work, picking/dropping off kids, going to the grocery store, etc.So usually when I want to access something on my phone, I will be around a WiFi signal I can use (Home or Office).I would think with WiFi on the EVO, thats where most of my data usage is going to be.
