I need to put all my contacts from my phone onto my GMail, but for some reason, I can't find a way to do it easily. I was thinking that all my contacts would sync accross the phone, but this doesn't seem to happen. I have a HTC desire, and have used HTC sync to try and update all my Outlook contact with my Phone contact, but they don't seem to come across. So how can I do this...

This is one of the few major complaints I have with our phone. When I want to send my vCard (or any contact card) I can only choose from Bluetooth, MMS (costs money) or the "HTC" Mail apps. Since I use a Gmail account I don't have any other mail clients configured. Am I doing something wrong? Have I missed some setting that will allow me to send a contact card via Gmail?

I'm a n00b so I wanted to ask some questions about this and how much it can help the battery, and also if it's worth actually leaving as it is. If you can shed any light on the queries below I'd greatly appreciate it
1. When I set up my phone I added people as Google contacts rather than Sim contacts but wasn't really sure of the difference and what it would mean. Is it just a case of the phone finding those people on your Gmail account if you select to add as a Google contact or is there more to it?
2. How frequent are syncs with Google contacts and calendars and what exactly is synced between my phone and my Google account? Is it actually battery intensive or does it make very little difference?
3. I set up a Google Calendar a long time ago and subscribed to my girlfriend's calendar, but have deleted mine and unsubscribed to hers today as I just don't use it. Does this mean nothing is then synced with the phone as nothing exists?
I'm trying to get my head around exactly how my Google account links with my phone and how it affects the phone.
I see contacts on my Gmail desktop Even after syncing, there are contacts on the desktop I do NOT see on the EVO. I thought this process is automatic when menu>settings>Accounts&sync>Sync all.

If this is already covered - I couldn't find it, so please point me in the right direction.
I have my G1 sync'ing with my gmail for contacts (obviously), and a large number of my gmail contacts have pictures associated with them.
This all works fine for a while, and then... consistently... after a few days... the pictures on my contacts get messed up. They kinda swap around, and some of them seem to use random pictures which have been linked to contacts in the past, or perhaps even not at all.
I do not know whether this is getting messed up on my G1, and replicated to gmail, or the other way around, but I can't stop it happening and its massively annoying.
Any other information can be provided, but if anyone else has this problem or knows how I might fix it, it would probably save my sanity greatly.
I cannot figure out how to send an e-mail to an entire groups as with the web interface.For example, if I have a group called "Group 1" that has 10 Contacts in it, I want to type "Group 1" in the "To:" field and e-mail all 10 contacts.

Now: as of 3 days ago, my Evo decided it no longer wants to sync my mobile phone numbers from gmail contacts over to my phone. Its only syncing some numbers from select random people, but mostly, it only synchronizes email addresses, nothing else. Yet again, the full contact info (no special, only standard fields, home phone, mobile, fax, work) is showing in gmail contacts, but not importing anything but email address only to the phone. Anyone figured out how to fix this? Is it a mapping issue (although i don't see how to map anything).

View 3 Replies View RelatedSet up my Incredible yesterday.Everythings working well except one weird issue.It appears that it pooled ALL of the contacts exchange contacts, Facebook phone numbers/emails, and every single gmail address I've ever emailed before.When I compose a new text, and select the little person icon to find who to send it to, it brings up a list of at least 3,000 contacts.Everything from unsubscribe email addresses to craigslist to 5 different phone numbers listed for someone off Facebook.Is there anyway to prevent this or remove it? In "People" it's correct, only shows the contacts from my Exchange server and everything looks good. But going to compose a new text (or typing a new gmail email) it brings up EVERYTHING.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm sure I'm overlooking something simple. At some point I had an option to save new contacts as a phone contact or a gmail contact. But I've lost that option. Now whenever I enter a new number in my phone I have to manually enter it into my gmail account as well. (Lets not even get into the pain in the butt Google Apps account which will NOT sync my contacts from my personal domain) What am I missing here? I've already lost one gals number that I really wanted to call when I did a factory reset and forgot to manually put it in gmail.

I looked up the instructions in Gmail Help and they refer to a picture section in Contacts. The problem is I do not see any reference to pictures in either new or existing contacts or edits. Am I missing something or do I have a old version of Gmail if there is such a thing?

I just flashed xtrROm...and have the following issues:
1. Some random contacts from my gmail account do NOT synch to the phone. No rhyme or reason - just a handfull of contacts are NOT on the phone. I can't make a connection to "Groups", with/without an e-mail or phone#, etc. It just seems completely random.
2. Battery life is horriible. I'm talking about draining to nothing in a few hours (This is a separate issue I will look into). Regarding gmail contacts, it seems that it is constantly doing a Contact Sync - and DOES NOT STOP.
So I have several of my own pictures that I have assigned to my GMail Contacts (I assigned them on the web, and they synced to my Droid X automatically). Recently, I noticed when I get emails to my GMail account from these contacts on my Droid X (using the default Droid X GMail app) their contact picture is not displaying in the email. Some of these people (but not all) even have their own Google account that they have assigned their own picture to, and even that isn't displaying. All that displays next to their Name/Email address is the default, gray Android robot - NOT their Contact picture. Unrelated, I've also noticed that on some of my emails in the GMail app, instead of showing "John Smith" as the sender, it displays their email address (JohnSmith99@aol.com). And I have this email address listed in their Contact information on my Droid X - why does it not display their name as I have it in my Droid X Contact list? I can understand if the email address is not anywhere in my Contacts, but it is. It makes little sense and is extremely frustrating.

View 3 Replies View Relatedso i have gone thru everything i can find on this forum but i am at my wits end. i have been able to get my outlook contacts into my gmail account (the csv import worked reasonably well). what i don't understand is that i can view a contact in gmail and see phone numbers, address, email, etc. when i view on the G1 all i get is their email. what am i doing wrong? yes, i have gone in the "display groups" settings and tried all options. anybody else having this problem? BTW, so far i like the functionality of the starcontacts application.

For some reason, whenever I send out an email to someone that's not in my contact list, it appears as a new contact under the people app, with the email address listed. I don't want it to automatically add these emails to my contacts. Is there a way I can stop this, besides un-syncing my Gmail account?

I now saved everything to google contacts, and even after saving some in various groups, I cannot get the groups to sync over to the vibrant. All of the contacts synced perfectly, but not the groups. I even tried making new groups using different names than the generic google group names. If I display contacts from both the phones memory and google contacts, then it will show me the groups I've selected.

Everything seemed smooth about it until I walked into a store a couple of weeks ago and started playing with an Expire X10 which was set up for testing...Since one of my major points of interest (actually THE major point of interest) in a phone is PIM and contacts I tried adding a new contact and I was very surprised to see that the phone was asking me to enter my Gmail ID (or something like that...)Now, I don't have a Gmail account and neither am I planning to start one since I'm happy with my private email service; is it just outright impossible to get my contact list working without a gmail account? Or can something be done to use off-the-cloud contacts like a regular phone? The same goes also for the calendar app: can I use it offline without linking it to a google account? I understand that keeping my phone offline and off-the-cloud will make it a crippled phone, but I just can't afford any data plan. Does the majority of apps require a gmail account to work? If not, which ones do? And finally, am I gonna be able to read my emails on my phone even though I don't have a Gmail account?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI realize that the Incredible will bring in your Gmail contacts during phone setup so I have all of them currently organized in Gmail as Last Name First Name in the single Name field as Gmail currently doesn't have two separate fields for first and last name. Does the phone itself have fields for first and last name and if so does it make more sense to reorganize my Gmail contacts so the phone can recognize what is the first name and what is the last name?

I have lost contact information twice (once going to Galaxy, and again when coming back to TW for the update). I have Exchange email configured as well, but none of my contacts reside in that "addressbook" as far as I can tell everything should be being saved back to Google. I have contacts that exist on in Google (verified from my computer) that I updated phone numbers for that disappeared after I did a factory wipe. My sync settings are all checked and from everything I can tell I should be syncing continuously. Clearly I must be missing something, but I have no idea what it is. That "data in the cloud" safety net has not worked for me twice and I'd like not to get burned again.
View 1 Replies View Relatedcould not locate an important phone number which I personally entered on her Gmail contacts on her desktop. I checked her 4G contacts (view contacts boxes are all checked) and that specific contact is still missing while showing up on her desktop contacts. Out of curiousity, we checked both of our phones. Just from A-C alone, she is missing 23 contacts and I am missing 41 contacts. The contacts are there on our desktop contacts, but not on the 4G. I feel guilty since I was the one who talked her into changing from Blackberry. Her Head Nurse warned that she will have no tolerance for screw ups due to android phones. Apparently, she has same issues before with one of her RNs.

If I want to send an email to "Jonathon Blackburn" i start typing "jonat" and a list of emails comes up like: Jonathon Blackburn <jonblack@ Jonathon Blackburn <jonathon@ But the rest of the contact info is cut off, so I do not know which email I am selecting and whether it is office of home, etc. Is there a way to change the font/setting so that it includes the entire email address and whether it is a work or home address?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI think this is a common situation. A family has one calendar that shoould be shared to all members of the family and visible on all phones. Then their email should be able to be kept separate. I have figured out how to do the contacts. I have all of them at the main family gmail account and each person can create their own group and associate their contacts.
The problems with contacts is that I can set my contact list to default to - Phil's Contacts nor can I set the search to limit the resutls to my contacts even though I have gone into People and selected my group.
And even though I have gone into /menu/settings/accounts and synch and set the exchange active to point to the family calendar, contacts and email and the google option to point to gmail only I still get contacts coming thru from the google account.
Perhaps their is a better app out there or I have it configured wrong.
What I want to do is only sync the contacts, calendar and mail from the "Family" account. And then keep my google mail set to my personal account.
