View 6 RepliesI got an unlocked one from HTC, and when i was using my (now expired) orange sim card the data connectivity worked fine (HSDPA).
Now that i'm with T-mobile, can someone confirm that when they turn mobile browsing on, the 'Access point name is only "MOBILE WORLD_WAP"?
Then there's another option below that reads : "Mobile World" ..
The settings i have for that don't seem to be working, and it's messing everything up (market place won't update, internet doesn't work, and maps can't syncronise - EVEN THOUGH the "H" sign on working on the top left with both up and down arrows flashing/holding)..
The settings I have under "Mobile World" are:

Took my HTC Desire to Italy and since then have lost all mobile data connections - though works fine on WiFi. Switched on airplane mode for flights, and switched off data roaming to reduce overseas costs. But when switched back on to use internet couldn't get any network connection. Now back in the UK still same issue - no internet, and cannot send MMS picture messages - even when in strong 3G signal Tried all the options I can find but no joy at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedUnbranded, fully updated (2.1-update1), Desire. Three months old. No task killers installed. Just this past couple of days I've noticed it has not been showing the data connection symbol in the top bar, next to the signal strength bars. Try and connect to the internet or the market and get a 'failed' pop up window asking to either retry of cancel. Retry never works.
I go into settings > Wireless & Networks and disable Mobile Network, then enable it again and it flickers on then goes off again. Repeat this and it stays on for a while but always goes off again after about 20 minutes even though the Mobile Network is ticked green. Why is this happening? I'm missing emails because of this and it's a bit of a pain.
On the HTC Desire how do I tell if my phone is using the Internet? I have 500mb of internet and I dont know if my phone is on the internet after I close the browser. e.g. If I just return to the homepage after using facebook, does the browser automatically close and does not count as Internet usage anymore?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a HTC desire on Orange, I currently get 500 mb of data which im using up really fast with app downloads etc. Ive hooked up to my Wi-fi router now, so if I turn on the wi-fi and connect to the internet at home will this use my ISP data not my mobile data allowance?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCurrently using launcherpro as default but having a little problem with my data connection. Do you guys leave mobile internet on then use a data connection toggle like on switch pro to enable disable as and when you like? Or do you use a toggle like curvefish apn to rename and automatically connect to the network? Or do you turn it on and off via settings or the power button as and when you need it? Bit lost on the subject to be honest. Also when I go and turn mobile internet on in the settings under it it says something like connect to mobile internet when WiFi is unavailable. Is this the default setting or can it be changed to only connect when I want it to?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like advice from those with 2.2 on Orange. I've had my Desire for 2 months now and love it-apart from one thing-the damned Internet connection. Quite often, with a strong 3G+ (HSDPA) signal, my internet connection fails to load data. Then, a few minutes later, in the same location, it works perfectly. I know for a fact that this is not a network only problem. The reason I know this is because I previously used the exact same SIM in my iphone for 6 months in the very same locations and it always worked perfectly.
Therefore, my strong suspicion is that the problem is a result of the combination of the Orange branding on a Desire and the network itself. I'm sure I read of a couple of posters here who had the very same problems and when they moved to 2.2 the problem disappeared. Can anyone confirm? I've been waiting patiently for the Orange update to 2.2 but am getting fed up and I'm concerned that the Orange bloatware may still cause an issue after this. Hence, I'm considering a debrand and update myself.
So I've had my DHD for 3 days, done a little 3G browsing the usual stuff Facebook, emails etc., but nothing more as I used my home WiFi for the widget and app downloads. But today I got a text from Vodafone saying I was near my internet usage limit for the Month! Within 3 days!? I have a 750MB limit, which the chap in the shop assured me was enough to keep me happy as 'no one ever goes over that.'
I was happy with that even though my previous contract was unlimited internet as he said it would be ok. All I can think of is the email syncing, so turned that off. But what else could be causing me to go over the 750MB limit within 3 days? Surely thats a huge amount to be used?
I've tried to see if others have had data problems like mine, but apparently no one has posted on something of my magnitude.
I have 1 Gb of data a month...thats one of the biggest plans in Canada, and I cannot increase (student plan maximum). A few weeks ago, my 3G watchdog alerted me that I was over my 1Gb, and this was in a week span of a new billing cycle. I called Telus and they said it was a mistake, but later on my data usage on their site said I had used 500 Mb on that day!
Since then I had a few more instances where 400 or 500 Mb has been used on a day (almost all outgoing or transmitting data). This has to be a syncing problem or a bug. Not only do I not stream radio or youtube, but I usually only use facebook, twitter, read yahoo email, and weather updates.
I had to get a datablock for the rest of the billing month (since I had used up 2.2 Gb in 10 days) and now I'm monitoring my data wifi usage through data counter widget.
It would be wonderful if I could figure out what app is sucking all of my data...I have about 500 friends on facebook...I also went though and deleted almost all of my emails in my inbox (which was the problem with motorola data usage).
Yesterday, I was on the net on postsecret, and then on facebook (maybe 15 minutes total). Upon returning I saw I had used 510 Mb of transmitting data....
The only advice I got from Telus is to format my phone and start over...No other problems with the HTC desire have been reported to my provider.
The H symbol is displayed at the top of the screen and the arrows occasionally flash. The 'up arrow' flashes more often than the 'down arrow'. I have at least 2-4 bars reception.
However when I try to browse there is a 'data connectivity problem' and websites will not load. None of my apps, gmail, facebook etc will sync.
I am on t-mobile.
Fixes I have tried:
- turn on/off
- APN settings check
- Airplane mode
Have spent hours looking at other 3g threads, but have not found an identical problem. My phone says im connected to 3g ('H'), but will not update email or let me access websites on the browser.
Right basically you can find the UK T mobile internet settings on the T mobile website. On the Speed Test app, the highest speeds I get are 1.8m/bs downloads and around 500kpbs upload. However, those were at off peak times at night etc (probably when nobody is using the net).Generally I get anything from 0.3 m/bs to 0.9 m/bs though. Lately I've been experiencing some inconsistent internet speeds and reconnection attempts so for I've gone back to the default settings. Tbh though I'm not sure if it makes much difference.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAre there any inbuilt classes ya methods that help to count the number of bytes sent/received. I'm trying to develop a light weight browser and am doing this as an option. As mobile users are charged based on the bytes they browse. I think this is a mandatory requirement but the more I google it The less I find?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just got my desire afew days ago, i installed dolphin browser which i love but each time i visit a site i normally go on, it keeps on force closing down. its like a pop up that tells me internet explorer etc needs to close. now i have the update 2.1 which came with the phone but is their a way of fixing this issue? quite annoying.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had a Hero for a few weeks now, and while most things are great, I'm finding the internet connection very unreliable. For example, if I try to use the browser to view a website, often it says it can't find the page, even for www.google.com, and this is using a bookmark so I know it's a valid address. Often in the Market, it says it doesn't have a connection and to retry or cancel.
I am usually connected via wi-fi, either at home or at the office, so I know the wi-fi connection is good, and both have been tested thoroughly with my iPhone 3G. It's almost as if I have to wait for something to happen before I can use the net, but I make sure the wifi signal symbol appears before I try anything. Why could my data connection be so unstable?
Is there a way or an application that I can use to make it so that the phone won't log into the internet and use data accidentally. Essentially I just want to use Wifi and maybe mobile browser, but no 3g or whatever uses data.

I'm looking for some apps which can let me compress the data because my ISP provides unlimited 3G although the speed drops to 15kilobytes/s (not to be confused with kilobits) after 500MB of usage. Is it possible that i can compress the data usage with an app so that it takes longer for me to use 500MB.
Also i mostly listen to music videos on youtube as i'm driving around so are there any other alternative apps which allow me to listen to music but can run on a speed of 15kB/s?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android 4.0.3 XXLPQ.It's rooted and now has CM9 installed.Unfortunately for some bizarre reason I have no internet connection. I've installed a different modem and it hasn't fixed the issue. APN settings are correct (I've spoken to my network). Sometimes it works absolutely fine then after a few moments it just won't load anything and I get a 'No internet connection' warning. Apps won't work either due to no connection. However I do have a 'H' and sometimes '3G' next to the signal bars. WiFi is working fine. Have full signal.. I've started from scratch and wiped everything several times and re-flashed xxLPQ but still nothing.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an app in which there are several requests to a server in internet (http), for example to retrieve images in threads outside the main UI process. The thing is that I have a Thread that manage the request with a while(!end) loop and in the end a Thread.sleep(500) that checks if there are new unhandled requests. As I read here [1] I know that this is not a good practice. And users have complain about ANR (app not responding) in several cases.
Knowing that obviously I want to refactor all the way my app manage the requests and I want to do that the best way. So, the question is; what is the best approach for doing this? A service? a broadcast receiver and send intents when I need a request to be handled?
I am a new HTC Magic (Vodafone) user and have downloaded a number of useful Apps from the market. Since I work away from the UK (and have roaming disabled) and I have a Wi-Fi at home, I do not have a data pack included in my contract. However, I have found that a great App I downloaded - NetCounter - is reporting cell traffic that is going to end up costing me a lot of money.
So I have a few questions.
1) How do I switch between running applications, so I can see what's running?
2) How do I prevent certain Apps from starting whenever I power on the phone?
3) How do I see what Apps are connecting to the internet(ignoring the WiFi) and creating unwanted cell traffic.
4) Is there something I can disable so that I can use the phone normally, but prevent it from connecting to the internet unless I am back home and using the WiFi connection.
How could I create a ContentProvider where the data is fetch from the internet. As the data is parsed maybe allow the requesting client know the download progress and results so that they are displayed as it's downloaded. My idea is to share this data across other apps. I'm not sure if a ContentProvider would be the solution?
