HTC Incredible :: Way To Force Particular Applications To Use Built In 8GB Of Phone Storage?
Jul 7, 2010
Is there a way to force particular applications to use the built in 8GB of phone storage? For example, doubletwist automatically syncs to the SD card, ROM Manager saves backups to the SD Card, etc.I find that I have used basically none of my internal memory because nothing recognizes its there in the first place. Is there a custom ROM that allows this? I know it is supposed to be a feature of Froyo, but it seems kind of silly that it doesn't already work or that there wouldn't be a root method to make it work.

I heard, over on the Nexus forum, that the internal 8 gig storage has nothing to do with installing apps, it's just more like a memory card you can't take out. You know just some app data and pics/vids and music not the app itself. I thought the 8 gig storage was for apps.

Is there no built in storage? Is everything on the 8gig card? I wish I could see what is on the card. Rooting....does this allow the phone to perform like stock, but allow me to do the wi-fi hot spot for free? I have also heard that I can tether via USB, not sure how to do this. I have the killer app killer but other than that, the apps are entertainment.

For some reason my Incredible won't mount both the internal phone storage and the SD card storage at the same time. What I mean is...when I plug my phone into my PC I only get a single popup asking to mount the phone's SD card storage, but not the internal phone storage. If I remove the SD card (or unmount the SD card using menus on the phone) and then toggle the connection type from Disk Drive, to Charge only, and then back to Disk Drive (to burp the connection), the internal phone storage will mount, but the SD card won't mount because it has been removed. When I connect my wife's incredible, my computer sees both the SD card storage and the internal storage (as expected) and gives me prompts for both. I took the SD card from the problematic phone and put it in the "good" phone and there are no issues at all (IE.. both the internal storage and SD storage mount). This of course means there is no issue with the SD card.

So if I do a Factory Reset on the phone it still has some of the old photos/videos I took, which leads me to believe it doesn't fully clear the device of everything, just the settings that I changed are returned to their factory defaults (duh!).I was curious if I do the Clear Storage option, which means turning off the device and holding one of the volume toggles while holding the power button - would that mean that the entire Android OS would be removed, or does it mean it does a format of the phones entire partition and re-installs Android (similar to a reformat/recovery partition on a computer)? In which case I would need to reactivate the phone doing the simple *228.

I can only compare to an Ipod Touch, so hopefully you guys can explain the storage and apps thing to me. Right now I own an Ipod Touch 64GB. I have 1.5 GB of apps installed on it. Based on research for the EVO it looks like max capacity is going to be 32 GB. Not a problem there, but when it comes to apps are they stored on the phone itself? (Installed RAM is only 1 GB) or are apps stored on your memory card? Are these cards swappable or are you limited to whats space is available on it? Hope this is not a bad comparison.

My problem is that when I install any app from google play, it installs on internal storage. If I want to move it to sd card, the only option available is move to phone storage. I have selected SD Card as default write disk.

Recently I just did the force apps to SD on my desire (froyo). However, I realize that after the force apps to SD, my desire speed slow down and lags. For example it take a few secs to open an apps while previously it was rather quick. And also, the handcent SMS take rather long to open.

1:I am downloading apps from the market and I have bought one. Now for last 24 hours it has been trying to download these and just wont. The one i bought still says authorizing purchase. Now why is this? I still have about 11MB of storage on the phone. 2:Why is there not more in built memory especially if the makers knew ALL applications and games would be installed to the phone? isn't it obvious that should have allowed support to install directly to SD card (like with me old nokia E51?) 3:When is this new Android update coming to the Desire, how do you go about getting it?

WTF, I'm getting a warning that I'm low on space, phone storage is getting low. However, according to the SD card & Phone Storage info I can pull up on my phone, I'm only using the following:
SD card
Total space: 3.69 GB
Available space: 2.67 GB
Internal Phone Storage
Total Space 6.60 GB
Available space: 6.06 GB
Phone memory
Total space: 748 MB
Available space: 636 MB
So all in all to me it looks like I should have plenty of space.

So, one of the selling points of this phone is the large amount of internal storage. any ROMs out there that actually recognize my large amount of internal storage?? I would rather have 512MB like a droid and get a 16GB card with it honestly. If stock froyo wasn't slow as hell I would just use that but alas, I need my speed.

So my wife asked me today about a warning she got on her info bar. It said "Phone storage low" and when you press it it brings you to "Manage applications" On her Contacts Storage it was taking 89mb. Does this mean she's not linked up to google? Mine is only like 12mb and i have WAY more contacts then she does. Can anyone shed some light on this? it gives the option to Clear Contact Data but my wife would lose her mind (as we all would) if we lost all of our contacts.

I have an app that accesses music and I had at least one user complain that some of his songs are on internal storage and that causes a force close. My question is do I have to do 2 calls for each song now or can I make a query that will look at both the internal and external memory?

I have a generic LY-F1 Allwinner tablet which was working fine until a week ago. Now, however, it won't boot past the glowing Android screen. I've left it for five or six hours with no progress, so I guess the ROM is corrupted. Is there any other way to fix this other than flashing a new ROM?
However, the main problem with this tablet is that it does not automatically enter mass storage mode when plugged into a laptop, so I have no way to rescue my content. I can see the drives in Windows (one for the internal SD, one for the SD slot) but they are not usable (they result in an 'insert media' message)
Is there a way to force mass storage mode so that I can remove my data in preparation to reflash it? I'm sure I read of a command line method to get into the internal SD card? Or was I imagining it?

I keep getting the little notification that my phone storage space is getting low, but when I go into Settings > SD card & phone storage, the SD card, internal phone storage, and phone memory are all well above critical levels (they're all like 70-90% free space). What could be the issue?

I have an Incredible. It has 8GB of internal storage and I've installed an 8GB microSD card. When I plug the thing in via USB, I have two drives that appear on Windows. One shows total capacity of 6.59GB and the other is 7.39GB. I guess my question is: I think I understand that the 7.39GB one is the microSD card. It's getting full. It appears that everything gets stored there. My question is, why do I have a 6.59GB drive available that never seems to get used? Is the purpose to manually put MP3s and such on this instead of the microSD card? With 2.2 (SkyRaider ROM), can I move apps to this internal storage?

I rooted my Incredible a few days ago for the first time and installed Cyanogen mod. Everything is going well, but I do have one question. When I connect my phone to my pc, my sd card comes up but phone storage doesn't. When I click on the phone storage, it asks me to format the drive to be able to use it. If I do format, what will happen? How can I fix this?

I am rooted, s off, 2.15 radio, running Froyo from Incredible_Froyo_3.21.605.1_rooted_unmodified_sign ed.zip. Everything is running fine. I can access the SD card and the phone storage without any errors. However, I have a constant notification that reads "preparing phone storage.....checking for errors....." I took out the SD card before booting, and I still have the error message. Therefore, it is not the SD card. I have searched around and cannot find a way to get rid of the message.

I'm having the same issue as listed below from a post on Android Central. Thought I'd check here to see if anyone has had this as well. I've edited the post to reflect my issues. Link to original thread: HTC Mail Memory Leak/Bug ("Phone Storage Getting Low") - Android Central Forums. "I have reason to believe that HTC Mail has a significant memory leak or bug which is causing all of the "Phone storage is getting low" messages. I've had the phone for 3 weeks as of this Thursday. My setup is 2 POP3 email accounts configured during the initial setup in HTC Mail. At around 110-115 megs it triggers the "phone storage low" message. The problem is that as far as I can tell, there's no way to reduce the file size of this HTC mail app once this process has started.
I've deleted every shred of email, all In-boxes, all sent, all trash all everything from every mail folder for every account - no reduction in app size. I trashed every shred of email from the system and the HTC mail app still hovered around 110megs (and the phone storage low indicators continuing). After researching the issue online and piecing 2+2 together I realized that the only solution is to wipe the phone. The issue there is that there are no guarantees that the issue wouldn't resurface again (actually it's quite likely).
Bottom line: HTC mail seems to have a very significant memory leak or bug that causes it to blow through its allocated memory at an alarming pace and there is very little that can be done to stop it once it's started. I would strongly recommend to those of you with the above issues to not use HTC mail after wiping the phone".

I connected the Incredible to my mac and did not touch the internal storage; I just created a folder on the SD card to move a ringtone over from my laptop. Now, when I load up the camera, I get a message: Phone storage is full or unavailable. Storage has been switched to SD card.
UPDATE: I just shut it down. After rebooting, it was able to read the internal phone storage. Not sure why it did that.

I updated to Froyo the other morning and now all my photos and videos are gone. When I tap into Gallery it still says I have 163 photos but only my 3 newest pics after I updated show up. My internal phone storage is currently read-only which I never noticed before. I did a test and restarted the phone and quickly went to the gallery before everything booted up. I saw all my photos but when the phone storage prepared itself it went to read-only and they all disappeared. Should I do a factory reset? I'm new to Android so I'm not a pro at this yet. I know now I should have backed up my stuff.
