May 27, 2010I had to deactivate the Google account (due to a privacy issue) that I was using on my laptop and it was the one I was using on the phone also. Now that I've deactivated it, I am no longer able to use the android apps, or change things within the phone because on not being able to log into that account. The login page comes up with the old account asking me for my password, but of course, like I said, it is no longer in use, and it doesn't let me change the user name as I've made another goggle account. I have tried to change things in the settings, but all I've done it seems is to have screwed it up more.

Jun 15, 2010Using the original HTC messaging system and now Handcent (awesome app), it always defaults to XT9 to text, which I don't like. Can anyone advise me how to turn it off or change the setting for it? I've had a look but cant find where to change it.
Another small hindrance that I find with the messaging system (again with both) is the delay when entering two different letters from the same key using the phone keypad. I prefer the phone key pad and theres a delay which i find to long. Eg, if I enter A and want to enter B straight after that, the delay before I can do that I find to long.

Feb 3, 2010(before question shout out to how great home ++ is) ok so i've tried ish some home replacements before(and by tried i mean installed didnt like look or quite get it and uninstall(when i first got phone)). i started to youtube home++ became very intrested and installed it and love it so far! great alternative i think everyone should try it out! ok now to question this is my first time posting so hello all! now that i have home++ installed i notice that my original "home screen" is always running in the background,so is there a way to "deactivate"(for lack of better terminology). doesnt it take up cpu/gpu resources and then new home screen does also in turn draining battery or slowing phone down? if no way to deactivate should i goto original and turn off stuff like live wallpapers and also remove any widgets that update regularly so i dont have it running twice?

I have an N4 and have noticed (maybe since the last update to the YT app?) that there is an icon overlaying any video I watch, it's a rectangle with what looks like a wireless signal in the lower left that is there through the entire video. Accessing YT via Chrome it's not there. I'm almost always on wi-fi when watching videos.

While the data is being fetched currently i am showing a dialog. problem is that while dialog is being shown it puts entire activity (i mean the whole screen) to background. Nov 19, 2013I'm using latest Cyanogenmod ROM on my Galaxy Nexus. Changed the Softkeys and Navbar to transparency and it looks great. But it seems that in standard design there is an gradient Overlay on the Background Image?!
Is there anyway to remove that? i will attach screenshot. If I'm changing the Design to any other Theme like "holo glass" it works fine...no overlay, nothing. So there should be a way by decompiling SystemUI or something?

I have been successful and have a running service now. The service displays some text on top left corner of screen all the time while user can freely interact with rest of apps in normal manner. What I'm doing is subclass ViewGroup and add it to root window manager with flag TYPE_SYSTEM_ OVERLAY. Now I want to add a button/clickable-image in place of this text which can receive touch events on itself. I tried overriding "onTouchEvent" for the whole ViewGroup but it does not receive any event. How can I receive events only on certain parts of my always-on-top view group?

Jun 8, 2010I provide a small tool called PatternControl via the market that give the users the opportunity to temporary deactivate the Android "lock pattern" for a definable amount of time. With other words: After entering the pattern, the pattern becomes deactivated for i.e. 5mins and re activates it self afterwards. Until now (Android < 2.2) this was only possible by changing the settings directly, because there was no related API provided. (i.e.with something like set Boolean (Settings .System.LOCK_PATTERN_ENABLED, enabled)) It is clear that this in not a good way, but from my knowledge there was no alternative. My hope was, that Froyo would introduce a new API to handle things like that "legally". With the new security model of Android 2.2 writing to this kind of settings is now disallowed and the PolicyManager class seems just to offer password complexity options. So here is my question: Is there still any way to temporary deactivate the "lock pattern" as long as Android does not support such a delay functions natively?

Currently the only things that I can see to make animated are Views but Overlays don't extend View functionality. My next thought was to try to lodge a View into the overlay, but the redundancy makes it seem like this solution is incorrect. I grabbed the android source hoping that I could just look at MyLocationOverlay source and that would let me know how the animation was supposed to be done, but I can't find the source for anything involving maps. Android :: Overlay Vs ItemizedOverlay?
Oct 24, 2009I want to draw 20 pins on a MapActivity. Each pin has a small pin image, but I have to dynamically overlay a small bit of text over each pin at runtime.
Looks like I have two options:
#1) Itemized Overlay This is the suggested method. I put all my pins in one ItemizedOverlay object, and that counts as a single Overlay object for my MapView.
#2) One Overlay per pin Create a separate Overlay instance for each pin I need to render.
The problem I see with using method #1 is that you need to set a drawable for the item. This would mean that I need to create 20+20 (one for focused/non-focused state each) bitmaps and keep them in memory for the duration of my app. On the other hand, Overlay lets you override the draw method so I can do the simple compositing at runtime.
The other issue with Itemized Overlay - although it handles focus for you - does it move the focused item to the front of the z-order when selected?
Android :: Memory Leak In Map Overlay
Jan 10, 2010I have been banging away at this one for weeks and I feel like I have exhausted my research capabilities. I am hoping that someone will see my error in the code posted below. The code is completely functional doing everything I need, but there is a major memory leak. When I try to track memory in the DDMS, the VM Heap tells me that my object count is relatively stable and the used memory is also relatively stable (it comes back down to a similar value after each GC after panning).
When I look at the memory pie chart, the free memory loses over 1meg of capacity with each map pan (overlay reload) and the Unknown memory grows. I have not found anything with the allocation tracker. Functional Summary: I load overlays onto a map based on data I get from polling my server. When I pan the map far enough I clear the overlays and load new ones.

Nov 12, 2009I've been trying almost everything and been searching and reading everywhere on the net. I just can't seem to find the correct way of doing this.
I have a MapActivity with a MapView and I want to draw something on an Overlay. I'm overwriting the draw-method, and I can easily draw straight on the canvas using a paint. My problem is I want to merge some circles and afterwards color them. Therefore I want to create a Bitmap and then draw on that. I just don't know what to use. Should I use a mutable Bitmap, a BitmapDrawable or am I simply going in the wrong direction.
The reason I want to do this is because I want to draw some kind of heatmap upon the Google Maps, and I need to merge and blend different circles, so they appear to be just one big blob.
