HTC Desire :: XT9 Default - How To Deactivate It

Jun 15, 2010

Using the original HTC messaging system and now Handcent (awesome app), it always defaults to XT9 to text, which I don't like. Can anyone advise me how to turn it off or change the setting for it? I've had a look but cant find where to change it.

Another small hindrance that I find with the messaging system (again with both) is the delay when entering two different letters from the same key using the phone keypad. I prefer the phone key pad and theres a delay which i find to long. Eg, if I enter A and want to enter B straight after that, the delay before I can do that I find to long.

Nexus :: Using Home Replacement - Deactivate

Feb 3, 2010

(before question shout out to how great home ++ is) ok so i've tried ish some home replacements before(and by tried i mean installed didnt like look or quite get it and uninstall(when i first got phone)). i started to youtube home++ became very intrested and installed it and love it so far! great alternative i think everyone should try it out! ok now to question this is my first time posting so hello all! now that i have home++ installed i notice that my original "home screen" is always running in the background,so is there a way to "deactivate"(for lack of better terminology). doesnt it take up cpu/gpu resources and then new home screen does also in turn draining battery or slowing phone down? if no way to deactivate should i goto original and turn off stuff like live wallpapers and also remove any widgets that update regularly so i dont have it running twice?

I have an app that plays music (it's actually part of a scheduled alarm). I want to play music through some bluetooth speakers I have already paired the phone with, but I don't want bluetooth to run while I am not using that app or after the app has shut down -- I want to reduce any unnecessary load on the battery.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Deactivate Google Account On Laptop

May 27, 2010

I had to deactivate the Google account (due to a privacy issue) that I was using on my laptop and it was the one I was using on the phone also. Now that I've deactivated it, I am no longer able to use the android apps, or change things within the phone because on not being able to log into that account. The login page comes up with the old account asking me for my password, but of course, like I said, it is no longer in use, and it doesn't let me change the user name as I've made another goggle account. I have tried to change things in the settings, but all I've done it seems is to have screwed it up more.

Android :: Any Chance To Deactivate Lock Pattern In Froyo From Code?

Jun 8, 2010

I provide a small tool called PatternControl via the market that give the users the opportunity to temporary deactivate the Android "lock pattern" for a definable amount of time. With other words: After entering the pattern, the pattern becomes deactivated for i.e. 5mins and re activates it self afterwards. Until now (Android < 2.2) this was only possible by changing the settings directly, because there was no related API provided. (i.e.with something like set Boolean (Settings .System.LOCK_PATTERN_ENABLED, enabled)) It is clear that this in not a good way, but from my knowledge there was no alternative. My hope was, that Froyo would introduce a new API to handle things like that "legally". With the new security model of Android 2.2 writing to this kind of settings is now disallowed and the PolicyManager class seems just to offer password complexity options. So here is my question: Is there still any way to temporary deactivate the "lock pattern" as long as Android does not support such a delay functions natively?

HTC Desire :: Desire Default Messages App

May 31, 2010

My question is about the default messages application which manages the SMS/MMS messages. I have some contacts who use different mobiles depending on their location (French phone in France and UK phone for the UK). When I receive a message from such a contact, as far as I know, I only have the option to reply (by clicking on the text input box) to the number the message came from, even if the contact already has several numbers stored...Is there anyway round this apart from creating a new message separately?

HTC Desire :: Set The Default Email App

Jul 4, 2010

Just got a new HTC Desire. Loving it and having a tinker but I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to. I have set up the gmail app(when I first got the phone) and I have a couple of issues with it. Namely not sending mails with attachments until you actually go to the sent folder and refresh. But anyway, I digress...I want to use K9 as my default, but even when I have NO email apps running and the Desire does a data sync and sees I have a new email, it chooses to tell me this through the gmail app. How can I set the Desire to tell me this through K9 ? I see under settings>applications>manage applications, that each of the mail programes has a section called "Launch by default" and a button to clear defaults, but this section is greyed out for me on all 3 of my mail apps (gmail, mail and K9)

HTC Desire :: SMS App Default Setting

Jul 10, 2010

Out of curiosity could anyone with a Desire let me know if their SMS app settings are the same as mine Unbranded Desire on the Orange network. In 'Manage Applications' if I look at the stock HTC SMS app (Messages) the 'Launch by default' section is greyed out and says 'No defaults set'.Same thing when I look at the 'Application info' for Handcent. The problem this is causing me is that I can't set a 'default' SMS app in the GOTO lock screen app. A pop up should launch in the GOTO app asking me to set a default but it doesn't and so I can only use the stock SMS app with the GOTO lockscreen.Spoke to the developer about it and he thinks it's an issue specific to the Desire so out of curiosity I'm keen to know if other Desires have the same default settings as mine mentioned above.

HTC Desire :: Default Contact Picture Changes

Jun 8, 2010

I have all my contacts in Gmail and sync'd with facebook on my desire. Some contacts I have images in google too (which are low res as we all know).I used Facebook Sync (or fbSync) from the market to pull images from facebook and upload to Gmail. This appears to work fine.Out of the contacts that have images for facebook and google contacts, some default to using the FB image (which is what I want) and some default to google.I need google images because HulloMail VVM only uses gmail contacts so I don't get a contact image unless I have a gmail ones for my voicemails.I have tried to find a trend between the contacts that default to google and those which don't but have been unsuccessful in finding one. I have tried turning off contacts sync but also to no avail.Has anyone else had this issue, or has anyone got any idea on what could be causing this please? I've been trawling the web for too long now and can't find any reference to this issue at all.

HTC Desire :: Default Browser Or Switch?

May 10, 2010

I really like the default browser with the HTC desire. It seems fast and intuitive, and above all I love the way it zooms - formatting text to fit the window, and especially the way it seems to 'snap' to the edges of tables - great for reading news sites where the content is sandwiched in between loads of junk.

But I've never used a different browser on a smartphone, and I wondered how others compared. It's not perfect - swtiching between windows is cumbersome and there doesn't seem to be tabs - which means that sometimes pages can be doing stuff in the background and you'll never even know. And the menus and controls aren't ideal - it's all there but it's annoying having to hit menu then more before you can hit the 'home' key.

So are there any other browsers that have the speed, perfect layout, and intuitive feel of the default browser but better controls and other features? Would appreciate some recommendations of others to try

Does anyone know how to change the default email app to use when selecting a contact with an email address? I made the mistake of letting my girlfriend fiddle with my phone while I was setting it up, and she chose mail instead of gmail for sending to email addresses AND pressed the 'always use this option' tab, so now I can't fingure out how to change it back - I know that under the 'always use this option' tab there was a message telling you how to change it, but I didn't get to read what it said before she pressed accept! Now whenever I press on a favourite that has an email address associated to it it takes me to the POP email screen, and I don't have a POP email account! How can I switch it back to gmail?
