I'm looking at buying an unlocked Hero from mobile phones direct.co.uk, whenever they start selling them. I'm only hesitant about what if any support I'd lose from not buying directly from a carrier. How do Android OTA updates work on unlocked phones? Also, can anyone speculate yet how HTC is going to be handling its updates? Will it push through the carriers? If I buy unlocked and get a contract through Voda phone (who is not officially carrying the phone) will I be the last one on the block to get my updates? Or will I need to root my phone and install them all myself?

When the 2.1 Android update is released, will I receive a pop-up message on my phone like people whose phones are under contract from Orange, etc? Secondly, the main reason I'd like this update is Google Navigation. I read somewhere this wont be available in the UK.

I went to 2.1 and then found out that it was still rooted so my brother and I unrooted again down to stock 2.0.1. Now my phone will not receive the OTA so I can upgrade to stock 2.1. Does anyone know why it won't receive the update?

View 10 Replies View RelatedAfter reading that 2.1 is "supposed" to drop this week, I have a rooted droid running Beast 7.4 which has the OTA disabled. Is there a way to get the phone back to being able to receive the update without wiping all my text/e-mail/call logs/pics? I'm guessing it would require moving to a different ROM or just back to the original 2.0.1 update...but I'm not clear how to do it. If anyone can post a link or explain it in non-Linux lingo, I would greatly appreciate it! I just don't want to have to revert back to the original 2.0.1 and lose everything...don't care about the apps because I can just re-install those.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've set up Hotmail to be the default email account and has always seemed to work fine (although the sync doesn't always work - when read on the phone, then deleted on a computer, this is not reflected on phone, if that makes sense). However, recently have been having problems receiving emails. I've tried entering the password again; even tried deleting the account and re-setting it up. The former doesn't make any difference. The latter seems to work the first time (with every email coming up unread), but subsequently fails to refresh with new emails.

Not everything stops working. I'm still able to use some functionality but for some reason some calls to rest return "" (empty response) very quickly. Once again when I'm on WiFi everything works fine.

The Desire I obtained from the local 3 Store came in a standard HTC Desire box with no special marking and just the standard HTC quick start guide. I just had a thought that it might be unlocked so I tried Orange, Vodafone and O2 PAYG SIMs. All seem to work giving me phone service but not data. The box is marked HTC Desire A8181. Am I correct in thnking it is unlocked?

The uri.toString() is then passed as an extra to a subsequent Activity that displays the image. All fine, except for in Android 1.6 the jpgs on the sdcard have a strange noise when looking at them through mac finder or win explorer after mounting the sdcard. The images have purple and yellow stripes on their upper half. Fine on camera gallery.

The phone is the htc desire, it's unlocked but not unbranded from t-mobile and currently with o2. I got the OTA for 2.2 and didn't update it because the last time I updated it caused my WiFi to fork up meaning my first two weeks of owning a desire meant waiting for it to come back from HTC repair. Adding salt to the wound, it came back locked meaning I had to fork out another tenner to unlock again. so question! does anyone have experience of updating to 2.2 on an unlocked but branded phone (on t mobile). Will it lock the phone again?

I have unlocked my HTC desire from orange using a code from mobileunlocked.co.uk cost me �22.99 I have upgraded to 2.2 fro yo and am running software number 2.17.61.2 browser 3.1 I'd now like to debrand the phone but do not want to root as i am not into customising my phone that much. I do however want to rid it of the orange start up and the orange widgets and understand enough to know that i don't need/ want the orange excess stuff. I don't want to have to reboot and reflash my phone or find that wifi doesn't work with a custom Rom that might go wrong.

I wish to give it for warranty claim and i guess they wouldnt accept the phone with custom OS as there is no official udpate for Airtel India HTC Heros.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used my phone with no problem yesterday (made and received calls), then went to sleep and charged my phone overnight. When I woke up this morning, I tried to make a call and just got "this number is not in use", thought it was something to do with that persons number. Tried to call some other numbers and always got the same thing. I asked my brother to call me and it just went straight to voicemail. Then, when I opened "Phone" I noticed that there was something wrong with my last few calls made. Phone numbers here in Iceland are 7 letters, for example 1234567.. but all the recent calls I made looked like 6171234567, that 617 always got added before the number I tried to call and that made it fail. I only see 1234567 when trying to make the call, when I look at the phone while listening to "This number is not in use", I never see that 617 until I've hung up and check the call log. I did try to call +3541234567 though (354 being the Icelandic country code) and that went through fine. But if I don't use it, the 617 gets added. Has anyone ever experienced this problem? I thought it might be some setting so automatically add a country/area code before a number or something like that, but didn't find anything in settings.
