Probably a stupid question, but how do I set my default browser? I tried settings > applications > manage applications > internet.The 'Launch by default' section is all grayed out.If I try settings > applications > manage applications > xScope if i go on xscope settings > default browser.

I set Dolphin as my default browser. If I use the Google search widget, it opens up the stock browser, then if I click a link, it opens the link in Dolphin. How can I make the search default to Dolphin? What is the pay version of Dolphin and is it worth it?
View 43 Replies View RelatedOut of curiosity could anyone with a Desire let me know if their SMS app settings are the same as mine Unbranded Desire on the Orange network.In 'Manage Applications' if I look at the stock HTC SMS app (Messages) the 'Launch by default' section is greyed out and says 'No defaults set'.Same thing when I look at the 'Application info' for Handcent.The problem this is causing me is that I can't set a 'default' SMS app in the GOTO lock screen app. A pop up should launch in the GOTO app asking me to set a default but it doesn't and so I can only use the stock SMS app with the GOTO lockscreen.Spoke to the developer about it and he thinks it's an issue specific to the Desire so out of curiosity I'm keen to know if other Desires have the same default settings as mine mentioned above.

However, it is not only the system default, but it even opens links I click on in the Android provided browser (sometimes I both open). On your computer, when you click links in your non-default browser it doesn't send the links to the default one, and it shouldn't on this OS, either. Any ideas how to keep Dolphin as my system default browser, but not have it open links I click on in the Android web browser?

It will load the Google mobile homepage (and if I change the homepage then it loads that too), but if I navigate to any page then it says I have to force close it. Also, if I try to clear history then this crashes it also.
I haven't installed any new programs so I'm really stuck here.
I really like the default browser with the HTC desire. It seems fast and intuitive, and above all I love the way it zooms - formatting text to fit the window, and especially the way it seems to 'snap' to the edges of tables - great for reading news sites where the content is sandwiched in between loads of junk.
But I've never used a different browser on a smartphone, and I wondered how others compared. It's not perfect - swtiching between windows is cumbersome and there doesn't seem to be tabs - which means that sometimes pages can be doing stuff in the background and you'll never even know. And the menus and controls aren't ideal - it's all there but it's annoying having to hit menu then more before you can hit the 'home' key.
So are there any other browsers that have the speed, perfect layout, and intuitive feel of the default browser but better controls and other features? Would appreciate some recommendations of others to try
I downloaded opera mini and have it and the stock browser on my phone. When I got it, it asked what I wanted to use as default for internet. Well my bookmarks mainly and I chose the stock. Now, I'm in Nigeria and the internet isn't great on my phone, but I'm getting a 100Mb allowance today. I want to revert to Opera as my default cause it uses less Mb and I am here for a month so want to stay within my quota. Is there any way to do this?

All other programs seem to be able to connect via h/3G fine i.e. Market, Opera Mini, GMail etc...

And none would open. The little green bar gets stuck about 3mm in. I have a H showing in the status bar. When I first loaded the browsed and went to HTC - Mobile Phones, Smartphones, Cell Phones, PDAs this worked fine. However, this has also stopped loading as I type. EDIT: ww.htc.com now working (3 minutes later), Google is working, but still none of the above mentioned sites..
I am in Manchester UK and am on 3. I have been on 3 for quite a few years and have never had a problem with connecting in Manchester. I don't think it is a carrier problem as I am able to connect to the internet with other programs as already mentioned. Also, all the above mentioned sites open fine when I use WiFi.
It was mentioned on the other thread that someone has informed 3UK of the problem and they have informed HTC, but if any other people are having the same problem please detail it here and inform your carrier and HTC.
Just wondering what browser you guys are all using. I just rooted yesterday and have tried both chaosfroyo and xtrsense, but my browser is always zoomed way out. Is there a setting to fix this or possibly a better browser to istall?

Is there a way to change this default setting, to have it choose my Google Cal instead? > Gmail
> K9 email client
All three have been setup with email accounts.
Is there a way to set K9 as my preferred email app? Because everytime I receive an email, I get three sets of notifications (one from each app)
For the moment I've disabled the email notifications from Gmail and the default mail, but they still run in the background checking for messages which is really just a waste of CPU power and battery life.
Anything to keep them from running at all?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Launcher Pro and just yesterday I started having the issue where if you long-press Home and switch apps, you remove your default launch choice and then need to reselect it the next time you short-press on Home. It remembers the setting until I again long-press and use the app switcher.My question: how do I get this to stick? What 'app' is used to do the app switch by default, and is there anything else I could use to do this? I would hate to be stuck with this permanently, and I'm not thinking it is LauncherPro's fault. When I open the contacts app (People) there is an entry for my Facebook account that says "My Contact Card" but I don't really use Facebook. All my info is in an entry in Google contacts. However, system root is default set as R/O so to mange files USING my computer I need to change the permission to R/W using a file manager (such as root explorer). This is annoying, as I have to keep doing this in order to write to certail directories.
I would like the / directory (root) to be mounted as R/W as default so that I can quickly edit files on my PC without having to constantly change it to R/O. I want something that will automatically mount my phone's root dir into rw upon boot, without custom apps/having to manually mount as rw everytime it reboots.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I've set Dolphin as my default browser, when I click on a link to search for an app in the market I get a not found error. For instance, there is a link in Documents to Go (the paid key file) that is supposed to take you to the market to download the actual Documents to Go apps when I click on that link it opens the Dolphin browser and then there is a not found error. Before I set Dolphin as the default those types of links would open the market place to the application.
