HTC Desire ::Unable To Download Applications - Built In Memory?
Aug 11, 2010
1:I am downloading apps from the market and I have bought one. Now for last 24 hours it has been trying to download these and just wont. The one i bought still says authorizing purchase. Now why is this? I still have about 11MB of storage on the phone. 2:Why is there not more in built memory especially if the makers knew ALL applications and games would be installed to the phone? isn't it obvious that should have allowed support to install directly to SD card (like with me old nokia E51?) 3:When is this new Android update coming to the Desire, how do you go about getting it?

Just got my HTC Desire today! Trying to download apps via the android market. Selected the app, and it tells me it will be downloaded. I go to the download section and the app says starting downloading and just stays at that. I have canceled and started again but no joy. Connected via Wireless connection and also tried mobile internet.

I don't know what to do. I have tried clearing the cache of the market, and the apps that are affected with updating. I can't use a backup utility, because well, if I try to restore anytime recently, the same issue exists. I am completely confused as to what made this happen and how to fix it. I would rather not wipe the phone to factory defaults.

I am getting a Desire next week. How many apps you can install on the internal memory without 'rooting' it? I'll probably install a lot of apps when I get mine next wednesday (I already have made a list of over 30!) and I would really like to avoid rooting it as it will probably void the warranty and I am not sure I could do it anyway - even after reading the step by step guide a few times over. How many apps have you all managed to fit in before getting the memory low message that some have reported?

The HTC Desire has limited memory of around 570Mb RAM and 512Mb ROM. The MicroSD card can hold up to 32Gb. So, why can't HTC allow apps be stored in MicroSD card? If HTC/Google's concerned about piracy issues, i.e. copies of apps from microSD card to another microSD card, etc. There is one way round to this problem: They could have installed some kind of unique crypto-key within the Desire's ROM, and any apps saved to the microSD card are automatically encrypted on-the-fly with this crypto-key.
When apps are accessed, it is decrypted on-the-fly, too. In other words, apps will ONLY work with THAT phone it shares the SAME crypto-key. Putting a microSD card containing apps into another Android phone will not work, thus solving the piracy issue. Therefore, a message to HTC: Please allow apps to microSD card (as much as 32Gb card) and BEAT iPhone/Nokia N900 at their game!

Does all apps etc get saved by default to the phone memory or the SD card?? Also, when I plug in via the USB cable and want to transfer some videos and photos across from my old phone, are they saved to the SD card? Is there any way of checking what is saved to where?

I seem to be having an issue with apps on my phone. Basically, over the past few days, I cant update apps from the marketplace at all. The market comes up tellling me there are new updates, when I go to download and install them, they all download fine, and then start installing, and then all of a sudden, it tells me installation was unsuccessful and nothing happens anymore. Its doing this for all apps I try to download from the market. Help would be much appreciated. Btw, I've got my phone set to install apps to mem card as default using the force apps to sd work around thing that was posted on the board.

I got the Desire on contract upgrade and have just booted it up.
It appears that it only wants to download some applications with most kicking back a "Download Unsuccessful" including some that I have purchased before.
I am running 2.1 -update 1 right out of the box software number 1.19.161.5
I've tried a factory reset with still no avail.
I'm trying to download it using my wireless router which I'm sitting right beside so signal is no problem.

About a week ago my phone inexplicably stopped being able to download from the Market. No reason is given, the thing just stalls at the 'starting download' screen. Today, nearly a week later it's finally given me a clue what the problem might be. A notification icon appeared, claiming that I'm low on internal storage. I clicked on the message thinking that it would take me to something useful like a file manager, but no such luck. It took me to the application manager to, I assume, remove some apps. I've got nothing to remove. The only two extra apps I'm running right now are 3G watchdog, Twitter, and Kindle.
As far as I know not much is being stored internally, but is there anyway I can find out what is being stored - I can't find a file manager anywhere. The only thing I can think of is messages might be clogging the thing up (text and mail) I have a mail widget running but it only picks up 1 day's mail at a time - are the messages stored on my phone or are they simply viewed on the server. I also have a few hundred text messages stored, but I can't imagine they would take up that much space?

I want to buy the HTC Desire or the Samsung Galaxy S. At the moment I prefer the HTC Desire. It's smaller, feels better and has flash which the Samsung lacks. But when I read the fact that the HTC Desire is very limited in internal memory for installing apps and the fact that you can't transfer a lot of apps to your sd card with the help of the froyo 2.2 update got me thinking again about which phone I should pick. I don't want to buy the phone and later regret that I don't have enough space for apps. That's not the only thing that is bothering me. So I want to ask a few questions.
1: What is the average number of apps you can install on the internal memory (so without SD card) of the HTC Desire if you installed update 2.2?
2: Let's say I use internet 2 hours a day, watch movies, listen to music 2 hours a day and also call people 1 hour and send a few text messages. If I do this everyday will I have to charge my battery everyday or will it last longer?
3: Can you install apple apps on HTC desire?
4: What is the average size of an application?

Is there a way to force particular applications to use the built in 8GB of phone storage? For example, doubletwist automatically syncs to the SD card, ROM Manager saves backups to the SD Card, etc.I find that I have used basically none of my internal memory because nothing recognizes its there in the first place. Is there a custom ROM that allows this? I know it is supposed to be a feature of Froyo, but it seems kind of silly that it doesn't already work or that there wouldn't be a root method to make it work.

I have done many of reverse engineering for other electronics in the past, Since Im new to android I was wondering before even wasting my time if is possible to port, or built a rom from sources or a phone thatis NOT External SD built in to a phone that it have the external sd built in.
Making it short can I try to reverse engineer the android code from a Nexus 5 (no ext_sd) to other device that have ext_sd built in?
If is possible where should I be looking to start trying making some development on this as I haven't done nothing close quite.

Not had my desire long but down loaded a few apps for it they all seem to be stored on phone memory not the sd card. what is stored to the sd card seems to be unused so far. do you have to set it up to use sd card or does it know one is fitted. does it switch to sd card when phone memory full. will run out of space soon if can't get things to store to card instead of phone mem.

Quick and rather random question, do you know whether the HTC Desire has the equipment built in to record in 720p? I heard a rumour that an HTC update will enable the Desire to record and playback in Hi Def. Anyone else heard this?

I recently bought the remote for ituens app. The problem I have is, I cannot link my desire with my imac to use it as a remote. I have paired them via bluetooth but cannot connect them via wifi. I don't use a wireless router to connect to the internet because of security issues. Surely as the HTC is a wifi enable device and the imac is a wifi enabled device they should be able to talk to eachother without a third party router in between them.

Running Apps to SD.
I'm running AppsToSD with this procedure:
http://www.coolpstutsite.com/Other_Tutorials.html
With a 8 gb class 4 card. I created a 500 mb EX2 partition. Using AppsToSD, I moved all applications, but not the cache, as I have been advised that the class 4 sd could have slowdown issues moving the cache as well. I have about 45 apps on the phone. The available internal memory is sitting at 16 mb available. Does this sound about right? It seems low to me.

I have been trying moving applications to SD card but failed when I go to terminal and use CP command. Is anyone done applications to SD card and if yes how can somebody share some details please. A to Z. My hero is already root, just running out of space on my internal memory. Its sad that HTC don't allow to put applications on SD. Love to have an option to ask where do you want to install the apps?

It has be reported that Apps cannot be saved in the 8gb internal memory but in the 512mb rom. Is that a problem for anybody? Reviews from Infosyncvideos and the androidcommunity stated the problem. I dunno how big apps are but it shouldn't be a big problem.
