HTC Desire :: Way To Debrand / Update Phone?
Aug 4, 2010
I have a desire from vf uk. it was one of the first ones with no real branding but does not qualify for the 2.2 update. luckily i havent updated to the new vf firmware. my question is, is there an easy way to unlock my handset so i can use htcs own 2.2 update? i no there are plenty of threads on this topic but they always assume people understand all the terms and it becomes confusing! i don't no my hboot from my bootloader or goldcard? it would be great if anyone could point me towards a guide written in plain easy to follow and explaind steps, m no novice to mobile tech but a programmer im not! i cant be the only one. so is there a way to make the phone update ota to htcs own 2.2 froyo?

I've read that you can't debrand if you got the OTA update from vodafone today. I got so close to putting an official stock ROM on my Desire (so I could push for the 2.2 update) only for it to fail. The ROM was: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed Then I read that because my phone had already been updated to this vodafone junk that I have lost the ability to rebrand. Is this true? Can't believe I was so close to getting FroYo. I could cry to Vodafone!

I upgraded to an HTC Desire from an iPhone 3G, and was so disappointed when I switched on my Orange phone to find they had hacked around with the Firmware!

I have an Orange HTC desire on Orange with Android 2.1. What I would like to do is debrand this phone to the stock HTC Android 2.2 release. HTC Desire 2.2. I am not really bothered about custom ROM's or rooting. I just want to have all the features that the phone should come with, minus the Orange mods.. Is this possible firstly? If it is which guide would you recommend? Can anyone comment on the risk vs reward of doing this? I am technical enough to follow the guide but would like to make sure what I want to achieve is possible..

I'm new to HTC Desire/Android, and debranding and altering my phones setup. A complete novice! I have unlocked my HTC desire from orange using a code from mobileunlocked.co.uk cost me 22.99 I have upgraded to 2.2 fro yo and am running software number 2.17.61.2 browser 3.1 I'd now like to debrand the phone but do not want to root as i am not into customising my phone that much. I do however want to rid it of the orange start up and the orange widgets and understand enough to know that i don't need/ want the orange excess stuff. I don't want to have to reboot and reflash my phone or find that wifi doesn't work with a custom Rom that might go wrong.

Ive recently bought a HTC Desire on orange contract and the phone appears to be debranded and unlocked. There is no evidence of orange applications in the menu and my other vodafone sim works with it too! Is there anyway to work out whether this has the generic HTC unbranded rom or not? And does that mean i will get the Froyo update when HTC release it?

I have an HTC Desire, locked to O2. Bootloader 8.0. Amoled screen (according to the box). I have rooted it using unrevoked3. I have created a gold card. I want to debrand the phone before updating to Froyo. I am currently on 2.1 update 1. I am worried that maybe I'm mixing and matching too much, and could somebody point me in the right direction to debrand the phone and then upgrade to Froyo.

So, with the news today that froyo is coming withing the next few weeks to unbranded phones I'm wondering what it takes to debrand my legend.
I have a Virgin(Bell) legend and I'm concerned that they won't update the phone since Bell has already dropped it and Virgin my follow suit!

I just received my HTC Desire. Even though Ive had it for less than a day, I've really fallen in love with it. And this is my first android phone, so I have a lot of questions to ask (I came off of Windows Mobile). I bought the phone unlocked and brand new from amazon: Amazon.com: HTC A8181 Desire Unlocked Quad-Band GSM Phone with Android OS, HTC Sense UI, 5 MP Camera, Wi-Fi and gps navigation--International Version with Warranty (Brown): Cell Phones & Accessories: Reviews, Prices & more I live in the United States and I am using AT&T. Does this mean I can just hit "update" when I see the notification to update? I don't plan on rooting any time soon as I don't want to risk doing something stupid in the process and bricking my phone.

I had an O2 branded Desire since the O2 release, but for some reason when It tried to update to the latest firmware it went completely corrupt, I tried to restore it but with no luck. Eventually rather than messing around I rang O2 and had them send me a new phone (business insurance made sure I got it next day, no questions asked). But since getting my new phone it wont find the update and is running the old OS.
I'm on:
Firmware 2.1-update1
Software 1.20.207.3
Iv tried searching for the update but it finds nothing, could it be because my SD card is from my previous phone?

I am having a problem with my Desire's GPS, I am running the official Orange 2.2 Update and ever since the update my Desire won't pick up my GPS location. It displays the GPS icon in the notification bar but whenever I use Maps or Navigation (Google) it constantly displays 'Searching for GPS'. This is my 2nd Desire as I lost my original, and I do not remember even trying the GPS before the update (due to it being so close to the update release), so I don't know if it is the update or a fault. I would like to know if anyone else has had an issue with this, I know Voda had a similar issue with their update, and how you fixed it. I have tried removing the battery, SIM and SD card but I haven't tried a factory reset yet. I am also wondering if there is a debranded ROM I can flash without rooting in which I could revert back to the original if I needed to send it back to HTC. I am pretty sure this device is SLCD as I can notice the difference from my original AMOLED model.

I have an issue with my desire, as alot of people have reported my battery life has taken a significant hit since the 2.2 update. Prior to the update i was getting about 2 days usage out of the phone, its now struggling to last a day at times and by that i mean about 8-10 hours. I think there is an application or process that is stopping my phone from sleeping and i was wondering if you could help identify and then fix it if possible? Also, one of the things i have noticed is that my applications have started updating automatically...prior to 2.2 update I would get notified but could chose whether or not to download them...is there any way i can revert the phone back to the original state?

The phone is the htc desire, it's unlocked but not unbranded from t-mobile and currently with o2. I got the OTA for 2.2 and didn't update it because the last time i updated it caused my wifi to fork up meaning my first two weeks of owning a desire meant waiting for it to come back from HTC repair.
Adding salt to the wound, it came back locked meaning I had to fork out another tenner to unlock again. So question! does anyone have experience of updating to 2.2 on an unlocked but branded phone (on Tmobile). Will it lock the phone again?

I got a notification today about the Froyo update being available (yay!) but was in the middle of something so hit cancel, thinking I could get it later. But I can't work out how to!
It did say that the phone would check again at the next scheduled time so I can download it then if need be - but does anyone know how to make the phone check before then?

After a recent trip away I have come back and the HTC clock widget does not update to the current location... it is stuck on 'United Kingdom' instead of my current location...
As a test I went for a drive today and whist 'Latitude' showed where I was, the google home page still showed the wrong location, and HTC widget still showed just 'United Kingdom'...
This has just got me stumped..

I have rooted my phone and currently running DeFroST 2.7 Rom Android version 2.2, (did this back in early august) I basically would like to know what the current latest update for my HTC Desire is. Is there a newer DeFroST update out there or do i now update to Froyo 2.2? Also would like a pointer in direction of where to download the latest update from?

I have the HTC Desire unlocked here in the US. I'm using AT&T as my network, and everything works fine. I do not want to root my phone. I want the upcoming Froyo 2.2 update, and I have seen that it is soon available for Vodafone. This confuses me. I am wondering -- will HTC release the new OS on their website, and I can just download and install it myself?
