I just had little scare, my WiFi signal went down for about 15 minutes. Luckily, my 3g signal was still up. But, how freaked out do you get or would you get if your signal went down? Kinda shows how much I relay on the internet

Received an update on my Eris a few days back for Google Maps (I think that was the application that was targeted). Since then, when I use the Navigator the GPS has had a problem connecting. Sometimes it searches for a GPS signal for almost 30 minutes. I'm in the heart of Denver and have not had this problem before the update. Did anyone else update and are now having connection issues?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an application which continuously fetches data from the server , downloads and plays songs ..My app runs on WiFi. After around 30 minutes , the application loses connectivity .. At that point of time if a browser is opened it connects to the internet.. But my app has lost connectivity.If i make explicit requests thru the app by user interaction the connectivity is regained, but automatic disconnection happens many times.. Even if the setting for Wifi always on is set, this this happens. This issue i observed on HTC Magic and Samsung Europa..Does anyone have an idea why this happends.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince a few month my WiFi does not work properly. When I activate it, it automatically connects to the access point. But after 3 minutes, the connection stops working. The WiFi symbol in the status bar disappears and 3g starts working. When i disable and reenable wifi everything works fine again for 3 minutes. I already tried a static IP. Other devices (laptop) have no problems with the same network.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been reading the wifi threads on here, the Verizon forums, and the Motorola site forums. I've changed the router settings on my home wifi router according to directions found on those sites. For the first time today, I tried wifi at a different location. It worked perfectly at first, but dropped the connection after about 20 minutes and wouldn't reconnect. It shows that it's connected, but data won't refresh.
So my question is, is the wifi problem with the Droid X something that everyone is afflicted with when trying to hook up to 802.11n routers, or is it only some Droid X's. The 3G signal in my house and at work isn't strong enough for me to download larger files like audio books without timing out. I'm wondering if it's worth trying for a replacement or if I should wait for some kind of software fix. I don't hold out much hope for that anytime soon - the Verizon rep was completely unaware that there was any kind of issue with wifi on the Droid X. I know they are generally clueless, but I would think if it was widespread enough they would have at least heard about it...
After dealing iwth this, I understand why Droid X owners are using 5X as much data as other Verizon smartphone users. We don't have wifi options...
I am building an application reading the signal strength of each available WiFi access point. I've written code like:

However, I have two problems:
In debugging, configs only contains one connection. However, I can see that there are several APs available in the system's wifi setting. i.e. configs is an incomplete list. I don't know how to get the signal strength in Wifi Configuration. I am using HTC Hero and Android 1.5.
I want to reach out to others here before I take my Moment back to Best Buy to exchange it for another Moment.
My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
I have a Apple Time capsule I use for my router and I'm not getting very good signal when using wifi on my EVO. If I'm sitting on my couch 8 ft away it only gets 1 signal bar on the phone. If I walk up to it with my phone the signal starts to get better. Any advice? I have the Time Capsule because I use a MAC. Just FYI before the bashing starts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOriginally when I contacted HTC about wifi issues I got an email reply with a potential solution in it to try. That solution didn't improve anything so today I received a phone call from them. The person I spoke with was trying to collect as much info as possible. Evo software version, s/n, meid, type of router i use, distance away from router when signal drops out etc.I asked him if they'd been able to find something wrong with hardware or software so far and he said i'm the first person that he was actually able to get a hold of to get feedback. Seems like this is in the infant stages.While the evo was booting up I asked if there are anymore OTA updates coming soon and he said they are working on a lot of fixes right now so it was hard to say. I also asked when evo would be getting 2.2 and he didn't sound optimistic about getting it soon. His understanding was that nexus recently released to press that it was getting 2.2, he doesn't think the actual phones even have it yet.

Speed test shows me getting 3200 kbps down and 1200 kbps up.With two bars I am getting 8700 down and 2400 up. I never get 3 bars. Any analysis of these numbers? Are they typical? Anything I can do to achieve 3 bars?

My normal day consists of getting up, going to work, and coming home. I spend maybe 2-2.5 hours away from the house while driving to/from work, picking/dropping off kids, going to the grocery store, etc.So usually when I want to access something on my phone, I will be around a WiFi signal I can use (Home or Office).I would think with WiFi on the EVO, thats where most of my data usage is going to be.
When using android apps, they use WiFi (if available) correct?
My new htc hero is having trouble with my wifi/router, it conects if i turn the router off than on but then the connection drops, i then go to search for my modem and it says signal is strong but yet when i click on connect nothing happens, I'm sure its a setting on the router itself as my blackberry had the same trouble.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been an avid iphone user for the past 2 years, but with having went through 4 iphone 4 handsets and still not happy i decided to make the jump. anyhow, on to the matter in hand, is anyone having wifi signal strength issues? If i'm close to the router. i.e 5-10feet and line of sight, it works fine, with 3 bars. but if i move farther away say into my kitchen, 20ft and through plasterboard walls it will drop to 2 bars. this is understandable, but it will then fluctuate between no bars, to 3, then to 1 then 2, then 3, then..... you get the drift. i can accept strength deterioration with distance, but for it to be so erratic i find it a bit strange. i have changed the channel my router broadcasts on and it hasn't made any difference. other than that very happy with the phone, just getting used to Android. Is anyone else noticing this with their wifi? all my other devices have a constant strength, be it 1, 2 or 3 bars and no erratic behavior. is it faulty wifi, should i sent it back to Amazon for a replacement?? or is it just the way it is?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI launch the wifi tether program, but my laptop (a whopping 6 inches away) finds NO SIGNAL. I am running Bugless Beast 0.1 Froyo with P3's 250-1000MHz kernel. Everything else works great, including Flash 10.1 but I can't seem to get wifi tethering working. Not a show-stopper, but a nuisance I would like to fix. Anyone else with this problem? And have any of you figured out a fix?
