Ive recently bought a HTC Desire on orange contract and the phone appears to be debranded and unlocked. There is no evidence of orange applications in the menu and my other vodafone sim works with it too! Is there anyway to work out whether this has the generic HTC unbranded rom or not? And does that mean i will get the Froyo update when HTC release it?

I have an Orange HTC desire on Orange with Android 2.1. What I would like to do is debrand this phone to the stock HTC Android 2.2 release. HTC Desire 2.2. I am not really bothered about custom ROM's or rooting. I just want to have all the features that the phone should come with, minus the Orange mods.. Is this possible firstly? If it is which guide would you recommend? Can anyone comment on the risk vs reward of doing this? I am technical enough to follow the guide but would like to make sure what I want to achieve is possible..

I get the impression they do, which is really very irritating. I don't suppose there's any way around it by ringing up and negotiating?

View 5 Replies View RelatedCan someone explain to me a few things please: If you unlock your phone with a code, does that mean you can put any sim into it? If so, does it re-lock onto the new network/sim that you put it? and if so, can you unlock it again with the same code or is it permanent?Secondly, I understand that if you debrand an Orange Desire, you can install a generic ROM, but if you do an OTA update, the phone screws up (loses wi-fi) as you have updated the radio version which is incompatible with Orange and you then have to Unlock the phone to make it work again. Does this work permanently?Also, in relation to this, if you apply an unlock code first, can you then use the OTA update from HTC and not have your phone screw up? As it is no longer an "Orange" handset, or is the phone always hard coded to Orange in some way?

View 49 Replies View RelatedI have a desire from vf uk. it was one of the first ones with no real branding but does not qualify for the 2.2 update. luckily i havent updated to the new vf firmware. my question is, is there an easy way to unlock my handset so i can use htcs own 2.2 update? i no there are plenty of threads on this topic but they always assume people understand all the terms and it becomes confusing! i don't no my hboot from my bootloader or goldcard? it would be great if anyone could point me towards a guide written in plain easy to follow and explaind steps, m no novice to mobile tech but a programmer im not! i cant be the only one. so is there a way to make the phone update ota to htcs own 2.2 froyo?

I have unlocked my HTC desire from orange using a code from mobileunlocked.co.uk cost me �22.99 I have upgraded to 2.2 fro yo and am running software number 2.17.61.2 browser 3.1 I'd now like to debrand the phone but do not want to root as i am not into customising my phone that much. I do however want to rid it of the orange start up and the orange widgets and understand enough to know that i don't need/ want the orange excess stuff. I don't want to have to reboot and reflash my phone or find that wifi doesn't work with a custom Rom that might go wrong.

I want to debrand the phone before updating to Froyo. I am currently on 2.1 update 1. I am worried that maybe I'm mixing and matching too much, and could somebody point me in the right direction to debrand the phone and then upgrade to Froyo.
I've read that you can't debrand if you got the OTA update from vodafone today. I got so close to putting an official stock ROM on my Desire (so I could push for the 2.2 update) only for it to fail. The ROM was: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed Then I read that because my phone had already been updated to this vodafone junk that I have lost the ability to rebrand. Is this true? Can't believe I was so close to getting FroYo. I could cry to Vodafone!

So that my device is as HTC intended.Why do i have to use some developers rom that has been messed with? Surely thats as bad as having a version that orange have butchered?Please advise.

I'm currently waiting for the Desire to come out on O2, but am still not sure whether this is the best thing to do, or whether I should just get it SIM free and get an O2 Simplicity SIM (I want O2 because of the data allowance and because I know the coverage is good here, unlike other networks).My issues are, if I get it on O2 will it be ruined by them, covered in O2 stuff inside and out. But, if I get it SIM free, will it be difficult to set up when I put the SIM in, for messaging/internet access/whatever. I'm not that techie minded so if it's complicated to set all this up on a SIM free phone I might struggle.

Is this a good deal? I know that T-Mobile has recently changed its contract to say its 3GB FUP is only for its direct customers but if I got this contract and phoned them up and said I have an android what are the chances I could talk them into putting me on the 3GB FUP instead of the 1GB? and finally if the above is a no then is there any speed difference between those on the 1GB UP and those on the 3GB FUP? View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of debranding my Orange-locked Desrie using Unrevoked3 as it's supposed to be a doddle. I've downloaded the programmer, but before I attach my phone ot my computer and press go, I have four questions:
1. Do I need to unlock my phone first?
2. Do I need a goldcard?
3. Does Unprovoked provide a ROM or do I have to install that myself separately?
4. What does this actually do? Root? Debrand? What?
Before 2.2 update I could unlock the phone using the menu button but this option seem to have disappeared since the update on tmobile anyone found out if you can still do this.
